God I saw this tour when they played Rutgers College in NJ. There was a few thousand people there and the Replacements kicked ass that night. So glad i had a chance to see them live.
I remember watching this when it first aired- I had it recorded as well... We'd always play the beginning when Kendall says "stomp" and they both laugh and Paul repeats it... So good... 😂
I don’t think it’s underrated. It might be a little overrated. It’s a great album, just a less gritty sound than their previous albums which I personally liked more.
They are like alternate-universe version of the Sex Pistols. Destroy everything but because they are from the midwest, can't help but be polite and genuine in interview.
Watching this interview after watching some of the early-mid '80s interviews, it's like looking at a completely different band. They really grew up a lot in 7-8 years.
I saw them at a place in Iowa that tour. They were selling t-shirts that read “Welcome funeral directors” .. I wore it for years. Awful crowd. Someone threw a bottle at slim - they quit early.
By this point, The ‘Mats had grown up and most of the original members were gone: Chris Mars left and became a painter, Bob Stinson died some years before this. What’s sad is that they finally reached some clarity, but it came at a cost. Some will say this was when The ‘Mats were more mature, I’d argue they were more laid back by this point, Paul Westerberg’s songwriting was always mature, though no one was really listening.
Dave Kendall used to hang out at the bar Exit in Chicago. One night we took him back to the place he was staying. During the ride he took off his shoes and threw up in his sock. A couple of days later he called my girlfriend and asked if he could get his sock back. It was hilarious.
Funny story. My girlfriend Glory had a girlfriend named Lisa in the late 80s. We all hung out at this punk club at the time on Wells in Chicago named Exit. Lisa was kind of dating Dave Kendall whenever he was drunk out of his mind in Exit. It was okay, so was everybody and me. One night he got really drunk and threw up in Glory's little Le Car and took his shoe and sock off and threw up in his sock and wiped his face with his sock. It was par for the course back then, nobody thought a thing about it. We dropped Dave and Lisa off. The funny thing is that a couple of weekends later when Dave was back in town from New York he asked Glori, do you have my sock? So Effing funny I will never forget it
This isn't normal band member vibe. This is older brother younger brother gang stuff. There's a natural pecking order and it's them against the world. It's tight.
I maintain that The Replacements were the worst managed band in the history of Rock music. The sheer talent of this band was astonishing. What a wasted opportunity.
My right ear loved this interview.
Crying!
🤣🤣🤣
It's twin brother feels "left" out...

Do you remember who opened? Goo Goo Dolls? Paw? Connells?
@@chrismccord1841 i was late as usual and missed the opening act. It was a fantastic show though seemed halfway sober. Songs were really tight
I saw them twice on this tour. The Goo Goo Dolls opened at the 1st (Cincinnati), the Cavedogs opened at the 2nd (Louisville).
I love these boys SO MUCH.

Me too. I recorded it on VHS and must have watched this 1000 times. STOMP lol. We would laugh at that too.
Reminds me of the final days of Big Star. Down to Alex Chilton and Jody Stephens for original members.
Yeah never thought of that...wowzer similar
That last record All Shook Down is underrated. They are likeable guys and an amazing band.

Fuckin' legends these two.
I never saw this vid before! Thanks for sharing!!!
pure right ear relaxation
Sad to watch this as in it was obvious it was over at this point

never really started to be honest
“To tell him what to do...is spooky”
-Paul Westerberg, on John Cale

Not really, Bob passed away 3 1/2 years later during this interview.
@@philliplandry4139 thank you for the clarification!
@@cloudbullets You're welcome. 😌

Broke up not long after this
Just offscreen was Darren Hill, pointing a finger and saying "don't mess this up!" :-)
got this and some other replacement stuff on a bootleg dvd of replacement stuff
Fall of 88. Portland, OR. Smaller venue. Amazing environment: a party. Plenty of stage dives!
I saw this tour (amazing!) and when they opened up for Tom Petty (hilarious disaster). I also saw them in Queens in 2014 (I think that was the year).
They look deflated, trying to put on a face. I think they both knew this album was their last.
Just remembering what a tool Dave Kendall was makes this all the more special
Yeah, that was some rude interrogation.

Stomp! hahah 😂
Does anyone know the air-date on this?
I don’t know the exact date, sorry. But maybe someone does.
@@indiemusicstuff4287 That’s OK. Thanks for posting it in the first place. They’re my favorite American band
Probably Jan or Feb of 1991....
this has 120 likes...should i leave it that way?

Never noticed how much Paul looks and sounds like Thomas Jane.
Sober Paul! Of course, band broke up later in ‘91, missed badly ever since.
120 minutes, headbangers ball, liquid tv, story tellers, yo MTV raps, mtv is such a joke now.
I'm going to take a wild guess and say I'll bet he's had a drink or two since this interview.
Hilarious. As always
Definitely!
I know this original interview by heart. This isn't close to it at all. I hate this version

Anyone know how much $ Tommy make in GnR? Was it life a life changing amount?
He was there for about 15 years. I would think he made at least 100,000 grand a year
A lot more than the replacements
Tommy has crazy Mac DeMarco vibes. Or I suppose vice versa ;)
Whatever, fool.
You comparing in any regard Mac demarco to tommy Stinson is embarrassing
