Storybook Land SECRETS REVEALED

- Storybook Land Canal Boats has a fascinating history. This was an opening day attraction that had nothing to look at. After 3 months they closed it down and did a complete refurbishment.
Walt only wanted men to work on this ride originally. For 2 reasons the boats were heavy and had to be pushed and Walt wanted the ride to feel like a father was telling his children a bedtime story. Then Storybook Land Canal Boats became an attraction that only women could work. Now any Cast Member can work at Storybook Land Canal Boats.

Storybook Land is such an incredible ride and one of my favorites. I'm just blown away by the fascinating history behind this ride, I never knew about this. The attention to detail in the miniatures by the Imagineers was so genius. This video gave me a new idea for my future Disneyland visit. I've always been so amazed by how Disneyland is the perfect place to be at night and the rides in Fantasyland make way for a happily ever after ending to your Disneyland day. I'm planning to ride this at night along with Casey Jr. on my next visit. Happy Holidays to you sweet Chris, Amanda, Miles, and the rest of the PPP crew!! Thank you for bringing the Disney Magic to my life!!
100th birthday party anniversary celebration of Life in Disneyland on the best
I'm a Storybook Captain, and more than once I've had kids loudly announce when exiting Monstro saying," He's pooping us out!".
Hahahahahahahahaha great now I’ll think that every time. 💙💚😂
I'm ashamed to admit that I read the title as "The Most Sexiest Attraction " rather than "The Most Sexist Attraction "! I was like, " Okay....welcome to Provost After Dark!" LOL!
Same 🤣
@@lostinwonderart We're horrible! Lmao! 🤣
Awe yeah! 😂👍💙
Any attraction with Chris or Amanda in it is automatically the sexiest attraction
Well with Amanda for sure. 💚💙
Chris,
Here's a inside inside story about the STORYLAND ride.
In the 1960's I worked at the park. I was part of the Mouseketeers Blue Company and appeared at the MICKEY MOUSE CLUB CIRCUS. When I was 19 there were times when I was asked to stay late to fill-in for cast members who were absent. Most of the time I would accept a gig as part of the KIDS OF THE KINGDOM. Put this particular time I agreed to guide a Canal Boat. It was and still is my favorite ride. And I knew the script verbatim.
Now, as I'm sure you know, the speeches of cast is written and rehearsed. We were not allowed to sway from the script. Not even to answer guests questions.
I was a bit testy. It was late in a long day. I was not the HAPPIEST person in the HAPPIEST PLACE. So as we made the final right turn. Passing the Green Wooden Stockade Doors a young joker asked what was that to the left. The boat storage. So I was the first to answer, "That's Never Neverland. Because we Never Never take you there."
Realizing what I did I knew I was in deep water with the ride manager.
There was a moment of dead silence. Then the parents, followed by the kids, started to laugh louder than any other part of the scripted puns.
After that I only worked with Blue Team or Kids of the Kingdom.
Jim
What?!?! That is amazing! 💚💙
I took my son to Disneyland this past July for the first time, he was a couple months shy of 3 years old and kept asking "play please" on this ride because he really wanted the boat to stop so he could get off and play with the houses haha. I've always loved this ride but do even more now with this sweet memory.
I love that story. What a great memory
I ride this often with my children, and I get so caught up looking at their reactions and faces, I forget to look at the actual villages.
@@provostparkpass Did you know that only men were allowed to drive the horses? I don't know exactly when it changed, but I know the rule was in effect up to the 80's. They also did not allow men to have beards or mustaches, although a couple of men were grandfathered in. If they ever shaved, they could not grow their beards back.
My family and I got to meet you on Main Street this last Monday(12/13/21). I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to come talk to us and for wishing the little one a happy early birthday it was the highlight of our trip! We truly enjoy watching your videos and you have fans for life! - John, Erin and Zoey
When I was a wee lad my Dad used to say this ride was for little girls and we only go to ride on it "because of my younger sister." But I love this ride. I didn't get to appreciate it until I was older though. The attention to detail is amazing!
I love the way the Matterhorn lines up with the mountains
So do I. Isn’t it pretty. 💙💚
Fun Fact that you showed but didn't talk about... Storybook Boats are one of only 3 rides that still receive at Holiday Overlay (poor some out for Jingle Cruise) as many of the cottages throughout the ride have wreaths on the door and little light up Christmas trees out front. Its a minor overlay for sure, but its a super cute little addition during the holidays.
💙💚
Storybook Land is really an enchanting little ride.
Thanks for making a video of this ride especially at night. This ride is always so crowded when I go that it's hard to go on
Went to Disneyland for the first time and got to be in the first boat of the day with you while filming this video! You were so kind, love your videos!
Storybook Land is one of my favourites! I’m excited to learn all the secrets about it!
It’s one of my absolute favs as well. 💙💚
We rode this ride at night. When fireworks go off …they stop the boat, wherever it is. You can see the reflection of the fireworks in the canal. Awesome sight.
Matterhorn is my favorite ride, so I was so excited to see that little detail before! It never gets old.
Sweet little Storybookland. I hope it never goes away.
I've ridden both rides. I feel as a lad I rode Casey Jr. because I think I remember riding in "cage car" Definitely rode it twice as an adult. Love the "back story"of why men narrated it. Both attractions where Walt's obsession to detail & he knew his guests would appreciate it. Well, you know what happened 55 yrs. ago today. His memory & company STILL survive! Great video!
Night time and dusk are the best times for Storybook Land! It’s just magical! Another great video! Thank you!
I didn’t know a lot about the storybook Land Canal ride, thanks for doing your homework and letting us all know.
You bet Jen.
there i am signing the story book woooo!!!! so great meeting you
Thank You for the history of Storybook Land. This was a great explanation.
I laughed out loud when Chris said”you hoo, summer blow out” 😂😂 love your videos!
I especially love the ride at night! Those tiny Christmas trees are darling! 🎄💖
So cute. 💙💚
Storybookland is my FAVORITE ride!
Signed the storybook ride book twice!
Going on friday for my birthday with my wife. Thanks for this video, now I get to impress her.
"Okay....welcome to Provost After Dark!" - @Obi Juan Kenobi - best part of the comment - THAT made me laugh!
I have never been on this ride! Thanks for showing it! My son is terrified of Monstro, like can’t look at it/ doesn’t want to hear about it. So I’m going to show him this to help him know that it’s a safe ride.
My granddaughter got to sit just below the reverse switch and be the co-captain on her first ride ever on the canal boats. She loved it as she had the best seat in the house facing forward and above everyone! 😄🥰
That was beautiful! Thank you, Chris!
love this ride. i've always saved it until the end of each day because it's so pretty at night. i never knew about the book so i'm going to rope drop it next time i'm there. thank you for this video. always love when this ride gets love and appreciation
When I was little the cast members told us that Monstro sneezed so hard his tail blew off which is why we could go through to Storybookland.
I got to sign the book at The Haunted Mansion last time I went. They said for the rest of the day, all I had to do was tell them and I wouldn't have to wait in line.
i love Storybook Land when i first went on that ride i was like wow look at the towns how on earth did they make these towns and when i saw the lamp i was like Abu i wanted to get the lamp but no my mom kept me seated down but we never went at night time so i guess i might need to tell her let's go to this right at night time also i never been to the Casey Jr ride
I was excited to see this video come out. I met you right after you did your bit on the old lighthouse. It was awesome meeting you! Thanks for being a cool dude about it!
Ronnie you are awesome. 💙💚
When I was three, Monstro scared me and me cry. The boat captain let me sit on the engine next to her.
Oh, how cute. I accidentally stepped on the boat captain the last time I rode Storybook Land. I apologized and told her I had recently had my knee replaced. 😏
Absolutely adore this ride and you’re so right… you can’t beat it at night 🙌🏼
At first glance, I read that as "sexiest ride"
😂😂
That title could also be true. 😂💚💙
@@provostparkpass But it is not sexist?
Well, now I have to make sure I ride Storybook Land on my next trip; I will not see it the same ever again. (And that's a good thing.)
Casey jr is my favorite ride in fantasy land, the view of the quilt flowerbed is so beautiful!
I absolutely love this ride, even at 43 years old it's one of my favorites. Thank you for this video, Team Provost
If you are lucky enough to go during the fireworks, they stop in front of Cinderella castle and the fireworks are right above you.
I'm told that when I was about 3 years old we were going on this attraction. I apparently screamed bloody murder as we went into Monstro. I guess I thought we were being eaten!
Ok you got me in the opening. When asked for guess and then said no for ride after ride... I guessed you were headed for the Canoes. I hear story book land is a good place to be during fireworks. Never done it but hear it is cool. I find the ducks a distraction. They need to be in 1/12 scale (LOL). I remember on my first time at Disneyland the Matterhorn Bobsleds were an E ticket. A really big deal. I rode 5 times that day. Whaaaat.
The imagineers don't change the lights, they send in Chip and Dale to do it.
a must ride for me every time!
It is a beautiful ride day or night, although our first time through at night there were so many ducks it looked like a horror movie invasion.
This is one of the rides that i would love to spend a lot of time on. Riding through doesn't give me time to take in the details that I want to see. Guess I'll have to keep going on it. ;) I've also not as yet experienced it at night time. I now have a new goal to complete. I love the mini Christmas/holiday decorations!
Oldest living tree at Disneyland? I thought there was a palm tree left over from when the Dominguez family owned the land. That would HAVE to predate that bonzai tree.
Love the video and such a great ride with such amazing little (literally) details
Is there away you could video getting on and off the rides more. It's helpful to see how easy or hard rides are to get on/ off. It would be great to see for someone that has some mobility issues.
We used to live in Garden Grove and my parents took me to Disneyland ALL the time. Mother told me the first time I went on Storybook Land I yelled out "Shark!" Mom said everyone in the boat laughed.
It’s crazy seeing the changes since we last went to Disneyland.
Chris, you didn't mention how EXTRA magical Storybook Land is at Christmas time. It's been a while, but I'm presuming they still decorate it.
What a fun little ride, thank you for showing the multiple views of the ride, the whale always scared me 😔 I’ll go next one time and be brave. Also hurray for the addition of the reverse switch! Hahaha great history thank you for taking the time to research, create and post 💚💙🐳🏡🚂
You guys are amazing. You visit rides I stopped riding and rekindle my desire to ride them with a newfound appreciation and wonder. Keep up the great work!
That was a really cute video! The sweet whimsical music at the end was the right touch 🧚♀️
Awesome Video! I was nervous about Monstro when I was little.
I love Story Book Canal. I finally had to take my grandkids with out their mother to get them on the ride. (Daughter is a thrill seeker, LOL) So Walt really wanted a miniature Epcot there? Well he created a full sized one at WDW.
Chris, you are the best! I think this may be my new favorite Provost Park Pass. And I'm pretty sure this is my "bonus" daughter Summer's favorite attraction as well. I shared the link with her.
So glad you Glad you liked it Ron. 💚💙
Story Book Canal is one of our favorite rides - another fantastic video; I love the history and information you always bring. Thank you for brightening my day.
What if the Storybook Land and Jungle Cruise skippers switched places?
Oh man that day would be GLORIOUS 😂🤣
@@provostparkpass Yes. Yes it would.
As a skipper myself, I can tell you that would likely be a big mess LOL 😂
You left out the best part of the ride! The GIANT DUCKS!
At night ducks that have nibbled on some Wonderland cake grow enormous and sleep in London Park, towering over the trees there! I have told Disney they need to add that to the narration...
I’ve been reading this wrong all day. I’ve been so curious why the Storybook Canal Boats was the sexiest ride! Note that I’m off work and can watch, it’s a little different. Ha ha ha!!!
My favorite part is the giant ducks terrorizing the villages
I love Storybook Land! 💝
It one of my favs.
Lol! I read the title as "sexiest"! I was waiting for some crazy stories! LOL!!! Still really enjoyed the video, thanks:)
😂🤣😂🤣💚💙
I saw you and your family the other day (Thursday I believe) at Dca but was to shy to say hi since you guys were eating 😅🥲 I love your videos !!
Next time come over! 💚💙
I thought you were going to rope drop the canoes 😂
I thought the Dominguez Palm was the oldest tree in Disneyland since it was there before the park!
It’s the oldest living tree that was originally in the park
That keeping the plants so small is because tinkerbell must be new because 10 yrs ago they bragged about having gardeners trimming the plants everyday.
Rope drop... the canoes?!?! :🤣
Watching half way thru and realized the title was “sexist” and here I was thinking “so how is this the sexiest ride?” LMAO
Hahahahaha so many people read it that way as well n😂💙💚
Definitely one of the most underrated attractions of Disneyland.
Storybook land is a FAVORITE if my family. My son would try to not wake the whale
Muh-der-uh-dom 😆 It’s a cool place I’ve been there! But I love this video! Storybookland is such a classic! I was riding this when I saw you riding Casey Jr in the park last month lol
Oh man I slaughter English foreign languages it’s even worse. 😂👍😂💚💙🤣
It’s “Ma-dur-OH-damn” (pardon my language, lol). That place is awesome! My grandparents are from the same city where that miniature park is. They took me there a few times when I was a kid and my dad was stationed out there with the military.
That’s awesome. What a great memoery
It really is! Also, hello from Utah County!
I have never been on the Storybook Land ride or the Casey JR. Train. Someday, if I ever get to go back. 🌼
I propose to my wife at the Paris version of this ride =)
Great video (as usual)! Wouldn't the canoe ride also be classified as narrated by a live person as well? Or does being yelled at to stroke! stroke! stroke! not count as a narrative?
I almost got a stoke on that ride. 😂💙💚
Good point, canoe believe it?
Thankyou for the memories. Especially when I would take my Daughter on the two rides when she was so little. Although I did not know about signing the book for being the first to ride that day. They do that every day? Wonder if I could hobble over there in time to scribble in the book... thanks for the memories, although I remember the tickets different. Dosen't matter.
I am a 67 year old lady. Still my favorite ride!
Isn’t it great!!
You should make a video about rides you should ride at night like this one
Very interesting overview of this classic ride. I have never been to Disneyland only WDW. I hope to go at some point
HOLD ON! THE GHOST HOST IS JUST A RECORDING???? LIES AND SLANDER!
I reeally hope you don't get in trouble with disney over this. You guys are my favorite people!
Your videos are awesome!! Love the content and endless puns!! I was curious, what are your thoughts on the new Star Wars hotel? I’m excited to see how it turns out but the teasers they’ve been showing seem a little underwhelming lol. Happy holidays!!
I’m super excited and a little nervous.
You know, really thinking about it, Storybook Land is kind of like a land in itself. Half land, half ride, all canal.
You actually pronounced Madurodam almost correctly in Dutch!
Holy cow!! That was lucky. We both know how bad I am at pronouncing things. 💙💚💙💚😂
My favorite ride da or night! If you have small children they can sit on the bow of the boat which is really fun for them!
One time when I was little on my birthday I was dressed up as Alice from Alice in Wonderland and I actually got to sit with Cast Member on the Alice boat and helped by pointing out the houses of the Disney characters.
That! Is amazing. Such a good memory. 💚😂
@@provostparkpass it sure was. That’s the magic of Disney.
You’re right. It looks amazing at night! 🌓
Went on this Thursday night, it was great at night
When I was little, our local park had a fun house called Noah’s Ark. You entered by walking in through a whale’s mouth on its squishy tongue. I would walk in, about 10 feet, and run back out. I was a teenager before I went the whole way in 🤣
Kennywood??
@@rosebud824 yes 🙂
A whale? Wrong Bible story.
@@ajzeg01 it was Pittsburgh, nuff said 🤣
Oaken doesn't hail us anymore... he did when it first went in next to Arrendale
Great video, but I was waiting for you to say "Now that's a deep subject" after you said "Well, Well, Well" when talking about Monstro.
Oh man could could I have missed that. 💚💙😂🤣
How about if Disney would add *The Hundred Arce Woods* to Storybook Land? Then they could do something with *Critter Country* (like expand New Orleans Square once the retheming of Splash Mountain / Princess and the Frog move in). BTW Storybook Land also has *the backside of water* but it is never mentioned. 😂😂
Another great video Chris.
ROFLOL, at first when I read the tittle I thought it said Sexy-ist ride. OMG too funny...
I think I still prefer the Disneyland-Paris version; it's a little darker, and is the ONLY remaining Disney-attraction to feature any reference the 1984 cult-classic 'Return to Oz'! (one of my favorites!) =)
