FYI for anyone who is scared of Valve replacement; it's easy. You don't have to send a head to a machine shop. And I have bought whole sets of valves for under $50 many times; if you shop around. Get a valve removal tool and learn yourself. That's how you really save money.
I was expecting this to be super hard since it’s an Audi and I’m switching over from Honda’s. Lol but it’s sooo much easier since you don’t have to pop the cams off. Great video 👍🏽 I just bought this exact Audi with almost 200,000 miles on it and I’m thinking of just doing a head gasket, timing belt and water pump all at once for peace of mind lol
HI THIS IS JUST AN IDEA FOR YOU. WHEN YOU REALLY HAVE TO REMOVE LIKE THOSE THREE HEX HEAD TURBO FLANGE BOLTS BESIDES A SIX POINT SOCKET GRIND THE END OF THE SOCKET TO REMOVE CHAMPHER FROM SOCKET. IT WILL GIVE YOU MORE ENGAGEMENT ON BOLT. IVE DONE THIS FOR YEARS AND IT REALLY WORKS GOOD GARY COMSTOCK
This video is awesome! Thanks so much! If my car is running fine and I just need to replace the head gasket, do I need to mess w the cams at all, or can I just get to the head gasket, clean it , and change it? The gasket kit I have has everything in it, but I'm scared I'll mess the timing up if I take the cams out.
Hm do you charge to do the timing belt on the audi a4 and cam shaft seal im not sure which one is leaking though if head gasket or just the camshaft seal
Great video, and congradulations fon all youir subscribers,.. Well done ! ( pat on the back ) I missed on having to remove the chain in the rear of the head,.. Pl;ease help me understand,.. Thanks for your time and considerationm.
I wouldn't necessarily say its a dead engine. Seeing as you were able to remove the cylinder head, you must have mechanical knowledge. OEM pistons are pretty cheap and simple to replace if you can get the engine out of the car. I myself don't set an engine as dead until the block is cracked or has a hole in it.
What is the size of the triple square tool that you used to remove the head bolts at 3:59. That info is nowhere in the internet, just spent 1 hour digging. Please provide the size of the triple square bit for the next guy doing this. Armando also asked the same question.
hey i watch the videos on the vw passat for putting it in service position and then replacing the timing belt and etc. on it i wanted to know if you could give me a full list of the tools and bits i would need for the job. i have a glx 4 motion v6, the hoses and stuff that you remove when putting in service position are in the same spot even know that was on a 1.8 turbo? i posted this in ur discussing area but i didnt know if you would check there im trying to do the work this weekend the sooner i get the tools the quicker i can get started. thanks in advance.
Hi, I think I may need the gasket replaced that you pull out on the 3:18 of this video. How much time should I expect my shop to charge me? (so how much real time is Part 1 and up to 3:18 of part 2?
if you bend a valve , you have to replace the guide as well , because you pulled a bent shaft ,the valve stem up into the guide with the valve spring , when engine is hot these guides will open up because the bent stem of the valve pulled into the guide will open the hole and cause big problems of sealing up , the valve will move around in the sloppy hole causeing it to seat off center and not to seal up which will cause a miss and a lean burn situation which will make it overheat and burn valve seats out, so make sure you have a reputable shop do the head work
Please help: is it normal for a "low pressure" light to come on after replacing cylinder head + oil cooler +oil filter? I didn't pull the fuse to build oil pressure before starting it so maybe that's why the lifters are so loud?
@@polo16v191 1 second?? I thought the dash warnings don't go away unless you disconnect the battery. I used my scanner and see no codes but a warning is displaying on my dash about oil pressure
It is normal to have the lifters that are loud. For a moment. For some miles it is normal. You are talking about oil pressure problem. On your dash you wrote that it does not go away. That is a very big problem !! It must disappear after the start of the engine immediately, or in your case after some second !!! Not more. Take. Your oil pressure with a manometer ! Did you forget to put oil in the engine ? You have to check it asap do not run the engine if the light does not come off!!!
Cory M Overheating, coolant mixed with oil, smoking out the tail pipe are all signs. I recommend showing it to a professional if its not obvious that it needs a head gasket.
I have a 2002 VW passat, 1.8 turbo, 148K miles, blown head gasket, it runs but will blow white smoke. What can I expect to be charged for fixing it, or is it cheaper to have someone change out the engine?I live in Lynnwood, WA, just in case there are any good mechincs out there looking for some work.
This car has about 151K miles on it, I would be happy if I make $1000 on it when all said and done. I've often thought of making a channel and turning what I do to something resembling the wheeler dealer show but not sure if there would be an audience for it.
If im remembering right, it should be holding anymore. The thread goes into the turbo, not the manifold. Should slide out from the manifold. To remove from the turbo, get a reverse threading bit and a drill or a you can always borrow one of those old torches and just burn it out and retap it.
Your videos are amazing, they’re so helpful and informative. I’ve never really had the confidence to work on my Audi Even watching your videos I was doubting myself but with your help I’ve managed to get the job done without breaking anything. Thank you so much for the help keep doing what you’re doing it’s amazing. 🙏🏼🫡🎉
I had one in Germany Passat 2004 in 2012 with 187.000 km and it's costs 4500 € to change chain and belt and others bullshits. Guys on service in Berlin said that doesn't worth ,anyway you coming a have a lot problems with that engine with lifters etc.. later So i throw away that shit car and bought Ford Focus .Never ever have problems with engine with Ford. We in Germany said ! "If you want problems in life ,just buy vw with 1.8 t penis engine or Alfa Romeo !" 😂

It wasn't too bad prob took like 20 minutes.

+GARY C Good tip Gary, Thanks. Might also grind off a little around the outside to prevent locking with the cavity the bolt is in.
u mean, cut the nut in half?

Please let me know where you had luck finding a good quality cylinder head replacement
Hm do you charge to do the timing belt on the audi a4 and cam shaft seal im not sure which one is leaking though if head gasket or just the camshaft seal
Like your video, I watch them all the time
I think that would be great idea. Start with good material and have good personality it will be a success.
The chain tensioner locking tool. How do you know when it's in place enough to take out the cam bolts
Great video. Thanks. Where do you get the "tool" with the hex bolt and plastic piece to hold down the timing "chain" tensioner; at 9:00 minutes.

hey i have an 03 audi a4 3.0 and i took the passenger cylinder heads off and it looks like one of the piston its broken.the engine its decease then?
jose Ruiz yes, time for a new/used engine.

If you were to get the same type head from a junkyard would you be able to swap it?

How do i know that i have this problem, i have a code P0171 and the car is jerking/ hiccup on acceleration.

Hey. very helpful video. But how did you manage take takeoff/ install new timingbelt with audi front not dissembled?
Gracias maestro of audi
wouldnt it be cheaper to get a used head?
instead of a machine valve job?

Collin Fox yes if it disappear very fast (1s max). Do not forget to prime the engine next time

My 10 head bolts are stripped or my t50 doesn’t work for it
Hi, hope all is well. I own a VW Jetta gen IV 05, 1.8T GLI. How do you tell if you need a new head gasket?
Cory M Overheating, coolant mixed with oil, smoking out the tail pipe are all signs. I recommend showing it to a professional if its not obvious that it needs a head gasket.
Excuse me where you buy the extensión swivel? I not find a fit to remover bolt near turbo
job morales garcia if I remember correctly harbor freight. gl
That disclaimer was hilarious

Call Doug @ Autovice / Bow Wow in North Lynnwood, across 99 from Dairy Queen
Thanks for the tip.
Any luck???
All those ten millimeter bolts you talk about are 6 mm. They use a 10 mm wrench. A 10 mm bolt likely uses a 17 mm wrench or larger
Is that a torx bit for the head bolts?
Poly drive #10 bit
It would be interesting to know mileage and how much you paid for it. Also, how much in parts and the profit you would like to make
This car has about 151K miles on it, I would be happy if I make $1000 on it when all said and done. I've often thought of making a channel and turning what I do to something resembling the wheeler dealer show but not sure if there would be an audience for it.

So those three bolts.... I didn't strip them but one snapped off at the threads. How should I proceed???? It was the outer left one :/

drill it out
I love it
Let me know how to replace piston rings
So where’s the rest of the vid for putting it back ??
its there ua-cam.com/video/qGwMyW8sMLQ/v-deo.html
size of the torx tool at 3:59??
Ploydrive 10m
its not a torx. tripple spline/polydrive 10MM
That was un-germanly easy
Tbh, i removo all 3fckers by assault ratchet😂
Come on...it will be easier to take the hole motor out...🤔..or not...i think so🤗
Christopher Clark
Nope lol taking head off is lot easier than taking the motor off
