The Truth About Lab Grown Diamonds

- Many people have heard about lab-grown diamonds and how they look the same as organic diamonds, but cost less. But with all things that look too good to be true, there is more to the story. Joining us to discuss the pros and cons of lab-grown diamonds is Bret Eulberg from Robert Haack Diamonds. For more information on Robert Haack Diamonds and to find a location near you, visit RobertHaackDiamonds.com.
His argument is basically that he doesn’t want the price of diamonds, thus his profits, to drop.
The diamond industry is worried!
I couldn't have said it better.

Nope, I want my diamond to have a history, such as being born during the dinosaur age and digged up by a poor native kid who was forced into the hard labor by corporate America. Lol

Hahaha he says that it is a lot of methane used to grow the diamonds in a lab (that methane stays in the chamber doesn’t go out killing all the lab people working there 🤣). But maybe he is forgetting that for 1carat of diamond there are 4 tons of stone that has to be dig out leaving an enormous hole on the earth... let’s just imagine you buy that tiny little stone and you get also 4tons as a gift with it. 💎

I went into a jeweller to price up some options, said I was considering lab and the chick basically tried to shame me into a natural, hinting that I obviously didn't care if I wasn't going natural. Picked up pretty quick it was just her trying to get that fat commission. Was offered a bunch of high inclusion, tiny carat shit for $8k+ (AUD).
Well I just bought my engagement LAB GROWN diamond online, $3500 for a round 1.29 carat, D colour, VVS2, ideal cut, no flourescence - absolutely stunning and basically perfect. The exact same specs on a natural are $30k. Rip diamond trade, the younger generation are waking up to your bs.
This comment is everything: "Rip diamond trade, the younger generation are waking up to your bs."
Smart
Well my 1.5ct engagement ring that was $4000....when I wanted to tell it back they offered me $200. So his argument is BS anyways. I’d get the lab grown now, grandkids don’t care if it’s lab grown it’s the fact that it’s a family heirloom is why they will treasure it!
Same thing happened to me, selling it back price was so disrespectful.
Exactly! Investment my ass. They always offer half
someone said in an article that once you buy the diamond, the resale value is shit.
pulchra it totally is! It’s like buying a car.
And so much wisdom in what you saif about grandkids treasuring heirloom. Like seriously, they be trying to exploit us in the name of emotion, what do they take us for?!
What are you getting for $3,000 in a BR 2.00 ct carat lab grown diamond?
You're bashing new technology, and you should educate your customer between the differences. Let the consumer make an informed decision.
Why should a consumer pay De Beers outrageous inflated diamond prices, when they can purchase an engagement ring with only one month's salary and get a better quality diamond. This way they don't have to spend three months salary like in the De Beers Diamond advertisements.
When you can get a larger better quality stone for less dollars?
Diamonds don't go stale whether they are dirt diamonds or above ground diamonds... leave it up to the consumer, now they have a choice. The diamond Syndicate is shaking in their wading boots.
If lab grown diamonds are genuine diamonds and jewelers can't tell the difference without the light box treatment, then no else is ever going to know whether the diamond was lab grown or came from Mother Earth. I suppose lab grown diamonds will be engraved or somehow indelibly marked as such by the producer. Due to the savings I would go for high quality lab grown if I were in the market. I sense this will mean an eventual end to the blood diamond trade.
Sun Sprite or those boxes will be popular, or eventually there will only be lab grown diamonds mostly in the world and natural ones will be rare and a lot mor expensive
@@sdvbadvb8597 - Yes, I agree. Thank you.
Actually I just read a very extensive article on this and they really cant tell , it will pass the test becuase its actually the same thing down to molecule . crazy . make You wonder what everyone has been buying all along
It isn't like real diamonds have resale value. My rings (engagement and wedding) were $12,000. After trying to sell them for months, I finally got $1500 for them. So talking about resale value is a bunch of bullshit.
Natasha A idk why youd spend so much on a ring ::
its not about the resale value, its only because u got fucked two time, when u bought and when u sell cause u have no idea of the quality and the rapaport(who is the official quote for diamond). So yes, u get fucked because u don't pay attention, ur bad.
@ she didnt, her ex husband or fiance dis
@igor they're worthless. Find a diamond broker/jeweler willing to sell 1ct diamonds of any medium quality for $X dollars and willing to buy the same diamond back for $X...even $X - 20%. None, cause the markup on mid grade stones are astronomical and in fact have no real value. Sure if you are talking 2+ ct diamonds in perfect grade those are significantly more rare.
Buy lab grown. If you rare diamond is essentially indistinguishable (hardness, color, clarity, shine, etc) from a lab grown one, there's nothing rare about it.
That is because you paid good money for trash diamonds in the first place Natasha
This guy is a real goober. He probably gave his wife the biggest earth diamond and she still cheats on him
A lab-grown diamond is physically and chemically identical to a natural diamond. Now that de Beers is selling lab-grown diamonds for $800 per carat the diamond world will have to change. The highest quality natural diamonds (i.e. D-F flawless, VVSx) will always command a premium because of their rareness (less than 2% of all mined diamonds) but the rest of the natural diamond market will be pressured downwards and more lab-grown product will move into the marketplace.
It might be identical to a natural diamond, but there are spectroscopy tests that will always pass a natural diamond and flag a lab grown diamond. That's because natural diamonds took millions of years to form and the arrangement of impurities in the lattice structure will show this. The issue here is whether a lab grown diamond is a good investment. I would rather pay $10,000 for a good one carat natural diamond versus $4000 for a lab grown, and in 20 years get back at least what I paid for it instead of getting $5 for my lab grown diamond.
@@gigie555 unfortunately you won't. They will offer you 30-40% of that. Diamonds aren't an investment, they're an expense. And once lab grown diamonds become more widely accepted, the demand for natural will lower, reducing their cost.
Unless you plan to sell your natural diamond, which too doesn't hold it's value, I'm not sure I'd spend the money on a natural stone.
They don’t just look the same. They are the same physically and chemically.
They look exactly the same
The are only 2 REAL difference that can measured or seen in everyday scenarios. Price and Ego.
This guy wants diamonds to keep their fake inflated value. Booooooo
Somebody's BIG MAD? 😂😂😉
A diamond is a diamond is a diamond. Whether “man-made” or machine made.
Don’t let this goober talk you out of a lab diamond cuz he’s worried about his profits.
"they use methane and all sorts of bad stuff, environment"
lol at this dork. trying to make it sound dangerous.
charles norris And the natural diamonds are carbon neutral? I think they are probably way worse! 😂
@@ARlELATOM No! diamond mining is 100% natural organic and homeopathic!
charles norris Oh I see! 🤣
I own several pieces of jewelry with diamonds all are natural diamonds but I'm not at all opposed to owning a lab grown diamond. I look forward to owning one.
I think this is another thing to be afraid of when you go to the jewelry store. Since no one can really tell the difference, how do you know you are getting a mined diamond? They could purchase these lab grown diamonds and just tell you they are mined. I love the idea of lab grown diamond or a moissanite so I know where it came from and people were not abused to produce my jewelry.
Just buy direct from lab if it's open to the public.reminds me of bjs,Sam's Club, costco and restaurant depot, nothing like high quality on your plate every night
omg never seen anyone so desprate to keep screwing everyone that walks through his doors.
Let’s talk about how many people who Lost their lives or are being treated Poorly because of mine Dimond’s. No ones wedding ring is worth the cost of a life. For that reason I wanted a lab grown Dimond.
I think lab diamonds are brilliant! I wouldn’t mind it ...
do yal vet your guests? dude sounds like he's bashing a whole market with little to no facts
Notice the whole segment is sponsored by the jewelers store. This is more of an advert than a story
Mined diamonds are common too. So why pay more?
A LAB GROWN DIAMOND AND A NATURAL DIAMOND IS THE SAME THING, from chemical composition to physical properties all are same, this will reduce price of diamond like crazy and corporations dont like that
Don't trust a man with bangs while balding
I just bought lab diamond 1 ct. It's the same from my engagement ring natural diamond.. the difference, is the price...i go to lab diamond, really they're beautiful and eye catching...
Josephine Ortiz I did notice it seemed more colorful, sparkly and clearer then the natural
How investors think:
If lab made diamonds are going to be mass produced, in investing in the chemicals used to make them.
#Coin
Lol genius, this is carbon and can be find everywhere...
#FakeGoodIdea
the77 lmao I was thinking the same thing. After hearing that I was like hmmm what companies make the chemicals to create these diamonds? So I can invest in the stocks haha
@@igor-fk3vv Yup. It's not a chemical, it's a compound and gases.
Lmaoooo it’s hilarious to see the stupidity come out in someone when clearly their businesses are threatened
It’s not just him, though. A lot of people are all about the status of diamonds. And, they feel threatened by diamonds merely being beautiful stones just like sapphire or moissanite rather than a status symbol.
Diamonds aren't really valuable. Buy a better quality lab grown diamond. It's more pretty & cheaper. Jewelers are scared of people no longer wanting to pay more for natural diamonds.
As lab grown diamonds are chemically and structurally identical to “natural diamonds” (or in other words, lab grown diamonds are also diamonds), then the mass production of these stones will only work to make nearly all diamonds (save for a few exceptional and historic stones like the Hope or Kohinoor) drop in value. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, unless your are a high margin jeweler or a traditional diamond dealer. For them, the party will soon be over. And there must be REALLY high margins in this business as if you look up diamonds on UA-cam, you will soon be near assaulted by “engagement ring adverts”. Sounds like high margins to me.
All diamonds become worthless in the resale market. What bride wants someone else’s diamond?
Still a diamond. A test tube baby is still a real baby. 🤗
I seen dat on a diff video lol
People are hating on him but he is telling the absolute truth
Hey grandma, thanks for giving me a diamond which isn't blood diamond, grandpa made a wise choice, I love u both
This dude is definitely not even close to an expert.
His issue is correct. Malls are selling lab grown at close to the same price. In 10 years time when the market is flooded. They will be worthless. The natural will still be valuable. I want to buy a lab grown but I ain't paying the same for a fake as a real one.
Probably happens all the time
He's definitely invested in the diamond mining industry and SALTY
Hahaha hes salty 🤣 because this is the future. Natural diamonds aren't rare either homie.
I bought a platinum ring diamond not heat treated, EF S1 S2, and bought 3 lab grown diamonds for comparison also not heat treated, FG S1 S2 very good cut on all of them and I cant tell the difference. Nice thing was that 3 of those lab grown diamonds cost me less then the real diamond ring and total diamonds I have surpasses that one real diamond. I really dont care if they loose their value.
So he buys and sells the synthetic but think their bad?
(3:01) it isn’t cubic zirconium.
It is Carbon.
No store will give u back what u brought jewelry for idk y they lie to people and tell them u can sell diamond jewelry back and the same price at which it was purchased it doesn’t work like that
Welcome to diamond industry
I had an engagement ring with two one carat diamonds and a sapphire in the middle. I had it valued and it was valued at $20,000 . The week after that I went back to the jewellery store where I valued my ring and told the jewellery that I wanted to sell my ring.... and he was so angry with me and he told me he could only give me $ 2,000. So I've realized that even the mined diamonds are worthless. So I will only buy moissanite!
they are not worthless, u just get fucked
Why would sell your engagement ring ?
This is so true. My ring came with an appraisal for $10k....retail. However, I was offered $1,500 for it so far by jewelers when trying to sell it. Diamond resale is worse than cars.
This resale value argument is and will always be bs. Natural diamonds are a horrible investment and should not be seen as such. If you honestly think you could get so broke that u need to sell an engagement ring, then you should better invest in insurances or some profitable assets. Just by what u like and be honest about it. The world turns and maybe the prices of natural diamond drop by 90 % in a view years. U never know just like it is with real estate, crypto and Wallstreet etc.
Every thing I've read has said that the only way to tell difference between lab grown, and natural diamonds was by very expensive lab equipment... this guy is saying that all you need is a light box? I wouldn't trust this guy with jewelry purchased at the dollar store!
If you can’t tell the difference and it lasts forever and your not buying and engagement rings to sale what is the difference
It's not a "fake" diamond lmao. it has all the same things that make up a diamond just done by man.
I wanted my engagement ring free of human rights abuse. Go lab.
All i heard was that lab grown diamonds will be cheaper in 5 years.... Bet looks like im getting enganged in 5 years.
This was such an ignorant statement a very long time ago...I wonder what he has to say now that lab grown diamonds are proven to be the same thing...hopefully mining natural diamonds ends and this is the new way that we buy diamonds...Maybe people should see how the mines are?
Lab made diamonds and natural diamonds are the same thing but the lab is more(somewhat) environment friendly and it’s cheaper. So people stop saying it’s not a real diamond, think of the future generations and not the present generations.
Can you imagine grandma, giving me iced water, but the ice is from the freezer at home and not naturally from the glaciers🙄 fucking rude G
Look around. Are natural diamonds rare? They are certainly expensive, the market is certainly controlled. But rare?
HAHA I just went online and bought a lab-grown diamond ring for myself because all I’ve gathered from this is that they’re literally the same thing and I wanted one after seeing this
Ha! Good decision.
Don’t be hurt because you loosing business over blood diamonds. I rather to buy a lab grown
Lab grown diamonds should be mixed in with the raw mined ones. That will destroy the disgusting industry.
Hello
Lab-Grown Diamonds (LGDs) are as real as mined diamonds without the cost, environmental impact, bloodshed or flaws, and I can’t help but feeling that you have a vested interest in talking down LGDs since you are associated with a company that devotes itself to selling mined diamonds. My own research has turned up the truth. There are many advantages along with being almost half the price of mined diamonds. The biggest advantage of LGDs is their environmental impact is much less than mined diamonds. Another advantage of LGDs is they are completely flawless as opposed to mined diamonds that are always going to have some flaws. Also, LGDs being stuck at less than 1.5 carats is no longer true. Augsburg University has created a 155-carat diamond (that actually surpasses the largest mined diamond in surface area) at 92 mm in diameter. As far as the secondary value of a LGDs, I can’t speak to that, but I know something similar to that happens to a brand new car, it depreciates in value by thousands of dollars as soon as you drive it off the lot and still people buy brand new cars. As far as insurance coverage no one needs to pay the yearly insurance fee when the lifetime cost of insuring a diamond is more than the original price of the diamond. LGDs are as real as mined diamonds without the cost, environmental impact, bloodshed or flaws
Some of natural diamond are Type IIa, thats mean totally pure.
Lol LG have no rarity, are u dumb ? We can make as many as we want, and the production cost is constantly dropping. Genuine diamond are limited in quantity
false and false and more false. Seeded diamonds are not always flawless and actually rarely flawless. They have ranging qualities just like naturally occurring diamonds. Earth diamonds are NOT limited. The process that creates diamonds is continual, it didn't stop millions of years ago. Making them is still expensive. Also the highest quality lab diamonds don't pop out every time. So in order to get that higher quality FL -vvsx, d-f diamond, you might have to produce 10 low quality ones THEN have it cut ideally with no mistakes, believe me, they're still rare.
Jorgen Johnson will lab diamonds pass a diamond tester?
Who even cares. His whole narrative is just ridiculous. A diamond is a diamond is a diamond. Whatever overly romaticised narrative you want to put on it is just marketing bullshit
why wait 2 billion years? when u can wait 3 weeks. thats a win for me,
He’s makin stuff up lab diamonds are the way to go
Hes crazy lol hes ridiculous this is way better than getting them from the earth and they are so common they are not as rare as you believe
Lab diamonds for the win
what he never said is the reason a lab diamond "glows" is because the end product is pure.
Where did they find this dork
I own diamond store. Lab created diamonds are hurting my profits. I hate them!
I don't care. Lab diamonds look great, and moissanite looks even better. Invest the money difference in Apple stock and the legacy you will leave your grandchildren will be worth far more, and I mean way, way more.
Just think at how the dealer will buy that back for 1/4 of your purchase price the minute you leave lol
If diamonds were now free everywhere... is still where the shit out of em.... so he's point is for something to be special it had to be expensive?....Hell nah!
The problem i understand with these labgrown diamonds will be, they will loose value over time, why? because there will be coming out more and more massproduced labgrown diamonds, and 10-15y from now you vill loose money selling it, the natural grown diamonds are more rare and will therefore keep their value
.
He's a clown
Lab grown diamond is analogous to us dollars. He implies keeping us dollar is worthless.
Buy a lab-made diamond. Let’s stop destroying Mother Earth.
Agree!!!
They are real diamonds is just bad for your business because if you are buying a diamond for the purpose of selling it then you have no business buying one because you cant afford to keep it it's bad for your business because why would I buy a organic diamond when I could buy the same rock that looks beautiful with less imperfections if any for thousands of dollars less. You don't buy a piece of jewelry to sell it you buy piece of jewelry to decorate your body because of ego or because of sentimental values or it's passed on.
Billionaires dont wear diamonds n gold. They sell them to millionaire's ok maybe a Rolex in gold with diamonds. But that's about it. Best to buy cubic zirconia. Especially if you're not an diamonds expert. Yo go in and see that pretty salesperson geeking u up. Next thing you know you came home with a rock that's not worth half of what you paid for.
Badaa bing badaa boom!!
Do you want a diamond so high youcant afford and manny people die in mines just to get youre wedding ring or your girlfriend caprice just to make him verry happy or you can buy a cheaper and people friendly diamond and everybody is verry happy with the price and can afford buying this gems weather you like it or not if you cant tell wheather its a lab grown of natural mine diamond the price of diamond will soon go down
Wait a minute. This guy cannot tell by eye any difference between Lab produced and natural, yet says its a bad thing to pass on? I agree with all the comments below, he is protecting his own investments..
This guy is goofy. There is a stockpile of diamonds being controlled by 1 company to keep cost of diamonds high. Not to mention that earth diamonds use way more resources and blood to excavate. How many people go yell at grandma after a rigorous check on the jewelery. Not to mention that the GIA now grades lab diamonds the same as earth grown. Huge win for Lab grown.
Pretty sure the resale value doesn't matter if they don't know the origin of the diamond.
the diamond industry is based on getting men to buy diamonds for women to make them feel special (special and rare AS a diamond) but diamonds aren't rare or special unless your cutting stones or harden steel with them... the suffering of Africa wont stop until western women finally admit that they don't care if it sparkles and looks pretty, it only has to represent that someone (you and your wallet or some peasant in Africa) had to suffer for it/or for you because your amazing. lab diamonds are an amazing human triumph and could stop the suffering of millions but it cant happen as long as women are shallow :-(
i want a man made diamond
I can't believe he came on a news show rambling away his self gain smh
The WHOLE value of diamonds is fluff! He's scared....the diamonds are BEAUTIFUL and a 10th of the price!
Does this dude know how is aquire the natural diamond? By his way to talk I don't think so... If they produce it great no piercing earth and destroy life's because it's " rare "
So if you sell your $3,000 lab diamond in 5 years and get a nickel, you lose essentially all of that $3,000. Good luck re-selling that same $13,000 natural diamond for less than a $3000 loss. Not going to happen. That's a bogus argument from someone who is obviously biased
I will never buy another diamond in my life. Ever.
It is almost like jewelry is a shitty investment.
As always, science beats cultural crap.
D beer start making lab grown beacause they want to make price 5 to 10 % in compare to real diamond. So real diamond can maintain it's price. D beers already invest millions of doller in diamond mines. Before only 3 to 4 % people buying diamond when lab grown come may be 9 to 10 % people will buying diamonds but there will be two Different markets, one for real diamonds and one for lab grown. So real diamonds will always get good resale price compare to lab grown.
But even natural diamonds if you try to sell it you get nothing back is a scam Diamond is not like gold natural diamonds are not going up in value
You don't resell diamonds... why the hell does the price matter
If its shiny, durable, and affordable, i see no prob
Who cares
Did kinda have made enough people rich and caused enough other pain and death.
Lab all the way!
Wow! I am convinced, don’t buy a lab grown diamond because it’s bad for the diamond business.
I can sell my certified lab diamond on Ebay, for about the same loss as mined diamond would take. Completely outdated video. It's like buying GMO corn...Except you don't have to ingest it. Would you rather be the gal with the duller, plain, smaller Mined diamond, or the gal with the fiery, brighter, and Larger Lab diamond that looks, and is anatomically identical, to a mined diamond....for about 60% of the cost of the dull mined diamond.
Have y'all ever thought about this? I would bet that some of the big name diamond sellers are lab growing theirs, too...and selling them as earth-mined.
Chatham grown gems have no difference between natural bc they are the same compounds
He seems to be scared his business will go bye bye in a hurry.
