I cried to this again just from rewatching this scene alone. I have read about 15 visual novels, which isn't a lot compared to a large, large margin of the people who frequent this medium, but none of which I read come close to how perfect I think Full Metal Daemon Muramasa is.

can someone explain to me the significance of the helm splitting?

Ma'ken only works when user concentrates in one thing. As in the video, Kikuchi Akitaka lost his sexual function due to saving nurse during war. Because of that, Minato honke put drugs to Kageaki so that while mentally sick he'd fuck with Subaru and succeed House Minato. In the pains of drug and forceful sexual assault, he's mind got to Ma'ken helm splitting.
I know I'm late, but to piggyback off the other commenter (spoilers obv):
Kageaki thought Hikaru was the one who split the helm, as her talent would suggest, but it was him all along - a repressed memory.

I haven't watched anime in a long time, I switched to VNs for that reason, but I've been burned on that too. You also didn't respond to anything that I said, so I'm assuming you agree with me and are being an ass for no reason.
