Security footage shows a 74-year-old Ohio woman robbing a bank at gunpoint on April 19 after she lost her life savings to scammers. Bodycam footage shows Fairfield police confronting Ann Mayers after she left the credit union with her bag of cash. Law&Crime’s Sierra Gillespie details why Mayers went to such great lengths after falling victim to an online scam.

I feel sad for this woman. Scammers should get a diamond through their apricot!

These Scammers of the Elderly are out of Control. There needs to be more harsh punishment for scamming the elderly
Being old is NO EXCUSE to then create fear and pain on another because you were screwed over. I'm glad the bond is high for her..she's nuts as well.
The scammers should get a real job and not profit off of basically stealing peoples money.
There are actually heightened sentences for crimes against the elderly in almost every state. In some cases the penalties are extremely severe.
It's getting worse, and they're getting better at it.
Only 20 more years and the older generation then will have lived with computers and scams and know what's happening.

My elderly mother of 91 gets daily phone calls from people claiming to be from Social Security, Amazon, Medicare, the local police department (looking for donations), etc. Every single day. I explained to her a long time ago when these calls started that they are scams to get her money, and to NEVER EVER talk to these people, just hang up on them. Everybody should have a talk with their elderly family members and forewarn them about scammers and to never to talk to them.
Yup. And to keep blocking those numbers. They call from different numbers but they eventually run out of numbers to call from.
Amen. Take care of ur folks and grand folks!
That's insane and not right what these scammers are doing of course. It's unfortunate that your mother has to deal with those phone calls. You want to be able to answer your phone and have family, friends, neighbors, normal phone calls and not all the time deal with this BS.
They spoof real numbers using a VPN VoIP unit. Blocking the numbers doesn't really help.
And as a family member, most of this info is coming from googling names and being able to find info online.
I've had to remove my info from over 14 sites. FOURTEEN. And that's likely not all of them. Because public info is available. Google your name, or your phone number. $20 says, you'll find your address plastered all over the internet.
Imagine working your whole life... sacrificing time, sacrificing a potential life partner/relationship, sacrificing your health, working most of the hours you're awake for decades, saving little by little that entire time, planning for the future, making sure you have enough set aside to pay for medical, to have a roof, food, some choices especially in your retirement years, and then to have it all taken in a keyboard stoke. That's terrifying and sad. I feel really bad for the lady. Banks should have some sort of procedure in place when people start to make weird withdrawals or tons of money at once, or something. And ways to get the money back. It's really sad.
She sent it to them. She probably had a bank for decades and a retirement fund since her 20s. Probably stick to those instead of just sending out payments

She’s sitting there wondering how to accomplish all that after her life savings is taken from her for whatever reason. She’s snapped and is no longer mentally stable.
She was in dire straits. She owed her sister $5,000. and it's reported that a friend loaned her $65,000. Her scammer needed money at customs. Sounds like a romance scam, but who knows. Ong like wtf it’s too obvious
Exactly. The title of this video alone is worded to garner sympathy.
Dude this cop was literally the most respectful cop I’ve ever seen. Appropriate level of force? Maybe not, but given the circumstances I really like to see cops like this. He ensured her that she would be treated respectfully by the rest of the department too. Nice work
I feel so sorry for all the elderly people that get scammed in this way and there are TONS that get scammed out of thousands of dollars and no one is doing anything about it, our government just continues to allow Americans to be victimized by foreigners and it’s just sick!
That dude sure fusses with his gloves bunches.
i feel the scammer that pushed her to do this is the real criminal
We were scammed a few months ago. Took 3 weeks to get the money back. It made me and my husband fight and we never fight about money. I was the victim. He reacted out of panic and said I should have known better. It was awful
They also hacked my phone and email. Had to change my phone number. Facking India scammers pretending to be our bank!!
DUH!
@@diahegge5395you should’ve known better, he is absolutely right
The scammer didn't even wave a gun in her face. She used her own free will (and bad judgement). _She_ -- on the other hand -- threatened the lives of two working women with a firearm(!), over their employer's money. She is the more dangerous criminal.
She need to call those scammers to pay her $100,000 bond.
What a polite and kind cop !!
Whilst i feel sorry for her she put those bank staff in fear for their lives by demanding money at gunpoint, she deserves some form of punishment.
Yea they looked like they were in fear.
They cant help themselves its in their culture
😂😂
Agreed- those scammers are top grade A-holes
Sure is in their culture, scammers are worthless humans.
😭 grandma stood on business to get her money back.
It's definitely sad. She's still wrong but we NEED to do something about scammers.
This case even made it into our biggest daily newspaper today. The police in our country wouldn't have treated the lady so politely, I think it was very appropriate. But robbing a bank is still a very bad idea
Just out of curiosity, what country are you speaking of?
@@AFloridaSon Normally I'm very quickly exposed as German ;)
That Duck Tales t-shirt was very fitting for the situation.
that officer is an absolute Professional Adult who was raised right.
the kind of guy that busts kids and instead of building a forever war with them, sits and explains things to them and shows them the way in life, making it clear they dont have to BE their mistake. id bet.
If she would've went through the proper channels, the FDIC would've reimbursed her up to $250k .
I hope she feels awful for getting her sister involved in all of this also. The sister seems so sweet.
Sister was involved in nothing. She had no part in it, she's not arrested.
@@KennethRJones-SWEN The sister was detained by police for something she didn’t do. She will have to write a statement and potentially be involved in the trial if there is one. She also claims the house belongs to the sister who is getting arrested. She will likely have to figure out her sisters affairs along with helping her sister obtain legal counsel. She may even have to find new housing. At the very minimum, her life has been disrupted by her sisters’ actions. So I repeat one more time for those who can’t think critically; I hope she feels awful for getting her sister involved in all of this.
@@KennethRJones-SWENdid we watch the same video? Her sister opened the gate door to police and immediately feared being shot. She threw her hands in the air and showed her waistband immediately...
If you think this incident wasn't incredibly stressful for her, you may need to consider getting off the internet for awhile because y9uve become blind to the authentic human experience. I'm guessing that if someone ruins your day by getting where u live raided by cops, you'll get it then
@@LetsTalkAboutPrepping I'm sure she knew. They probably had some laughs about it and the sister told her to wear the t-shirt.
This is just sad
Told she was armed. No guns drawn. Wow. This is absolutely ridiculous. Cops need to treat evert criminal the same.
The t-shirt was a dead giveaway.
