Hi Marco! I think it might be worth posting the flesh tones/light and shadow segments as separate UA-cam videos. I remembered you covered flesh tones, but then it took me forever to find because I was searching for skin rendering videos, and it was actually a hidden gem in this much longer series.
I have NEVER clicked so fast on a youtube video before. This is hands down the most informative, cohesive and professional art tutorial on this platform. I dare to say even on the whole internet. I have never felt the surge of knowledge, power and confidence of my skill after hearing such simple phrases like: "Light values are far more important than shadow ones - the shadow can be flat blob of black and it would make no difference in reception of the painting." I almost feel like not sharing this because it seems so... secret and powerful.
You are a brilliant teacher! In just a couple of minutes, you can explain things to a degree others can´t do in hours! And just watching you paint inspires to pick up some brushes (or a tablet) and go do it
Elderscroller yasssss!!!! It makes me not to be so afraid of actually painting my god freakin sketches! Like I just get a surge of confidence in the knowledge I just retained and apply it into my craft and future art. I love love love it!
I just checked out “upisnotjump” and holy cow that dudes speed of talking and content is obnoxious. Started overwhelming me after listening to this very enlightening and calm voice. The dichotomy of how that immediately made me feel dumber, unproductive and stressed out was just too much 😔
Hey all! The UA-cam videos referenced in this video are: *Part 1 of this series:* ua-cam.com/video/gI62rHNtg2w/v-deo.html *Ambient Occlusion and Ambient Light:* ua-cam.com/video/7fLV5ezO64w/v-deo.html *Understanding Shadow Colors:* ua-cam.com/video/gwLQ0cDb4cE/v-deo.html I will be applying the latter two lessons in Part 3. I'll be sure to talk about them there too, but feel free to give yourself a primer with these!
Darn, I had been ignoring this video series because I don't do character designing currently. But this is actually a gem, there is so much valuable information here for making any kind of illustration. Thank you so much!
I think you make the best art tutorials on UA-cam, they are somehow calming and encouraging without forcing one certain opinion. It´s just facts what makes you stand out!
Oh My God. Thank you so so so much. I finally understood how artists use different colours together without creating meaningless art. I was searching for this solution since a decade. I wasted so much time trying to figure out this in colour wheel and colour themes. I never thought that shadows would make such a difference. I'm so grateful to you. Your study and knowledge astounds me.
Best 25:46s of a video I’ve ever spent in a day. Seriously, this feels like I’m learning so much than college classes that I’ve taken. I love this channel from now on I am totally subscribing and will consider becoming a Patreon. Thank you for thinking of us people out here that can’t afford to go back to school or that choose to be self taught. You bring respect back into UA-cam artist, art creators, tutorials. This is really broken down and well thought out, this video seriously gives so much information than the few that I’ve seen. I say that because some videos are soooo wishy washy like they’ll tell you some tips and tricks and call it a lesson. You actually give the full course meal up in here. Wooooo! Okay sorry for that long complimenting and appreciating paragraph. Carry on. 😂😂😂
Just amazing. Bucci's tutorials are top tier. So much quality information presented clearly in a short amount of time. I appreciate the time he must have spent crafting this video. Hyped for part 3
Your explanations are brilliantly clear Marco. I think I know quite a lot about colour but the way you explain it makes it clearer still to me as I'm now more aware of the why. All of your videos are excellent. You're a superb teacher as well as artist. You're right up there with James Gurney. Add in Proko and between you, you're all any student of art techniques/processes needs and uber-inspiring too. Thanks for your work and for sharing your knowledge and expertise..
Bless this man. You teach me how to THINK and learn how to apply so I can learn how to solve my own art problems. Instead of other channels where they just do a tutorial but based solely on their work. Not that I dont appreciate that, but you give a lot of value in your videos. So thank you for what you do!!
You're some man Marco! Your ability to communicate difficult topics with such ease that even a child could understand is testament to how well you know the subject yourself. I learn so much from your videos, thanks so much for taking the time to do these.
I love your teaching method very easy to understand and eliminates any what if questions that pop in my head. You taught me more on life drawing in 2 videos than 2 years of life drawing classes. I was left to my try and figure it out and i never did figure drawing before. I think i would have been further in my abilities if i had a teacher like yourself. Thank you immensely for the work you put into your videos
I wish that I had known your channel before. You are such a passion and comprehensive teacher. You are deserved to get much more subscribers. I’m your big fan now.
Yeeeeesssss! so inspirational, so educating, so creative a superhero in action! and I left this comment before I even look at video because I know it would be mind bending and for all time and for all generations! Thank you Marco!
This is the most up to date video tutorial I have seen. Patiently waiting for part three now! I may even purchase a course or two from you. Amazing stuff in here, Thank you! Please feel free to continue linking your (paid) lessons in your videos so That I have as many options as possible.
Never thought of color in that way. I just used color to define the character and didn't take into account of things like the environment. Your channel is crazy, man!
Thank you for this video. I recently had an awful color fundementals class that I didn't learn anything of what you taught. Learned more in this video then I did in 11 weeks.
I was reading creativity and the campfire yesterday, I'm constantly learning from your lessons and mindset. Thank you Marco. Also Loving this character design series. 😊👍
In film, there are typically three lights. primary, fill and rim. Once I learned that, I started seeing it all the time. It is a fascinating exercise to watch a movie and focus on identifying those three lights in each scene.
at 21:28 you talk about the sun not influencing the light of the shadow... but there's another reason to support the same outcome - what is influencing the lights of the shadow outdoors (sunny day) is that the ambient light comes from the blue dome of the sky, which may be quite faint, but it is a blue light, hence shifting the colors towards cooler tones.
Between yours and Borodantes channels I've gone from not even attempting color out of fear to actually having fun with it and more or less knowing what I'm doing. Now I just need a couple thousand studies from life and I'm good to go.
Thank you for a very informative video, I learnt a lot even though I draw since a kid. I also love that you give examples of great artists in your videos👏
Wow! How simply you explained! Without hiding Your thinking process, amazing! I really enjoyed! Really inspirational! You are my favourite artist! Keep it up...
Hello Marco! Thank you so much for sharing these videos! They are an incredible inspiration and are SO useful! Would you be so kind as to share more precisely the method you use while blocking colors and values? the one where you divide the character into parts and color/tone him? I can't grasp it, but it seems extremely useful!! Thank you so much again!
Who in the world dislikes these vids?? D: these are free professional lessons right here! I don't get why they find this unlikeable. smh Anyways, these lessons are great! I'm learning detailed stuff that my teachers couldn't cover but tried to introduce to us thru activities (which i didn't quite understand back then 😅). Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! >v
Probably people who hate the sponsor. I almost clicked dislike on reflex when I saw wix, but honestly it's such a great series, I manage to look past it
Good video; when will you invoke our heritage *chiaroscuro* including background techniques (sky, clouds, trees, buildings, people), like Gustave Doré, Al Williamson & Alfredo Alcala inking John Buscema, illustrators Henry Bugbee Kane, Francis Lee Jaques, even Rockwell Kent (although he's more stylized)? *1 video showcasing your B&W skills Marco,* including moods like fog, oblique sun angle, night.
Marco, I know this is weird but can you do a brush tutorial. I don't want to ask for the brush you're using but I also cant help but notice how natural it feels
Its funny how "warm" colors come from cooler heat sources than "cool" colors. All this is thanks to the fact the higher energy and "hotter" blue light scatters better through our atmosphere better than the lower energy orange and red light, meaning we associate overcast, colder days with bluer light.
