Yeah, that final version of the mirror scene made me happy that they actually backpedaling with their decision on making James's face entirely shown...
I could understand the creative intention behind the first version, but this just didn't fit James The breathing felt too dramatic and his face not being covered in shadow made it too clear to the viewer Glad they walked back on it, the new version feels perfect, still feels deep and painful, but subtle and confusing at the same time
I initially preferred the first version they had in mind because of how expressive it was. Comparing all 3 versions now, I like the new version more because it's more expressive in a subtle matter and stays more faithful to the original game with the shadows.
Fantastic adjustment in the remake mirror scene - the first time he looks like he's alarmed by how old he looks, while the second he's taken aback by seeing himself shrouded in darkness, which threatens to unlock his repressed memories. A minor moment but a MAJOR improvement in conveying tone and theme.
Exactly this! I was purely skeptical with the teaser trailer version of the mirror scene, but once the final version of the mirror scene is shown, my mind is blown...
I watched the teaser and stopped following the game until it came out. When the game started and I saw the remade James with shadows on his eyes, I realized that they took the remake extremely seriously!
I prefer to see it as, the reveal is showing what he actually is. The final is showing what he sees in the mirror. He’s an older, dirty, pathetic, awful man. He’s been up for days, crying, drinking, trapped in his head. Suffering from a mental break But he sees a monster hiding in the shadows covering his eyes. Fake, mannequin like skin. Faded looking hair. Who is that in the mirror? It doesn’t look like me. That couldn’t be me. Is that even real? Dragging his hand across his face to make sure it’s really him in the mirror The point is that I’m choosing to see it more like what is happening vs what James sees

Love the remake, but man that Reveal Trailer got so much wrong with this scene. Glad they fixed it.

dramatic was right cause he killed his wife moments before at the hotel and put her body under the blanket in his backseat

it does funny tho every horror character has green jacket , ethan winters , sebastian castellanos , joel
They should had kept James original redesign n just darkened the scene and made him less emotional
