Poor oil control on an L98 is the biggest issue with a stock C4 at the track. Long sweepers and hard braking slosh the oil away from the pick-up. The wear is increased on a huge scale, especially if you heal toe to rev match. Get a road course oil pan in the least. I ran 11 events, about 500 laps on a tired 1986 Z51 before the L98 blew at Pitt. Palmer looks like a real fun track, thanks for the vid. Good to see a fellow C4 out there.
Thanks for checking out the video man, I’ve heard that from another enthusiast as well I think maybe I’ll start looking into that. I’ve ran like 4 track days so far and I drive it pretty hard I’d definitely like it to last awhile, for the time being just running 530 synthetic slightly over filled.
I’ve monitored the oil pressure and never dropped so far while turning or braking. Maybe the tires aren’t so grippy. But the oil leaked through the dipstick. The blow by is low (the gauge doesn’t measure any pressure) so I assume it’s because of oil reaching up while turning to the left.
@@rotorblade9508 funny you say that because I noticed a very small leak around the base of the dipstick too but it could also be the fact it an old engine that sat awhile and now it’s being pushed hard
It is a slow progression of wear that brings the death of an engine from no oil control. Probably won't see it coming till the power drops. This video is a great explanation of it, I use one on my LS with a road pan-----> ua-cam.com/video/vyaGoj60A6s/v-deo.html
@@rotorblade9508You can't see the issue by looking at the oil pressure. By the time you see low pressure your engine is already done. The only way to make sure you have uninterrupted oil flow all the time is to a proper oil pan.
That is difference between a American sportscar, and say a german or italian one, you can drive it to race track, race the hell out of it (and win) and then drive it right back home and next day morning to work. No bmw, ferrari or porsche could ever do that for you, but a Corvette can!
I wasn't aware they made sports cars that can't be used as you describe. The German and Italian cars you mention we use like that every day all over Europe. Of course the Corvette has to be able to do the same. I've never taken any of my cars to the track without driving it there and back again. Usually not even do any extra servicing.
Most especially late model and contemporary vehicles from ferrari and porsche certainly won‘t take and survive a serious beating session on track and then be able to be driven back home. Actually they are quite notorious for being heavy on constant issues and maintenance requirements, they are not exactly reliable. If you know cars, then you should know that. @@varmastiko2908
Thanks! Doesn’t need much , change all the fluids and run synthetic power steering fluid, high temp synthetic brake fluid ( I use motul rb600) and some high performance brake pads. Like in the video I’d recommend 1.5 degrees of camber
@@garypiont6114 o I’m sorry about that mis understood. The car on track feels great, very planted and the steering input feels decently precise for its age. You have to drive the car hard before correcting

Very cool ! I have a 85 Z51 car. Will the alignment you show work well for it even though it has a stiff suspension and big sway bars ? (It also has C5 wheels on it . ) I want to get the alignment close because I can't afford to do it over and over. Thanks !
Thanks for watching! Yes I think the 1.5 camber is a perfect happy medium for street and track driving, I was concerned about inner tire wear but the rate of the tires wearing is faster anyways because of track driving so it doesn’t really matter anyways. If it was a full track car I’d recommend even more camber, mine still pushes a bit on long sweepers but it’s a lot better than oem settings
@@morecars324 I agree that's what it's aimed at (the track), I know the 84 was extremely stiff and they loosened it up but I don't know if they anymore after 85 or not. From what I read the 85 Z51 can pull 1 G on turns I still have yet to take it to a track to find the breaking point.

big difference for sure, car still always has a slight plow though ive noticed
