Since I got into the N54 world I've been watching UA-cam content from to many channels. By far I consider this channel the most informative and nutritive for an N54 , how ever I still would like to know exactly why b58 coils and not eldors . Still can't see a diference on the running of the car

The main thing would be to be able to maintain a decent spark gap for daily driving and cold starts and fuel economy but not have it blow out under load at high RPMS. Most people are running stock coils but are closing up the gap to avoid misfires which sacrifices daily drivability but this would only come into play on 500 WHP+ cars IMO.

I gave the video a "like" because I think you put a lot of effort into providing videos that are questions for diy'ers. I personally believe there are so many steps in this kit that can go wrong and cause misfires that your average diy"er would be ill advised to try it. With the exception of the adapter brackets(great design and making use of factory points of connection) it just seems to me to be a possible cause of more problems than it solves. Keep up the good work .

Like he said. There are more benefits than just avoiding misfires. You can gap your plugs to factory specs which gives you better drivability and efficiency without blowing the spark out. And that’s simply because these coils generate significantly mode energy. It’s a known weakness for N54s making big power. All the serious builds are going to these coils, which should tell you all you need to know. No offense to Vehicle Virals.

*update* anyone looking b58 coils on your car be cautious if you opt for Vargas /VTT's kit. I spent $500 thinking their kit was complete and looked great but their wiring harnesses are sketchy at best. When installing i did notice that the wiring harness for my coil 1 had a loose brown wire. I wanted to be safe so i disconnected, inspected, and reconnected again to where it seemed solid. I had it set to oem dwell so it wouldnt tax my dme80 power supply as much but within like 20-30 seconds it stopped running and i started smelling smoke. Coil 1 had melted and caught fire. When i reached out to VTT they tried blaming the oem selection dwell and basically said it was all my fault without offering any real help. Then they told me to pay to ship it back so they could inspect before they might offer me a refund. They took no accountability for their faulty 3d printed connectors and acted like i was some idiot for thinking they shouldnt melt with the oem setting instead of the b58 setting on my tune. Realistically, just glad i took these out and only had a 30amp fuse pop in my dme box. Could have been much worse and was worried this fried my ecu but luckily it didnt.

I'm curious. Does the N54 engine also have the issue with the fuel injector "popping"? Dad's N55 had a Cylinder 2 misfire and it was popping at idle. Under load, there was a consistent thud, inline with the operation of the injector.
Indie claimed it was a seal that went bad and was allowing air through and causing the injector to "jiggle" slightly.
Cost us 800 to fix that. Curious to know if it's easily done in case it happens again

How did they fix it? My n54 injector on cylinder 2 is kinda loose in there and also has a slight jiggle. But to answer your question, I havn’t heard of this being common. @@Garik.e60 The N55 is more or less similar to the N54. Just a change in timings, turbos, and layout, but it's mostly the same.
That said, the indy specializes in German cars so they have a high pay rate. They were also doing some shop renovations and improvements so prices were unfortunately expensive.
This was also at the time when I wasn't comfortable working on my parents cars. When I did my mother's N52 upper gaskets, I started to be more open to working on the N55. Hence why I'm trying to find out more about the injectors and the work needed for the seals.

Fragile? It seems a case of bad lemon. I have +600hp, more than 200000km, a some track days and still like a charm with a normal maintenance.
I only wait that my next car hold on as long as this.

You cant own a high mileage BMW without being a DIYer or suddenly becoming one out of necessity lol. That being said, my 150k mileage n54 running FBO and full ethanol wants to have a word with fragility. Do your belts, pulleys, water pump and overflow, and have an aluminum charge pipe, bam bullet proof.
