Another great advantage is that this can be used on the 535i and 335i x drive which traditionally could not use the VTT shotgun pump due to the size of the power steering pump. Also, since the E series N55 shares the same pump as the n54, we can use the overdrive on those cars as well :)
the line you bend around 14:28 and that stock HPFP -> fuel rail line have similar issues as a result of the manufacturing process/limitations. That why the twisted tuning guys released the high pressure "rubber" (or whatever material it actually is) line to replace it that bends while closer maintaining the same ID (internal diameter) as if it was straight compared to the hard metal lines that definitely suffer losses to the ID in bends. Getting a full replacement kit made for the line you had to bend yourself would be a smart move for Spool Performence to get dialed before the consumer release. I am super hyped on this product, as someone with an XI N54 this is really a game changer since I have been avoiding PI for a while now, but now I am hopeful that I can finally run full E85 with my Pure stage 2+ hi-flows DI only!

I truly appreciate that you took the time to make this video! However what I cannot figure out is what filter am I deleting to add the 10 Micron unit? Yes I have the engine end of the 10 Micron unit coupled on to the metal line under the starter, and I've traced the OEM black braided fuel line down to a mounting plate down near the footwell. Once I figure out how to unplug this original line and plug the white clipped end of the filter line in there, it also leaves questions of how to cleanly install the filter unit. Are people generally leaving it in the engine bay or trying to tuck it beneath?
I appreciate this video. I'm installing the Helix in my driveway but will need to take the low pressure line to a shop that has the vise. Would you estimate a 30° bend out and down or less? Also, does the manifold gasket need to be replaced?
Aren't you supposed to replace the gaskets every time you take the intake manifold off? I'd plan on doing that while I was in there if I was doing this mod.
Your vacuum plate holding up? I noticed your install was prior to the Billet 6061 plate being included with the Helix OD. I'm seeing a supporting block mount is in development as well. Also curious why you didn't go for an inline Fuelabs filter rather than their in-HPFP solution.

Awesome video. First time ive seen this part by a different brand and a nice kit with fikter as well. What WHP do you think is available running full E85, with the 4xhfpf OD kit? Stage 1-2 stock frame TT's?
Sir how much power will you make with the turbos? Ill be buying them soon as well in couple months and this hpfo as soon as its out. How much does this hpfp would run about?
Awesome video, very detailed. I just ordered this kit yesterday so hopefully I’ll be getting it soon. I’m curious about where you mounted the new larger filter though. Is it under the car behind that plastic cover you unbolted? And is a new fuel line necessary since the filter is being added? If so did it come with the kit? Thanks!
bro upgraded his turbos and ran out of fuel , bro you need a upgraded lpfp not hpfp i mean more power to you why not install a upgraded hpfp but jus sayin
I added a helix to my car today and seems to have a rattle that gets quieter when the idle comes down but loud on start up ..do you have this issue too ?
I noticed a slight bit of chatter after installing it that was only there at a specific RPM and actually when my AC was on so I think if it happens to fall at a very specific RPM it could happen but that was after the first day of driving. I've been driving on it for a while now and get no noise at all under any conditions. I think it might have a bit of a break in period. I'd say you should expect the noise to subside completely, if not talk to Spool to get their feedback.
Any updates you are able to share? How many miles have you put on the OD unit? Any issues tuning or with the actual HPFP itself? In the market for one of these. Time will tell!
I've put about 2K miles on it, the tuner did play with the volume control valve tuning to open it up a bit more, pressures were dropping in 4th on the dyno. The HPFP is still working fine, the OD unit works fine also. You get a bit of chatter on first start up until the motor settles down but it goes away after a minute or so. So far so good.
@@VehicularDIY yes eventually. The ones I have are stock only about 15k miles old. They got replaced by BMW. Im running fbo stage 2 fuel it lpfp and mhd. Im limited to about E60 Max due to not having port injection though... An alternative to port injection would be great so I can truly Erin 100% flex fuel
Ease of installation primarily, only if your power goal is north of 700 WHP would I say that port injection would be better but really it's your only choice at that point and you're near the limit of the bottom end. I get your viewpoint but I guess this would be targeted at more of an average consumer that want's less than 600 WHP with upgraded twins vs a single turbo upgrade pushing 750 whp. For the people that want 550 WHP with automatics and upgraded twins this would be easier and safer if they're not looking to break records. BTW I'm trying to provide unbiased advise, I'm not getting affiliate money from this and I paid for this.
Just for future reference, I installed this plumb-back kit from Australian manufacturer TurboSmart www.turbosmartdirect.com/Product-Categories/BMW-Kompact-BOVs/Kompact-Plumb-Back-KIT-BMW.html By far the neatest bolt-on kit on the market - proper formed plumb-back pipes and really good quality units. Designed for the BMW quick-connect standard charge pipe, but I just cut the input pipes down a bit and glued/clamped the silicone pipes from my alloy charge pipe to the bottom of the valves. (Not a shill-link - I just think they're very good)
For example, a bucketed 535 from Precision Raceworks should be able to support ~650WHp (575WHp on 100% E85), so you should be about right for ~600WHp. Just be mindful of the additional power draw (amperage), as the stock EKP may not be up to the task of supporting it for long before overheating. There are cooling mods, upgraded boards to swap to, or an upgraded FPR to utilize (also from PR) to alleviate the added stress onto the EKP.
How’s your hpfp holding up since the install? Also did you ever dyno or retune for the helix OD? Can you share some updates regarding that? Much appreciated and respect ✊
Thanks for update. I just reached out to spool and they’re sending out the billet housing and reinforcement bracket. They mentioned they’ll be sending out to early customers that didn’t initially get that. Be on the look out. Thanks again.

Ok ok ok... okokokokok.... I'M FREAKING OUT HERE!!! :))))))) For real for REAL!! Are you 100% SURE in EVERY POSSIBLE WAY that this will work for an N55 Engine??? I've seen a couple of mentions in the comments affirming this... I have an N55 (bow down to the N54 in terms of power possible for sure, but I'll take reliability over power any day! ;) -- if this kit will work, I would love to be able to use it! Circumventing a port set up seems SO much easier for the option to go E85! My goal is 500 WHP because I still have a stock clutch with my manual tranny. To that end, would you happen to know what the WHP limit would be on a stock manual clutch? I know that the price-per-horsepower increases exponentially as you go up the curve, and I would really not have to be forced to replace the clutch yet with a higher performance version--hell of a job and lots of $$ on parts! My car only has 57k miles on it, so the stock clutch should still have quite a bit of life left. But I was just curious about this in case you had come across the figures--I'd love to take the clutch to its max power-wise! :) Anywho, my stock HPFP is just now starting to go on the fritz--this would be a PERFECT upgrade, and I cannot imagine that the cost would be anywhere near going port, with the need for a whole new manifold, extra injectors, extra tuning/modules, etc. and the added risk of the port tuning being off just enough to blow the engine!! I have several questions: --Will standard injectors work? Any recommendations as to which to get/from whom? --How would this HPFP system work with tuning the AFR on the car? I know you mentioned direct control from the ECU and a couple of valve setting tweaks and pulling out that stock filter in the HPFP to increase flow, but really? Is that it? Would it be that simple--nothing else needed? XD XD --Pros & cons of 1-to-3 vs. 1-to-4 rotation options other than E50 vs. E85 and power gains respectively (if any) --The in-line filter supplied by Spool: is it replaceable/a maintenance item, and as such, can it be mounted under the car in such a way that it remains easily accessible to allow for easier replacement? --I have a FuelIT LPFP upgrade, will this be compatible with it? --And the last is longevity of the HPFP under these new parameters, but I suppose time will tell on that one... I am currently in the process of replacing as many components as possible through FCP to get the lifetime warranty!! This is literally the same as replacing the HPFP alone--pretty much no extra labor, which is just so great! And as a closer, your content is GREAT!! Dude--so informative and the fact that you're taking the risk on these new types of items as a guinea pig is really inspired, helps out the culture SO much! Thanks for what you do and keep it UPPP! ;)
Yeah, I'm on duralast coils as well. I work at AZ and got a good deal on them and I was not just changing one out haha lifetime like he said. Plugs depend on what kind of power you are running and gap depends on fueling etc. I've been running NGK 95770 plugs. What tune are you running?
95770 should do ya fine. I ran those on stage 1 for a while until I got all my stuff together. Wanted to change plugs under maintenance and had a bad coil. So went ahead with 1 step colder to future proof with no issues.
Yeah I do only during warm up, lasts a minute or so and I find the even turning on and off the AC can make enough of a difference in RPM where it goes away. I've asked spook about it, they said it's completely normal and supposedly way more pronounced on the manual cars. It's very mild though and hasn't really been a bother. All my older BMWs with a manual transmission used to have a similar sound nearly all the time, it would go away when you push the clutch in. Might have been the throw out bearing or the input shaft bearing but if you've ever heard that sound I'd say it sounds pretty similar to throw out bearing noise.
@@VehicularDIY ya it does, ok just wanted to make sure it wasnt just mine, it lasts for abour 2 to 3 minutes then goes away. You really hear it when the rpms drop. If you keep alittle on the gas its not as bad
@@VehicularDIY so, I want to buy the helix but I read one guy's account that an embarrassing metallic like sound is present anytime the car is at idle. So, it sounds like his experience is not just cold starts but even after the car has been driven. Not sure if he has MT or Auto trans. I have an AT. It sounds like your car isn't too loud and returns to normal after a couple minutes. Is the sound so noticeable that its embarrassing? Does it come back like if your idling in traffic or at a drive through? Thanks.
Vehicular DIY I was just wondering because I’m on 21 psi on stock dv and charge pipe lol I’m sending them until they fail and I already have replacements ready in the car just in case it happens in Mexico lol
Yeah, he has an upgraded charge. I would definitely change that chargepipe soon running a custom tune. I personally love mi tial blow off. But some people prefer diverter valves to keep it quiet haha
Hey man, a great new idea, I didn't know something like that existed until now, did you consider meth injection for more fueling? It also has advantages of cooling and cleaning the intake valves, but I don't know how much more hp will it give you with the upgraded turbos I installed similar turbos to yours but still MHD stage 2+ and I am not sure the next step for me.. bec6i know to get the most of it I should upgrade the fuel system or go Methanol injection or port injection..
Pity you don't have a 335d version as well. Both excellent bang for buck cars. Annual UK road tax is half the cost of the petrol version on my 335d. £555 yearly petrol to £260 yearly diesel. Then 38 mpg compared to 29 with sensible driving. Would love both myself. 8 grand each.
@@VehicularDIY it would be fantastic on your channel as you could do direct side by side comparisons. Both engines are excellent. Love both the 6 cylinder twin turbo engines. But 98 octane petrol prices here are £6.50 per gallon (4.5 litre). 95 octane petrol is fractionally cheaper. I run a cetane booster in my diesel as well as LUCAS oil upper cylinder lubricant with each full tank filled up. The car goes round to 140mph+ so easily (pity the dials/clocks only show 160 max)

Where to find this part? Can’t see on official web page spool. Can you give direct link on the part ?
Is it true, you may have to lubricate planetary gears? I thought the unit was maintenance free.
Awesome video. First time ive seen this part by a different brand and a nice kit with fikter as well.
What WHP do you think is available running full E85, with the 4xhfpf OD kit? Stage 1-2 stock frame TT's?
Thanks, probably around 450 whp max?
Hi mate, i have a question. You need update the pump inside in the back seat before install this one? Thanks.
That's A lpfp this is a hpfp so would be best doing both
Sir how much power will you make with the turbos? Ill be buying them soon as well in couple months and this hpfo as soon as its out. How much does this hpfp would run about?
I'd say 550 maybe close to 600 WHP.
Does those part will increase the reliability of the HPFP? even with stock power
Really cool to see you do al the upgrades. Just wondering though, aren’t you afraid your gearbox won’t hold up?
Haha yeah I guess I'm ready for it to go, so far so good.
Vehicular DIY Haha ok, so you next video might be: How to rebuild your 6at at home.
Im running flex fuel from motive. How will this benefit. I switched out my short fuel line for the new one with ethanol sensor..
You planning on upgraded turbos?
@@VehicularDIY yes eventually. The ones I have are stock only about 15k miles old. They got replaced by BMW. Im running fbo stage 2 fuel it lpfp and mhd. Im limited to about E60 Max due to not having port injection though... An alternative to port injection would be great so I can truly Erin 100% flex fuel
What makes this different than VTT's Shotgun or dbl barrel kit? Which Port Injection has been proven to be better then.
Off topic, where is the oem fuel filter located and is it replaceable? Is it a Maintenance item?
Right before the hpfp and no it is not
Did this kit effective and has there been any issues with it to date?
Wow. That's great news!
Just for future reference, I installed this plumb-back kit from Australian manufacturer TurboSmart
www.turbosmartdirect.com/Product-Categories/BMW-Kompact-BOVs/Kompact-Plumb-Back-KIT-BMW.html
By far the neatest bolt-on kit on the market - proper formed plumb-back pipes and really good quality units. Designed for the BMW quick-connect standard charge pipe, but I just cut the input pipes down a bit and glued/clamped the silicone pipes from my alloy charge pipe to the bottom of the valves. (Not a shill-link - I just think they're very good)
Will this work on an automatic 335i xdrive.?
Does anyone know if A single Walboro 525 alongside a helix overdrive would give me enough fuel for 600 hp on 19t turbos? Or do I need a bigger lpfp
Any update for this? Trying to decide between the 3x and 4x!
Still have it, I'd go 3x if your power goals aren't too high.
Okay I went to spoolstreet to purchase this and can’t find it. Is this not available yet ?
no its not been released yet. soon hopefully!
How’s your hpfp holding up since the install? Also did you ever dyno or retune for the helix OD? Can you share some updates regarding that? Much appreciated and respect ✊
It's surviving so far, have about 3K miles on the helix. Yes I dynoed at around 540 whp.
Thanks for update. I just reached out to spool and they’re sending out the billet housing and reinforcement bracket. They mentioned they’ll be sending out to early customers that didn’t initially get that. Be on the look out. Thanks again.
Which one u recommend Helix overdrive or PI?
Is this works the same with like a fuel it lphp upgrade? Do both stackable for even more fueling?
Yeah you would upgraded your LPFP first and use this on top.
@@VehicularDIY so yours is upgraded? Or it can be installed on the original LPFP?
What actually goes wrong with the original pump? A washer? A seal? Shaft play? Bearings?
Between this dude and m539_restorations I’m getting my bmw fix
Will work on E series N55's before 03/12 as well.
You should be able to take a peek at what pump you have with a flash light and maybe moving some plastic away. Search for images on both pumps and compare. I have the F series hpfp on my 2013 E92 N55.
“K so that clip went flying and I don’t feel like finding it rn” me 💀🤣
Great video. Is this process the same for the n55 e90?

Your videos are really top notch. Thank you for taking the time to put this together! You are definitely putting out a level of content well beyond your current subscriber count. I wish you many new subscribers!
Do you have to replace the intake gaskets every time you remove it?
If intake gaskets are good, they shouldn't be replaced. BMW says that they are reusable to some extent.
any problems with this so far?
Ok ok ok... okokokokok....
Anywho, my stock HPFP is just now starting to go on the fritz--this would be a PERFECT upgrade, and I cannot imagine that the cost would be anywhere near going port, with the need for a whole new manifold, extra injectors, extra tuning/modules, etc.
and the added risk of the port tuning being off just enough to blow the engine!!
I have several questions:
--Will standard injectors work?
Any recommendations as to which to get/from whom?
--How would this HPFP system work with tuning the AFR on the car? I know you mentioned direct control from the ECU and a couple of valve setting tweaks and pulling out that stock filter in the HPFP to increase flow, but really? Is that it? Would it be that simple--nothing else needed? XD XD
--Pros & cons of 1-to-3 vs. 1-to-4 rotation options other than E50 vs. E85 and power gains respectively (if any)
--The in-line filter supplied by Spool: is it replaceable/a maintenance item, and as such, can it be mounted under the car in such a way that it remains easily accessible to allow for easier replacement?
--I have a FuelIT LPFP upgrade, will this be compatible with it?
--And the last is longevity of the HPFP under these new parameters, but I suppose time will tell on that one...
I am currently in the process of replacing as many components as possible through FCP to get the lifetime warranty!! This is literally the same as replacing the HPFP alone--pretty much no extra labor, which is just so great!
And as a closer, your content is GREAT!! Dude--so informative and the fact that you're taking the risk on these new types of items as a guinea pig is really inspired, helps out the culture SO much! Thanks for what you do and keep it UPPP! ;)
What year is your N55, the early N55s shared the same pump as the N54 so it could work on your car.
@@VehicularDIY 2011
Hopefully something comes out for 2013+ N55s that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
As of this stage of upgrades so far.. what ignition coils are you running?
I've on a set of Duralast stock type coils, lifetime warranty. If I need to upgrade I'll probably look into a set from Spool.
Wow all that power on AZ coils. Plugs stock or 1 or 2 step colder? About to start tuning my car and was wanting to change the plugs and coils
Yeah, I'm on duralast coils as well. I work at AZ and got a good deal on them and I was not just changing one out haha lifetime like he said. Plugs depend on what kind of power you are running and gap depends on fueling etc. I've been running NGK 95770 plugs. What tune are you running?
Just doing MHD 1+ till I get the downpipes and intercooler then 2+
95770 should do ya fine. I ran those on stage 1 for a while until I got all my stuff together. Wanted to change plugs under maintenance and had a bad coil. So went ahead with 1 step colder to future proof with no issues.
What's the cost going to be for this overdrive compared to the P.I. system?
It should come in under the cost for a basic PI system. Once you factor in the controller, and injectors and spacer etc.
Nice! Plus less to fail.
N54POWER😁👌
Does your helix sound like a diesel when you start your car then go away?
Thanks.
Hi, how has this HPFP worked out for you?
I hope this will work with AWD models since the double barrel shotgun mod doesn't work with XI/xDrive.
Yeah it does work with XI models.
@@VehicularDIY FINALLY we're not left out. Full E85 here I come!
How much boost are you running on stock diverter valves?
I have them at 25 psi which is their limit. Changing them out this weekend. So far they hold fine at 25 PSI but they sound stressed lol.
I dont think that the hpfp is designed to go faster then it was designed to . but we will see .
will they have this available for the 2011 F10 N55 as well?
I believe this fits an early N55 up until some time in 2012.
Hey man, a great new idea, I didn't know something like that existed until now, did you consider meth injection for more fueling? It also has advantages of cooling and cleaning the intake valves, but I don't know how much more hp will it give you with the upgraded turbos
I installed similar turbos to yours but still MHD stage 2+ and I am not sure the next step for me.. bec6i know to get the most of it I should upgrade the fuel system or go Methanol injection or port injection..
Yeah I've heard good things about meth injection, for now not sure I'd need it with my power goals.
Yeah a 335d is quite the unicorn car here in the US. Most diesel vehicles here are pickup trucks.
I paid £300 tax this year for my 335d, how are you managing 260?
P.s. I totally agree about VehicularDIY having a 335d, would be brill. Struggling to find quality content covering the M57n2!!
@@AACBrit my first 335d was 300 a year it was on a 56 plate. The slightly older ones are more expensive per year to tax
Love your video man if I live near you I’ll pay for you work on my e92👍
