    There are way too many people that comment out of their unhappiness in order to make others upset. You are doing a great job and if that individual ever had a garden they would know that this is normal this time of year. I wish that people were more kind and would mind their own business.❤ we appreciate you being real. Hope the baby goats are doing well

    The person who made the clean up your garden doesn’t have a homestead. They probably have little gardens and don’t have the things a homesteader has to do. Some folks need to watch their comments. I have the same going on here on our homestead. Your garden is much more productive than ours now. We Live here in Texas and ours is almost done. I love your garden. I don’t see the weeds I see the beautiful flowers and plants!!!! And now getting ready for our lamancha Sugar is going to have a baby in November. Have to add 2 extra birth houses to my other stalls. We are repairs and painting house and the work never stops. I am always proud of you and what you do and how you do it!!!!

    They probably don't even have a garden let alone a farm. Some people think a garden is a one time thing per year. They can't understand that other people grow their gardens year round if they can.

    After years of trying to keep a perfect garden, house, yard etc, I have found it does not really matter. I planted a hill of cantaloupe in a space that I know will be a jungle. My husband told me I was wasting my time. I got more cantaloupe than we could eat. Lol point proved. Everyone else I knew that had theirs in a spot with no weeds and they did not do well. I believe the weeds shaded the plants from the extra hot sun and the weeds helped retain moisture. It was a hot dry summer.

In response to the mean comment that your garden looks like a jungle I think your garden is beautiful. I personally am amazed at how much you accomplish. Having lots of kids both go kids and real kids, and such a beautiful garden along with all the baking and preserving you do is quite impressive. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Thank you for being real. Wish I could meet you in person someday.

    Formal tidy gardens are lovely, but they are somewhere you visit, not live in. Someone once made a sarky comment about my laundry pile many years ago when I had 17 horses. Asked me if I felt bad about it. Why yes, as I lie on my death bed, I'm sure my last thought is going to be about how devastated I am that I'm still being judged about my laundry pile. Perhaps I'll have to add my rather messy October garden to the list now too 😒🤣

  • @caliBornbEauty
    @caliBornbEauty Рік тому +4

    I really hope the judgmental people who tell you to do things differently have perfectly manicured gardens and perfectly cleaned homes. It's so strange to me that people see filters and fakeness all over social media when their own home isn't perfect. I just don't get it. It's ugly out there but your homestead is beautifully messy and REAL. I appreciate that much more than perfection as I sit in my imperfectly real and sometimes messy home. Thank you for sharing your reality Heather. Blessings to you and your family

    I cannot believe the nerve of some people that you have to explain yourself and what you decide to do with your garden just because they are rude and unkind. You are generous enough to share part of your life with us strangers and brighten our days with a bit of farm and homesteading life and you are free to decide what you do with your place. Also, you never know what happens to people off camera, maybe you decided you needed a week off or you are going through some stuff or it Is normal for you to állow a little mess just because

    I adore the wild Autumn gardening spaces! The flowers (marigold and zinnia?) still blooming, some plants pushing to produce flowers and fruit before Winter arrives is glorious! And the "neglected lane" is beautifully hopeful and proof that even a space that gets less attention (David the Good calls it "lazy gardening") can still be fruitful. Wondering if any of the buggy/past their prime veggies would be good for your rabbits? I know my pet rabbit enjoys a lot of greens from our garden (tops from radish, turnip, carrot mostly) but he enjoys dried sweet potato as a treat, too. Don't know about the squash or cucumber... The information about the root veggies really makes sense! There have been some years we didn't really know why we had tiny roots (radishes, mostly) but come to think of it - probably was "too warm" for them. The brassica flowers are lovely - we always let one or two intentionally go to seed each year just for the additional pollinator support and adding pops of white and yellow to the garden when so much appears to be turning brown. I always find it odd that someone tells another that they need to clean up something when they do not even know what else is going on in that person's life or understand there is so much to be said for the wild things. Not knocking the tidy gardens by any means - my honey tends to pull out annuals before they get too untidy-looking and I love to let them just "do their thing". My asparagus bed looks crazy "unkempt", but I LOVE it! I have dwarf zinnias and bachelor buttons blooming on the outside of the bed along with a large clump of lemon balm (affectionaltely called "Lemon Bomb" by us) on the end of the row.

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  Рік тому +2

    I think anyone who comments to someone else to clean up their garden (or their home or basically TELL them to do stuff), needs to be willing to physically come over and help. If they paid any attention at all they'd know you have been super busy, you homeschool 4 kids, have lots of garden spaces, lots of animals, AND you have been ill some too. Sheesh. If they want perfectly kept gardens to look at they can get a subscription to Fine Gardening magazine lol. (I had to google to find a fancy named gardening magazine haha.) I happen to think your garden areas are fabulous and show what real homestead gardens look like from start to finish! Realistic for many of us who have very busy lives and helps us have an idea what to expect to be able to do. Yes, I have seen other YT'ers with seemingly extremely well kept gardens but I honestly question if they do it all alone. *continues to grumble and be cranky on your behalf hahaha* ANYWAYS! Great video Heather, thank you as always for taking the time to share your spaces and your thoughts with us. I think it is amazing how some areas are starting to producing more new stuff even at this late date. Win-win no matter what, even if they can't be eaten/preserved for the family, they can go to the animals/compost, etc.

There's only so much time in the day, and plenty of other things to prioritize depending on the season.

    No. She was a rescue. Didn’t know she was bred until seeing the signs. So I am guessing November ish. Since I got her in June. She was so sad looking when I got her but now after being on our homestead she is thriving well. I also got another rescue about 3 weeks ago. We named her Daisy- she’s a Nubian/alpine. She was so malnourished and weak. But now with my molasses drink I give them when they are like this has kicked started her and she is now thriving on the farm. My guy that I sell to found her and brought her to me. He said if you can’t help her nobody can. Daisy is part of the fam now and doing great. I just don’t understand how some people can treat these beautiful God givin creature’s this way 😢. I’m so glad I have her now. Sugar on the other hand was in a pen of Nigerian bucks so can’t wait to see little ones. So far I think she is going to have 2.

    Hi Heather, I love your videos!!! I have a question for you. This was my first time using weed barrier. I noticed in your squash trellis area and in your greenhouse you have weed barrier. My question, how do I amend my soil for next year? This year for my Fall garden, sparse as it is, lol, I just took out some soil and plopped in some compost in the hole, then planted my greens. Can I do the same thing next Spring? Or do I need to lift the fabric and amend EVERYTHING. I loved the fabric This year, it really kept the weeds at bay. Thank you for posting such great "teaching" videos. ❤

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  Рік тому +2

      I have done both..I've peeled back the fabric and fully amended and I've also just amended the planting holes. Both work! Be mindful about not planting heavy feeding plants one right after the other and it should work well, we have alternated heavy feeding plants with nitrogen fixers like beans and had success! Watch your plants though and they'll tell you what they need!
