Jim is so unique because he can really humble himself, drop the big star ego, and really do the sketches the way they were meant to, then do his own comedy on other bits that are himself: stand up and movies and such.
I can remember watching this when it aired like it was yesterday. I nearly pissed myself laughing when Carrey popped up behind the singing guy. Classic.

If you look up photos of the film, you may notice a slight resemblance, unintentional as it was, to Conan.

They starting doing it in the 90s and just kept going even though it was no longer the future but the past.
