When I was a kid in the 80's all I would ever hear from older guys were three names: Maradona, Gullit and Rummenigge. I hadn't even seen them but the names were ever present. For kids like me, they were legendary mythological creatures. Now I know why. Gullit was probably the most gifted player when it comes to allround skill and ability. Not as legendary as Madonna but a better player overall. There was nothing he couldn't do. Name any player and you can name a couple of things they can't do or positions they can't play. But Gullit ticks all the boxes. One of a kind.
He's my favourite player of all time and the reason why support Milan to this day. He was so graceful to watch. I don't think their has been a player as versatile as he was since (if memory serves me right, he even had the gloves at some point in a game).

he play in an era when defender was tough and very rough... defender not as skillful in ball keeping like today, but often dont hesitant to hurt opponent to stop them... this is an era when goalkeeper can catch a backpass from his teammate... scoring goal is far more difficult those day... a defender friendly era... player like messi and CR7 have priviledge to play in attacker friendly era... you put both of them in Gullit and Maradona era, and you'll found their number decrease drastically...
The puma with lion heart.. Gullit. Probably because he makes football seem so easy, with this incredible flexible athletic body, so smooth, so relaxed, so magical... he didn't get the full appreciation he deserves. He DID work very hard, in and outside the field. Thanks for sharing this content !

Gullit 87-88 was absolutely a monster. AC Milan that season won the league because of his great performance. Even if he played in a different position his career was similar to Ronaldo fenomeno. Both before the injury were almost unstoppable.
For most who don't know, he devolved a lot of money for charity. He was a leader and a huge champ in and out the pitch. We need more people like him. Forever respect.
When he came here in England to play and then managed Chelsea, he was never given the respect that he deserved, this is a man that not only won trophies with various elite European clubs, he won his country (Netherlands) their first-ever trophy! This is an ultimate all-round skilful player, his treatment here in England was shocking 😡
@@BigBoss-mp1jz and @K K is that Gullit was the manager of Chelsea but, then he was sacked by the former boss of Chelsea because he *Mistakenly* thought Gullit was partying too much.
Ruud Gulit is one of the best player so far I have seen his ball play position. Superb player. We have missed his play very early. His Golden days are memorable for us.
A complete player is that who has the capability to take the maximum load of the team. In his time GULIT was such a player who had played from defence to offence all on a sudden to take the ball position and was working hard for his team. Ball position at any angle for coverting goals were awsome.👌 After all, I can't believe the comparison of the players. But every legend players are the best in their time. So Ruud Gulit was the best player in his time and a cmplete player for the time till football last.
Watching this brings back a lot of memories for me. I was only introduced to Gullit during the 1990 world cup. I was mesmorized watching while living in Vienna at the time. I was only a teenager. Do you remember that the musical group The Specials had a song that was played as an anthem to Ruud at the time. Time goes too fast. Respect. Cheers.
One of the most under appreciated footballers of all time !!! There is a reason why AC Milan of the time was possibly the greatest team ever and that Holland of Euro ‘88 remains their only international trophy. A big part is Ruud Gullit. The most complete footballer I ever saw along with Van Basten of the era and not to mention Rijkaard. Apart from GK, which he probably would have been good at anyway, any position on the pitch he was deployed he was the best player on the park ! Tall, strong, past, technical, acrobatic, both feet, set pieces, headers, dribbling, goal scoring, passing, defending, he had it all !
I never get to hear him before... 😶😮🤯 Till I saw his new look and gosh I know him, I seen him as manager but not as player Best of speed Surgical passes/Assit God of Header and chips Powerful strikes Best at dribbling
A complete player. Shooting, passing, headers, dribbling, elegant ball control, intelligent play. I completely agree with what the title of this video suggests. Gullit, an extraordinary player of the 80s who, I feel, is severely underrated and underappreciated, given the presence of more popular players in that era. It is sad that the modern day fanboys know zilch about such geniuses and harbor low regards for them. A sorry state of affairs - modern footballing idols and their pretentious fanatics.
it goes the other way around too: the game sometimes itwas a joke back then, now players are trained like robots and tactics are much better. Harder to shine in a consistent basis.
*CR7 and Messi fans triggered* lmao Most People unfortunatly only know him because of Fifa. Because of the insane Card that he is. Was he like that in real Football? Hell yeah. Remember seeing him for the first time in Euro '88. That Dutch team just seemed so much better than anything I had seen before, with players truly able to play in so many positions. They didn't always play well, but the quality of each player from front to back was evident. Who he is or isn't better than isn't important. He was just a fantastic player, and more importantly he is was so very smart, particularly in how he trusted his teammates to do the work sometimes so he could start making runs expecting them to retrieve the ball. That confidence is impossible to teach.
Best player I'v ever seen live by a million miles and it was when he was getting older at Chelsea against my team so no bias. Playing sweeper, unbelievable. And I'v seen Cristiano Ronaldo live a few times, not a patch on the Ruud boy.
He was a beast and still is genuine nice guy.. he remembers his matches against Maradona as his finest memories. He was fysical the best alround football Player. An athlete in a football jersey. His présence on the pitch was almost feral..
Thanks for this great reminder! It takes me back to when I'd watch him and think he looked like a giant on the pitch both in stature and ability. Like the teacher joining in a kickabout with the children. 100% agree with the title of the video.
Ruud was my favorite player as a kid. He was magical on and off the ball. There aren't players like him anymore that can play several positions and at a world class level
A legend in my mind had a privilege to live in Italy in the late 80sand watch him play for AC Milan unstoppable force the pace and soccer iq cannon off a shot and nobody was better in his time when it came to headers .Gullit VanBasten and Rajjkard till this day the best trio to play the game too bad they only won the 88 euros should have been more at least one world cup. I am Polish but I always cheer for Holland mainly because off those three. But there is so much more since then that came out off Holland ; Davids, Seadorff ,Berkamp, Klujvert, Shnider, Van NIsterlroy,VanPersie Robben the list goes on that country knows how to produce world class players. Watch out for them in the future they just qualified for euros quite easily undefided.
Serie A from the mid 80's to the early 90's was the most overpowered league maybe ever. There have never been so many great players all together in one league. I always say if you stood out there at that time you were an all time great. Platini, Zico, Maradona, Socrates, Falcao, the Milan trio, Mancini and Vialli at Samp, Baggio, Laudrup and it just goes on and that's without mentioning the list of great defenders which could be even longer.
Wow! In athletic terms - the ultimate pentathlete! A rare and gifted footballer who likely cannot be compared to anyone else because of his multi-dimensional skill, talent and ability - correct to almost say, an enigma. And this is the first footage I have seen of him!! Will the all-rounder please step forward - Gullit!!!
Gullit was the most complete player to play football. Play him CB he will keep a clean sheet. Play him CM he'll get an assist. Play him ST he'll score a goal. Legend.
For an amazing player like his is he is very humble as well. Even today he says that if he saw Van Basten in front of goal he'd rather give the ball to Van Basten because he'd be sure it was a goal then. Some in the comments rate the finishing skill of Gullit, but he saw a better finisher in Van Basten. Great attitude. If you see him on tv now he is joking etc a lot. Very relaxed man. Always nice to hear him talk, see what he has to say and listen to his words. Great man =)

And now Messi is the best goal scorer, best playmaker, best free kick taker, best dribbler, one of the best passer if not the best, etc in the world.

He is the most powerful midfielder ever. Unbelievable speed, quickness, and dynamism.
I was watching a football match the other day when my father came and sat next to me and said, "only two players ever made my jaw drop. Diego Maradona and Ruud Gullit". And I was like who is this Gullit guy. Well, now I know.
Thats true
He was good but never Maradona
Rip maradona 🥺🥺
They both were Ronaldo and Messi of that era....
Gullit -> Ronaldo
Maradona -> Messi
The epitome of complete player. Legendary Dutch Trio of Ac Milan
he play in an era when defender was tough and very rough... defender not as skillful in ball keeping like today, but often dont hesitant to hurt opponent to stop them... this is an era when goalkeeper can catch a backpass from his teammate... scoring goal is far more difficult those day... a defender friendly era...
player like messi and CR7 have priviledge to play in attacker friendly era... you put both of them in Gullit and Maradona era, and you'll found their number decrease drastically...
10:54 what a pass and dipping goals
I remember seeing him play when I was a kid. One thing that really stood out was the accuracy of his crosses.

Ball position at any angle for coverting goals were awsome.👌
After all, I can't believe the comparison of the players.
Respect. Cheers.
Forget comparing him to Messi Ronaldo,he was a brilliant player and so versatile in positions.
We don't see soccer players like Gullit today. He was a genius.
Simply the best ever, the unpredictable, unbelievable unparallel, romantic, Rudd, one of a kind, he was magical, the storm
Love how hes a 101 on fifa mobile. Hes really good
I never get to hear him before... 😶😮🤯 Till I saw his new look and gosh I know him, I seen him as manager but not as player
Best of speed
Surgical passes/Assit
God of Header and chips
Powerful strikes
Best at dribbling
Can anybody explain to me what he just said
Neymar in that era would be the GOAT ..

If someone asks me who is the most complete player I have watched, the answer will be RUUD GULLIT. What a player he was...
I loved watching him playing as right wing....his accelerations were simply fantastic. Miss those times.
Truly a complete player, glad i was able to witness his greatness..
DT: cuál es tu posición?
Gullit: yo juego al fulvo.
Man, I am soooo glad I found this channel

Amazing player...one of the best I've ever seen. Left; right; up; down; totally skillful; strong and brave...nobody could stop him!!!
Ruud was my favorite player as a kid. He was magical on and off the ball. There aren't players like him anymore that can play several positions and at a world class level
Gullit e Marco van Basten foram feras!
Com Rijkaard também...
You guys have said it all, I was a kid and watching him I became a supporter of The Netherlands. Greetings from Albania.
But there is so much more since then that came out off Holland ; Davids, Seadorff ,Berkamp, Klujvert, Shnider,
Van NIsterlroy,VanPersie Robben the list goes on that country knows how to produce world class players.
And now van dijk, de Ligt, de jong just to name a few
Gulit used to play box to box ... after Maradona, I used to like him and still do. And what a hair style!
What a treat to watch. Complete is an understatement.
It’s weird to see how much football has changed since then
Then were real men
Gullit was the most complete player to play football.
Great man =)
No final como cristo redentor eu aplaudi, que jogador senhores cheguei a chorar vendo esse video. Sem palavras! Gullit ❤
