One of the best tutorials I've seen, and you make the whole process look easy. Looking forward to making my own in the coming days. Thank you for this.
@@jacoba1429 Hearthlight is a game in the Northeast with almost identical rules to Dagorhir. I do 4 or 5 passes of plastidip, which usually totals 2 cans. Hope this helps!
Unfortunately I didn't get it from a supplier, a friend had a large piece that I bought. It's called corrugated plastic, but you could also use 3/8” plywood
Hello from Amtgard. I am using this tutorial to make a shield for my high level orders.

Absolutely STUNNING looking shield. I'm getting started on this ASAP. What's your Amtgard name ?
Thanks so much, I'm really glad you like the shield. I mainly do Dagorhir and Hearthlight these days, but I'm looking forward to seeing what you make!
@@alterdarren hearthlight? Never heard of that.
Also how many passes of the Plasti Dip do you do. I can't imagine just one

This is a great tutorial where do you get your core materials if you don't mind my asking
Unfortunately I didn't get it from a supplier, a friend had a large piece that I bought. It's called corrugated plastic, but you could also use 3/8” plywood
What square footage did this one end up being?
I don't know exactly since the shield is oval, but the greatest width is 2' and the greatest height is 3'. Hope this helps!
@alterdarren yep that helps a lot. You can probably get a rough estimate with the area of an elipse.
Great video, how many coats of varnish do you recommend?
I used 5 coats, spread evenly
@@alterdarren awesome thanks. How soon after painting with acrylic do you usually wait to do the clear coats?
@@DadBodShaman sure thing, if you wait about an hour it should be fine
What thickness EVA foam are you using?
I don't remember exactly, but it was the thinnest 4 lb eva foam they had. Probably about 2-3 mm thick or so
Did you paint it all at once with the plastidip or did you do multiple coats?
I did multiple coats of plastidip until the foam was opaquely black
@@alterdarren thank you! one more question! What glue did you use to attach the foam?
@@lincolnpearce6876 I used dap weldwood contact cement
@@alterdarren thank you!
How heavy is it?!
This one came out at 4.5 pounds, feels quite light on the shoulder
@@alterdarrenthat is a good deal heavier than a historical wood "vikingage" shield of that size... even with a metal boss.
But it do look great.
