  • Part of the team that started the Nepal biogas program, under DCS (Development and Consulting Services) of UMN (United mission to Nepal) from 1977 to 1984. Director of GGC (Gobar Gas Company), started the development of the domestic biogas plant design of which 300,000 have been built in Nepal.
    Wrote "Biomass: Challenges and Experience in Nepal" with John Finlay, Mamie Lau Wong and Andrew Bulmer (1985) United Mission to Nepal; "Running a biogas programme: a handbook (1988) Practical Action Pubs; "Small-scale rural biogas digesters" (to be published - 2014) Practical Action Pubs.
    Returned to UK to do PhD in Engineering (Thermo-fluids), then taught on MSc course on Renewable Energy at University of Reading from 1988 to 2008, concentrating on biomass energy systems. Left to set up Kingdom Bioenergy Ltd, an independent consulting company. Trustee of Foundation SKG Sangha, a charitable company registered in UK to encourage biogas extension.
    Assessor for Ashden, UK charity who give awards for best renewable energy projects in world. Did mid-term evaluation for UNDP funded biogas project in Nepal in 1991; performed evaluation of SNV Nepal and Asia biogas program in 2012.
    Researched small-scale two-stage biogas digestion for food wastes with Bioplex Ltd; designed 3 tonne-a-day food waste biogas digester, now built in CMC Vellore.
