Rob we all watch because we like like you, I bet we would watch a cooking with Rob Arnold video if you made it. What's cool about you is your basically the opposite of most UA-camrs. We get to, in a way hangout with a guitar player we listened to for years . And awesomely your totally down to earth and cool..
I really appreciate that man, and I'm grateful to have guys like you tuning in enjoying all I'm doing! What you said means a lot! 👊🤘🙏
@@RobArnoldWorld other than my 2 sons ... Rob Arnold is the only man I stare at 2-4 Hours a day. LOL!!!!
IM NOT BI 💀😭

Guitar player, but my wife bought me this same bass for my birthday for tracking. Doesn’t get much love but does play nice.
This bass is amazing! I have the five-string version and it's my main bass. I got in Drop A. I also have a red LTD B-154DX in Drop C. ESP is just the best.
Hell yeah! I'll bet the 5 string is a BEAST! 🐲🤘
Fancy you thinking about your belly when you was filming this video. Really liked this bass string change. I played the bass for two and It's not an easy thing to play when you first start off. As for changing the stings. I think that I may of only done that about three times.
Great video. Always enjoy your restringing videos 🎸
Thanks man, and I appreciate you tuning in!👊🎸
Hellyeah. More Shop Talk videos!!! Bad ass bass on the bench? Yes. Enjoy the restrings and the simple banter. Just hanging out. Very few still test 9v batteries they way we do. Thanks Professor! HMOE!
Thanks Rick! Always a pleasure hearing from you bro, and knowing you're enjoying the vids! HMOE!👊🔋
Love this format man, thanks for sharing. Really got me thinking about picking up a bass to play around on for a bit of fun 🤔
Right on brother!🤘
I’m addicted to these restring /setup videos
I'm happy to feed that addiction! 🤘😝
Great vid man. I play bass for this band and was stoked you ended up doing a bass video. Love hearing you shoot the shit about music and equipment too. Would love to hear some band and touring stories sometime.
👊
Guitar set ups are my
Favorite videos. That and watching a Plummer, unclogging a drain.🤘🏻🤘🏻
Ha! Awesome! 🪠🤘
Makes me want to change all my sets of strings!
Nice one
Mission accomplished!🎸
26:37 26:39 I hate those 9-volt connections. My Schecter just has a drop in connection. Play some Helmet-Unsung.😊
That's what I use too (SJ 105-45). Fricken amazing
Right on!🎸
Love the video man. The string changing vids are amongst my favs, but I must admit, I'd be down for a cooking with Rob video as well... Keep up the great work. Metal on my friend
Happy to hear it brother!👊 And if I were ever to create a second channel, it would definitely be a cooking channel! I'd be honored to have you as my first sub!
Commenting because I'm a bass player 😄. I use 45-105 in standard. I used a 50-120 balanced tension set in drop C for a bit. Just personal taste.
Glad you made this video. I've been meaning to change the strings on my bass for a bit and the video is the kick I needed.
Mission accomplished!
Bassist here! I play a 2007 Ltd f405fm with the tribal inlay. Sansamp into a Peavey tour 450 head then out to a ashdown 8x10. Played in various local groove/thrash/grind metal bands \m/
Sounds like a mighty rig!💪
Sweet bass! I started playing bass when I was 13 years old then kinda moved onto guitar as my main instrument later on in my early 20s(in my late 20s now). I still love bass but I just find guitar more fun and satisfying to play. If a kickass band invited me to play bass for them I wouldn't say no though.
I hear that!
Always love ur restringings Roberto
I appreciate that dog! 👊
I dig these videos. Cool vibes. Just chillin with Rob doing some guitar maintenance 👍
This video has a full range of emotions.
Comedy- I wasn’t expecting to hear about a roast in a re-string vid 😆
Suspense- ‘what the F!’ Power nearly went out.
Terror- something you really wanna keep nearly got cut off!
BTW- this 4 string bass has 5 knobs?
2 volume. 2 tone…. And 1 ‘Whoop ass’ knob? 🤣🤣🤣
The knobs are Volume, Balance and a 3 bands EQ, pretty common layout for a bass !
Totally agree
@@pideuhweuh8459 👍
Haha thank you Todd! We'll see if it eventually brings me an Academy Award! Or at least a nomination! 🤘🤣
Just joined a band that hasn’t had a bassplayer for 12 years. I uset to play guitar, but for the last 10 years I barely touched any of my guitars. Playing bass is awesome! Im a much better bassplayer than guitarist :)
Gotta get in where you fit in!
Now this is my first love!
Rather than little league I was forced to learn bass (and drums) starting in ‘71 when I was about 5.
Love guitar a lot but more just out of love and pursuit, and only played rhythm in one band in the early 90’s, but always bass, so I’m digging this video.
I might be in an oddball category when it comes to strings, as in I like different sizes and brands for different things. I set up individual basses for specific things, and have preferences for each.
For my fretless I like Fender heavy flats, for my 5 string I like heavy DR Fat Beams, for my 6 it’s medium heavy Black Beauties, and for my 4 string Jazz it’s medium Black Beauties.
If I ever get around to building a new 4 string, I’ll set it up with some old school tape wounds like my mothers ‘66 Vox Apollo, which at 75 years old she still plays!
It might be an odd way to achieve different vibes and sounds in the age of superior electronics, but it saves me from having to try and electronically manipulate one instrument into many hats.
Great video Rob,
Modding and maintenance is one of life’s secret little pleasures, for those that haven’t discovered it yet.🤘🏻
Amen brother!🤘🎸
@@RobArnoldWorld sorry bro,
I’m not even 60 yet, but starting to find myself rambling nowadays. Especially about things I really love!😆
@@Daddy53751 No worries! Speak on it brother!
SUP Rob Ross!
This made my day! You better believe I play bass!
Ltd make a stellar instrument. No i have never played their bass, i tried out their guitar, which are incredible - i bet their basses are straight sick! The frank bello and surveyor ones especially catch my eye! Yours sounds super! This one sounds good also.
Now, i always keep the old strings to tell where to clip the new ones! Less forgiving than stringing a guitar!
I do sometimes try tuning naked, i can get pretty close. bass is more tricky with this because the human ear naturally picks up higher pitch easier.
Def make a cooking video! I dig cooking! I have been getting into deep frying things and bbq!
I love the palm muting, this is the secret weapon of a pick player. This is an Ellefson signature.
The new strings sound good, are they stainless steel?
Thank you for another video!
Have a killer metal week!
Keep brring and denging 🤘😡🤘
Haha right bro! Keeping the old string for a quick comparison is a GREAT tip!
These Strngjoys I installed are nickel round wound. 👌
You talking about the roast reminded me of Randy Marsh talking passionately about food 🙂 Remember the food hotline phone call? 😄
🤘🤣 I'm an enormous SP fan, but I don't recall the episode you mentioned! Please leave a link to a clip or the season/episode #!
I sent a link but looks like it gets deleted

Haha🥩🤘
Dude! I've wanted to see this video for a while now, Fuck Ya dude especially hearing Inside the Horror
Awesome! And I love hearing that you made it to Inside The Horror! I often try to (or end up) saving the best for last!👊🎸
Hellya man usually watch till the end.. I'd still like to see or hear from Matt, Mark and Chris about the reunion shows and how they liked being onstage again and just everything about those shows..... (Hint hint) Lol
Nothing like eating some pot roast with boiled carrots.. salt, pepper Dales sauce and A1 on Hogie Buna or Tortillas while relaxing to your newest solo album Magnitude.
Nice! a fantastic recommendation! 🍖
Greetings rob could you do a bass pedal review of your bass player thanks
I'll see what I can do!
Hey Rob, have you thought about getting into fretwork? I learned how to last year and its revolutionised my setups.
I have not! I'd need a schooling on the topic, perhaps from a pro like yourself! Ever think about making some videos?
How big a difference do you find it makes ? What does this entail?
@@RobArnoldWorld oh I'm definitely not an expert haha but there are some brilliant videos on UA-cam already about the process. One day I just said, fuck it I'm doing it. Wasn't perfect straight away, but so long as you don't take too much off and take it slow, you can remedy most mistakes you make.
@@iamgribs it makes the world of difference in getting action as low as possible without dead notes, buzzing, etc.
It also improves the intonation all the way across the neck when you crown the frets after the levelling process.
Essentially the process is as follows:
1. Get the neck straight as possible.
2. Check the frets to see that they are all seated correctly. If any are lifted, tap them or set them back in. This is very important.
3. Mark the frets with a texter, then run the levelling beam across the frets until all the marker is gone on all frets (you will start to see where high or low frets are as the wearing off of the marker will not be uniform until you are approaching the end stage of levelling.
4. Once you think the frets are level, check your work with a fret rocker up and down the board to see if there remain any high spots. If so, mark just those spots with a marker and carefully focus the levelling beam across the problem fret and the few neighbours.
5. The crowning process- mark all the frets once again, then use a crowning file (I recommend the frets guru dagger) to file each fret until the line left by the marker on the fret is uniformly thin. This ensures a hemispherical "crown" on the top of the fret, allowing a fine point for the string to resonate on.
6. The polishing process- use successively finer grades of fret rubbers or sand paper grits until you reach 2000 grit, then use a polishing compound.
Frets will be levelled, crowned and shiny af!
@@WholeLottaBulldog that sounds above my paygrade, so i will let a professional handle that, but sounds cool, might polish my frets tho
Should have had Jim back just to string it for you, and just kicked back the whole time. 😅
Jim's scheduled to come by to shoot some content with me next week!
Awesome.
Still waiting for the Seinfeld show bass lick
🤘🤣
🤘🏻💀
Drop C on a 105? Those strings must feel like 🍝 😂 I always want higher tension so you can keep your action lower.
