Here is an easier way to change the speaker in a DRRI: disconnect the speaker wires and unscrew the 4 screws attaching the speaker baffle to the cabinet, then pull the baffle out forward, away from the front of the amp with the speaker still attached. Much easier.
Also, I am not a fan of the GASC-64 - too dull and mid-forward for Fender amps in my opinion.
Great tip. Thanks a lot
I thought it warmed the amp up. Made it sound a bit like a brownface, sort of anyway.
An ok upgrade over the stock speaker for most stuff. I put in an Eminence Cannabis Rex and am extremely pleased. I also just remove the front baffle when changing out speakers, way easier...!
I haven’t figured out how to take the baffle
I think I preferred the original Jensen.
🙏
..is the most common comment on all Jensen speaker swap videos 🙂
Same here
People on UA-cam are constantly going on about how a speaker swap is the biggest improvement you can do to an amp, but pretty much every single swap I’ve listened to, I preferred the original. Especially with Fender amps. I think Fender is *excellent* at matching speakers to their amplifiers.
Give the Alessandro a little time to break in and it will sound better and better in time… ❤
The Jensen did it for me, but it all depends on how sounds in a mix.
Usually the one that sucks isolated is the one that sounds better in a mix.
Eh! Eh!
The Alessandro has been the greatest speaker for me. It has all the range from good bottom the open highs ! + the middle range is perfect for deluxe reverb 👍
I love it a lot
Sounds great! I have a DRRI with a GA-SC64 as well, and I love it!
I love mine a lot
Awesome as always. I like the Alessandro
Both are good for me, both are very different though. Seems every time I play thorough various amps, I like them all with certain settings, gain, tone etc. Had well over a dozen amps in 50yrs and swapped speakers many times in pursuit of a tone. But really did not hate any of them..Fenders, Vox, Marshall and even $220 Amazon thing a few years back. Just enjoy all the choices! Haven't gigged in 25 years, but play as much as ever. Fender Blues Deluxe w/Eminence is the current toy. (way overkill, but sounds great!)
Both sound great but different. Remembering that your Jensen is broken in already the Eminence should sound betterer once broken in. Thanks for sharing, hope you’re very well! 🙏
Well thats funny , this morning i swapped the speaker in my fender tonemaster dr , i put an jupiter LC12 in it , and man , although the neodymium N12K speaker from jensen wich comes standard with this amp didn.t sound bad , this speaker really made the amp come alive , now i have even an harder time thinking this is not an tube amp , wich is kinda strange to me that an "fake "amp can sound so good even although i have this amp for 3-4 years now. I also had the allosandro speaker ( in an 3e power amp i once had ), i liked that speaker too .Keep on rocking Budda !
The tonemaster is a great amp
Yo he montado también un Júpiter LC12 a mi Súpersonic 60W , y estoy feliz saque de él su Celestion V30 que traía de fábrica y el Supersonic parece otro!!! Al menos para mis oídos !!
Even without "break-in" the GA has a warmer and less brittle tone. After a few months the GA will "open up" and that buttery smootheness becomes addictive.
I love it right out of the box
Very cool comparison!! Huge difference in that fuzz tone at the end of the comparison clips. The Eminence is much better for that. Smoothness, like you said. The felt dust cap does that. Also, the M size magnet lends some more midrange emphasis, as opposed to the Jensen’s H magnet, and that’s important for overdriven tones and fuzzes, I think, and the Deluxe has no midrange knob, so the Eminence makes it more versatile, I think. It’s more balanced. Great upgrade, although the Jensen is no slouch! Jensen makes single coil pickups sound like humbuckers, almost! FAT!! Peace, brother! ✌️🎶
I’ll be trying the Jensen in my Vox Ac15
In case no one has mentioned this already, The DRRI need not be completely disassembled/one need not remove all the amp components from the cabinet to change the speaker; the speaker can easily be replaced with no fuss by 1. Laying the amp on its face, 2. Unplugging the speaker cable from the amp speaker jack. 3. Inside the back of the amp, Remove the four screws, holding the speaker baffle to the amp cabinet. 5. Lift the amp cabinet away from the speaker baffle. You know I have easy access to the speaker baffle to remove and replace the speaker.
Great job! Great video.
Thanks a ton
Very interesting video Budda and they sound so different in the clips - the Jensen sounds more vintage, more Fender-y to me. But what can’t be captured on UA-cam is the *feel*, responsiveness - that’s probably the real deciding factor.
I found the Eminence is a little darker and less harsh so it makes the amp more usanle
@@BuddaGuedes Seems to me that's one of the things with UA-cam, the bottom end of the sound really doesn't come through at all, it's like there's a high-pass bass filter on all the time - can't hear "dark". Makes it hard to do speaker demos, I think.
@@BuddaGuedes "dark" is hard to convey on UA-cam, which seems to filter out the low bass - and of course if listening on headphones or a mobile phone that also means no low bass at all!
Zac Childs. From Ask Zac uses the Eminence Alessandro 64 12” speaker in his Fender Deluxe Reverb and his Headstrong Princeton Reverb and out of all the speakers he has used. It’s his favorite
I like it a lot
@dalehamon4295 I don’t know, you might actually know Zac and maybe he has changed his mind so you may be right. Less than a year ago, I reached out to him about changing the speaker in my Deluxe and his reply to me was that his personal favorite and recommendation was the Vintage 30. Tastes change so who knows but at the time that was his answer.
I think the vintage 30 is a classic but it takes ages to get it in the spot. The Alessandro is what JD Simo recommends and I love it
@@BuddaGuedes Yeah I’ve heard JD digs that speaker as do many others. I was honestly surprised by Zac’s answer but, to my recollection he had also done a video about the V30. Not what I would have thought but, a few years back I saw some in an early Supersonic that sounded fantastic.
I loaded the Alessandro in my PRINCETON Reverb BF RI for couple of years. Decided to go back and compare with the stock Jenson C 10 R . It surprises me how good the Jenson sounds. The Alessandro mids are more pronounced. Highs are less pronounced. Break up is more pronounced. Slightly less efficient than the Jenson. The Jenson sounds more familiar for classic Fender tone. They both flub on lows. Overall it 's a very tough decision. Each speaker shines in different ways. Trying to be objective , overall performance is a draw. Subjectively and to my😂 surprise I choose the Jenson for its classic Fender tone at lower cost. That being said you undetstand the Alessandro is a boutique high end speaker. Expect to pay more for this. Both sound great, just different.
In this case I find it a little more pleasing to play. But they are both great
@BuddaGuedes You have a good point. I may change back to the Alessandro after playing the Jenson for a bit. I will give an update
The GA-SC64 is a great choice if you play with any amount of distortion beyond a light crunch. If you play primarily clean there are better choices, including Jensen. But, the Eminence still offers a very nice clean tone.
I’ve yet to find a single speaker that offers my ideal clean and dirty sound, but the GA-SC64 comes close.
This sounds closer to the original speaker but less shrill with drives. So it does it for me
I prefer the Jensen.
Thanks
I think the Alessandro sounds terrible. the high-end is really harsh.
Really?!?
to my ears… Jensen wins 👍
👌🥹
Not being in the room and only judging by what it was capture by the mic, I felt that the Eminence brought much more brightness to the tone, the Jensen sounded darker, and I like darker tones, but the Eminence simply sound better in comparison, it felt the tone was brighter, alive without being to much aggressive to the ears.
I actually feel the stock speaker is a little harsher in the top end, but they are very similar
I have the Delta King 10", I had thought about changing the speaker for an Eminence Cannabis Rex or Eminence GA10-SC64, which would you recommend for that amplifier? Thank you
I don’t know neither! I’m sorry. But the GB would be a great thing for sure
I tried an Eminence Lil buddy in my 2013 Princeton Reverb Reissue amp. It was a dark sounding muffled speaker. Cannabis Rex would use that same cone material
Hi Budda, what do you think if I swap the speaker on my Harley Benton Tube 15 amp for a Jensen C12?
Which one is better for you, the C12N or the C12K?
I prefere the c12 n
Thank you! @@BuddaGuedes
The speakers sound radically different ,- The stock speaker definitely sounded better to me .. save your money !!! 😝
Eh! Eh! I kept the Alessandro because it’s smoother
I like the Jensen better. More warm mids.
🙏
Eminence for the win
👌
But. The Jensen sounds better! Get it back in lol
I’m keeping the eminence for now. But I’m not selling the jensen
I definitely don't pull chasis just thr tank
I wish I knew that before
You don’t need to remove the Reverb tank either; place the amp on its face, unplug the speaker from the speaker jack, and from the inside back of the cabinet, remove the four speaker baffle screws, then lift the amp up and away from the speaker baffle; you can now easily remove and replace the speaker without having to fuss with a Reverb tank or any other amp components.😊
Jensen all day long
👌
Try Jensen tornado stealth 12” 😎
Thanks
I really did not like the GA-SC64 at first. Bit flat and dull. But it is quite heavily doped and its a paper cone.. so I'm giving it 50 hrs or so before crying in to my beer.
I loved it right away, but …
@@BuddaGuedes Unrelated: its time you got the Stingray out again. Its been too long man! :)
Why not break in the Alessandro first?
It’s sounds great out of the box!!
@@BuddaGuedes Maybe George broke it in prior to shipping?
Hey Budda, was it a C12K or N?
It’s a c12 Q
@@BuddaGuedes have you tried the Jensen C12K? It's the high power and headroom version that now the 65 deluxe reissues come stock
@@miguelpessanhain the video clip where he took the amp apart, it’s definitely a C12K he’s taking out of the amp. Look at the size of the magnet. Later, in the comparison part, there is an image of a C12Q, but I assume we’re hearing a C12K. C12K is stock in modern 65 Deluxe Reverb Reissues of course. 🤷♂️
@@BuddaGuedesyou sure brother? No offense, just looks exactly like a C12K in that video clip where you took that amp apart… much love brother
I’ve been at this for a while. The Jenson is the best in a deluxe. The only speakers to consider is a Weber or a D120/K120.
The Weber for more punch
The JBL for more character
Thank you for the input
Il faut bien savoir que le DR est livré avec un Jensen céramique C12K. Si ma mémoire est bonne. Ce haut parleur est juste pas à la hauteur du DR.
Comparez un Jensen P12N Alnico avec le GA SC64...
Je peux juré que le choix est vite fait 😂😂😂
I replaced a pair of Neo Creamback with a pair of SC64’s if that tells you anything…
That’s a great speaker
The Alessandro imo sounds better!!!!!cheers
I love it
yeah its a great speaker...enjoy!!@@BuddaGuedes
