This is only missing the entirely unique flavor of paranoia when you've been out in unexplored space for a few weeks with millions in exploration data and returning back to colonized space, completely terrified about being interdicted.
What a great video. I loled at the ST:WOK reference at about 5:40. Keep em coming, you are mixing awesome gameplay with great humour an interesting science tidbits and that's awesome!
Hey there Scott. :) I'm also returning from Saggitarius A* :) Has I had classes and work. I didn't played Elite soo much so... It took me 11 months to get to Saggitarius A*. :-\ Got there with my ship all banged up due to some... accidents like some encounters with very tight binary systems. :-\ And... errrrrr... some... wrong button pressing twice while in timeshift drive. :-x So... I had to make a detour on my way back to Jacques station for repairs. I got there with my hull at 14% and alot of internal damage. :-\ Almost had to get out of the ship and push! :-x But I'm getting back to Sol now. :) 20kly out. :) Awesome videos!!! Cheers! :)
Assume you know now Scott but the HUD color issues with the boards is fixed now. I use a crystal blue HUD as it's much clearer in VR than the orange/red. Yet another great video, thanks!!
Great video. Here's hoping the next update delivers on expectations! Love ED but it's kind of a treat them mean to keep them keen relationship currently.
I've had a chuckle or two before, but listening to that segment made it hard to contain myself while I watched it at work. It was a break of his usual tone on top of being legitimately funny.
I like how in ED they managed to make the prospect of aliens both exciting and sorta terrifying. The ED universe still feels very lonely but it seems like there's another alien race out there just as lonely but possibly with very hostile intentions and there's no telling how powerful they may be.
I'm currently slowly going towards SagA*, but considering to delay the last few waypoints and the return trip until 2.2 is released. The improved route plotting and player journal could be worth it ☺ And the "reboot" sequence is so damn cool. I can recommend just triggering it to bask in the effect of your ship going cold and dark and then springing back to life. It will, actually, make your ship so cold that attacking AI loses track of you; just don't expect to live long when you're running hot again and don't have shields.
I don't really have plotting issues yet, but going the full 1000 ist getting markedly slower at 7KLy from the centre. The journal would really be nice to have though, it has a lot of information on where you've been and what you've found.
Haha, I came back from the Distant Worlds Expedition (9 months away from the inhabited space) just 2 weeks ago, and also almost crashed on that exact outpost. Got so relaxed by seeing stations and docking pads that forgot to check the planet's gravity. 1.2G. Not high by any means, but a nasty surprise when you're expecting it to be 0.3 or so =]
Fun Fact: Ned Kelly was actually a real Australian outlaw that fought against the corrupt Police back when the Australian colonies were founded. He was of Irish decent and was getting revenge for what the Police did to his Father and family. He was well liked by the public but there were few that didnt like him and considered him a murderer despite never killing civilians
Oh God.... I instinctively looked at the gravity display on the hud and saw 1.2g and immediately got very worried about the approach. Then it nearly happened. I know these videos are a number of years old, but I was holding my breath the whole time. To quote Jeremy Clarkson "Some poo came out!"
The new Galactic Map Filter in the 2.2 update for Stars Visited (Blue) under the star class can show the route without bookmarks and all the star system not visited (Red).
From now on you should be known as "Mad Manley"! No little trip to beagle point though? ;D The funny thing about the wreck is that it is in the game files since Horizons is out, so it probably sits there since then, and it is named to be just a scout, despite its size. Makes you wonder how big proper combat ships from them are (who knows how old that thing is anyway, lore wise). Oh and try the new large multi cannons on the Vulture with Incendiary Rounds later on.
Actually the vast majority of custom HUD colors don't change the NPC avatar faces anymore. Some of the more strange ones still do, but theyve largely fixed it.
Isn't that nebula you went to early on in the video the Greae Phio Stellar Forge? That's one of Commander Erimus' exploration stops. It has a spectacular starscape and all kinds of explorer goodies in it. Though that's true of most nebulas in the game. One of the coolest ones I went to was the Spirograph nebula. It's a pretty surreal place. It was a bit of a tough one to locate, as are a lot of the planetary nebulas to be honest. I recommend a visit!
Opinion of the Electric Universe theories? Is it worth the exploration, or is it so disconnected from reality it should be taken only as a novel thought experiment?
Back in the 60's and 70's it was a legit avenue of research but now it's primarily the domain of quacks. Lots of data in the last 30 years hasn't matched EU predictions while matching gravitational cosmology.
Is there any way in which some kind of "space whale" could really exist? Like a lifeform of some sort of significant size that lives in the vacuum of space?
Made a trip to a black hole and then a detour to Sag A and then went back home to where I'm based in LHS 215/Nanomam. I never, and I put a heavy emphasis on NEVER, ever want to do that again. The hours and hours of jumping from one system to another, occasionally stopping to scan a few planets. I get some people enjoy the exploration, there's a ton to see. But I am certainly not one of those people. It's almost like cabin fever.
Was another video series where one of the people in the video said it took 2 weeks of actual time to travel to and back from the Horshead nebula and they started to hallucinate.
Horsehead nebula is nearby by these standards.... Also note that the Horsehead region is now locked from players forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=254212
I'm actually on a very similar loop at the moment. Hoping to make a decent amount of money off of data. Think I'll sell half in Colonia, then the rest when I return to the bubble.
Not really. The problems are lacking scanning mechanics, however the distances and time it takes to cross them won't change and are pretty much a crucial part of Elite. We had enough space sims where you could cross the entire game universe in a few minutes, with every system as big as the distance you walk to your next grocery store, Elite is pretty much the only proper modern space sim who does this differently.
I suspect the problem is the multiplayer aspect of such games, unlike single player games, you really can't have different players in different reference frames, all players have to have the same time flow across the universe. So, for example, in Frontier your character would be essentially knocked out by the StarDreamer during the weeks of hyperspace travel, meaning the subjective time was only a moment or two, but that wouldn't really work in a multiplayer game, jumps have to be real time, meaning it will be tempting to keep them short to keep players from getting bored and quitting.
Exactly what yaksher guessed. Emission nebula have stars in them that make the cloud of dust and gas to visibly glow, while absorption nebula are only detectable by the background light they block or absorb.
Key employees for the KSP project resigning... totally normal on the surface (since the game is pretty complete at this point) but some people think there's drama of course. I don't know much about it so couldn't tell you if it's justified or not.
That's interesting, because the human eye has lower resolution in the blue spectrum, of course VR headsets aren't getting close to the resolution where it matters.
Yeah I played with different colours and blue was the most legible. It may be because there's a lot of orange in the scene already that the downscaling per eye cant cope and colour bleeds.
I have Elite Dangerous and would like to buy the Horizons expansion but I am not sure what it includes. If I buy it then what comes with it? How long is it good for? I also don't understand the whole engineers thing, does that cost extra?
So if the game accounted for the effects of special relativity, how much time passed from the time you left on your trip and returned? Would anything you returned to be recognizable after the passage of so much time?
While way off topic, Scott... I have to ask; have you heard of/considered playing 'crypt of the necrodancer'? With your interest in rockin' tunes, it might be right up your alley! Sadly not space related, but is a fantastic rogue-like dungeon crawler... it's quite challenging! Keep up the great work! Game on.
Scott Manley it's quite difficult! Myself, I only have 3-4 hours of time in and have yet to complete the first level. Crazy stuff. I don't get to the live streams very often. Perhaps there is some gameplay imbedded in one of the streams posted here on the tube, I'll have to take a look. Game on, dude!
0:20 18 hours in real life or in the game, which how long is that in real life? 1:11 this looks like a right triangle, why couldn't you have traveled along the "hypotenuse" you know, just direct from one point to another? Even if you had to stop some of the way? 8:28 wouldn't it be crazy NASA briefly detects some space craft appear out of nowhere, using our sun to refuel, then vanishes again. Not saying it would work like that (don't know) but...
I'm interested in picking up this game. Is it absolutely necessary to play with a Joystick ? I have a Thrustmaster Warthog but not much place on my desk at the moment. And does it support TrackIR (I guess yes, but you never know :p )
Hey Scott, I just downloaded Elite: Dangerous for my PC, and I'm wondering if you have any tips for me on how to get a good start? I had it on my xbox a few months ago, but I lost all of that, and the way I was doing things there wasnt really working all that well.
Hi Scott. any idea what you do if your ship is destroyed while you are in your SRV, just landed on a barren planet & moved in to my SRV, started to move away & was attacked & destroyed leaving me without my ship, so now I am stuck on a planet without any way out, any thought from you or anyone?
Can I add a GRUMP? I was all eager to see you delve into Sid Meir's latest masterpiece. Instead, more elite. Not that there's so much issue with elite, but I really was hoping for some civ love.
1:45 Scott Manley trying to summon Satan.
Watch on 2x speed for some real demonic chanting.
Altrue19 everyone knows he was trying to summon the kraken from ksp
This is only missing the entirely unique flavor of paranoia when you've been out in unexplored space for a few weeks with millions in exploration data and returning back to colonized space, completely terrified about being interdicted.
Got interdicted coming back from Sag A*.....thank Christ it was just an NPC.......
Not cool in the slightest XD
oh man I lost it when you pronounced those systemnames :D
Sounded like he tried to summon demons..
That ending was awes0me. Really nerve racking
What a great video. I loled at the ST:WOK reference at about 5:40. Keep em coming, you are mixing awesome gameplay with great humour an interesting science tidbits and that's awesome!
The Warp edits on your way home on this are priceless. Well done sir.
I swear you quoting the names sounded like some kind of R'lyehian ritual
I swear to god Cthulhu was summoned somewhere
Never say cthulu's name in vain.
Why care, he'll devour us all anyway.
Sooner or later.
Hehe yeah.
I think he heard it, and wasn't himself certain if he was summoned or not. Probably confused.
The commentary was hilarious
Goodbye mountain friend :(
I just discovered your E:D videos today and i'm hooked. you have a great sense of humor and narration. Can't wait for your next installment!
first time watching this series and I all ready love it
I appreciate the subtle Wrath of Khan reference at 5:25 Scott.
"The ship...out of danger?"
Subtle like a photon torpedo up the jacksie...
We are gathered here today...
Man, your videos are simply the best. You really went the extra lightyear.
Watching Elite videos while playing Elite, probably not the best ideas. All the computer warnings popping up kept freaking me out.
Loved the Wrath of Khan reference.
I just got that. Facepalm
12:58 - Scott tells a woman to smile more.
#GAMERGATE2
Hey there Scott. :) I'm also returning from Saggitarius A* :)
Has I had classes and work.
So... I had to make a detour on my way back to Jacques station for repairs. I got there with my hull at 14% and alot of internal damage. :-\
Almost had to get out of the ship and push! :-x
But I'm getting back to Sol now. :) 20kly out. :)
Awesome videos!!!
Cheers! :)
Safe travels!
Thank you! :)))
That must have been how Darth Vader felt at the end of episode IV, spinning off into space, trying to reboot his ship...
your awesome man. love your naming of the interesting systems.
great video as always.
thanks for great entertainment.
1:35 i think this is the first time i ever laughed at Scott's jokes :D
I've had a chuckle or two before, but listening to that segment made it hard to contain myself while I watched it at work. It was a break of his usual tone on top of being legitimately funny.
What have you got against Andorians, pink skin?!
Nothing I just don't want to confuse the humans with andorians (or the Orions for that matter)
8:33 "Occasionally stopping on planets to mark my territory by venting my fuel tanks..." Sounds to me like someone needs a fuel rat. XD
Thy'lek Shran, the hero Trek needs and deserves!
Seriously I'd watch a series just about him during the Romulan War quite happily.
he was the best bit of enterprise. imagine if het got sent forward to the dominion war. him, weyoun and Brunt, FCA.
21:42 That saved my bacon once. Didn't know about it at first and was super giddy when it worked
Congrats on half a mil subs Scott.
Great video Scott!
I like how in ED they managed to make the prospect of aliens both exciting and sorta terrifying. The ED universe still feels very lonely but it seems like there's another alien race out there just as lonely but possibly with very hostile intentions and there's no telling how powerful they may be.
Pretty exciting there at the end. Nice save.

It will, actually, make your ship so cold that attacking AI loses track of you; just don't expect to live long when you're running hot again and don't have shields.
Getting to Sag A without the improved route planer is simple, plot 1 thousand lightyears and scoop at every available star.
I don't really have plotting issues yet, but going the full 1000 ist getting markedly slower at 7KLy from the centre. The journal would really be nice to have though, it has a lot of information on where you've been and what you've found.

No no no no! Is something that come out of my mouth every time I try to land at farseer base.
Great video, love your dedication.
8:30 you clearly lost your mind on the journey home! lol

Oh and try the new large multi cannons on the Vulture with Incendiary Rounds later on.
1:20 - 1:55 God damnit Scott Manley, not all of us speak Klingon!
I loved my vulture, but then I did Morai and got enough to upgrade to the FDL. Holy cow that thing hits like a truck.
Actually the vast majority of custom HUD colors don't change the NPC avatar faces anymore. Some of the more strange ones still do, but theyve largely fixed it.
Scott, capital ships in the game are also human-made:\
P.S.: 18:50 Ned Kelly being robbed...
Great video diary. Thank you

Never heard of this. Any chance you can explain it for us?
Would like to hear that too. ^
rationalwiki.org/wiki/Electric_Universe
A quick Google Search helps it to get a quick summary.
Remer714 I read that yesterday, thank you.
15:00 external ship lights. Park your ship close and leave them on, I think they stay on.
Is there any way in which some kind of "space whale" could really exist? Like a lifeform of some sort of significant size that lives in the vacuum of space?
I also recently returned to civilization from an expedition 😃
Except my method of return involved a bit more...
Exploding...
Far from home. Trying to get home the fastest way possible. *whispers* Star Trek voyager.
The scary thing? If that's a thargoid, and it sure as hell looks like one, that's a SMALL ship.
I would like to go out exploring again but I do too much PVP. I start to lose the feel with plasma accelerators and rails if I take an extended break.
2:48 The Lady of Space Nebula. (look in the negative space)
No, if you wreck and explode you lose all your cartographic data since your last star port. A lesson I learned the hard way...
very disappointed that you did not follow through with the rap idea
4:45 Sagittarius B2 is a 3 million solar mass nebula consisting mostly of alcoholic chemicals
Scott there is a thread on the ED forums listing display colour values that don't mess up the NPC portraits :)
Holy shit that ending... I have to finally buy this game
Scott, we do need a music clip with you rapping names of the planets you discovered :)
Has there been some Dune in your life recently Scott? You had some very Fremin pronunciations in there.
would have laughed my ass off if the wreck was a kerbal x...
Was very far away at least. A year or so ago on the Scott Plays Games channel where he had some people join him on stream to play the game.
"As... I... Slowly lost my mind..." lol
I'm actually on a very similar loop at the moment. Hoping to make a decent amount of money off of data. Think I'll sell half in Colonia, then the rest when I return to the bubble.
Those names with your accent, awesome :D
Lmao Scott. You hit the problems of long distance travel in ED right on the head.

Absroption and emission nebula ? What is the difference ?
Probably emission nebula emit light and absorption nebula don't?
Exactly what yaksher guessed. Emission nebula have stars in them that make the cloud of dust and gas to visibly glow, while absorption nebula are only detectable by the background light they block or absorb.
ohh ok thanks !
Bryan Shouse Thanks for confirming.
LMAO I subbed....Holy Pigeons!! I'm crackin up...
Hey Scott, can you make a video about the recent "drama" concerning Squad, the dev team of KSP ?
I'd like to have your point of view.
Cheers
What drama?
Key employees for the KSP project resigning... totally normal on the surface (since the game is pretty complete at this point) but some people think there's drama of course. I don't know much about it so couldn't tell you if it's justified or not.
I'm not sure why Scott would want to publicly gossip about people with whom he has a professional relationship.
Drama?
The areas where I've read about it people where pretty nice and wished them all the good things.
this game is so wicked in VR.
D12 lol ya needed some purple pills playing in the background
my favorite part of this is how "i parked my asp" sounds like "i parked my ass" and the sentence is way better
when he said "I'm more than halfway there" I immediately had to think "are you more than halfway living on a prayer?"
Quick travel would be great in this game.
Hi Scott, Love your videos. Big fan of your helpful work in KSP. Are you running graphics mods in E:D? Your skybox looks really good --
17:05 scott manley basically calling them thicc
I find the orange HUD virtually unreadable when in VR, I had to swap to a blue HUD.
That's interesting, because the human eye has lower resolution in the blue spectrum, of course VR headsets aren't getting close to the resolution where it matters.
Yeah I played with different colours and blue was the most legible. It may be because there's a lot of orange in the scene already that the downscaling per eye cant cope and colour bleeds.
do you know if you can change that on the Xbox version?
I don't sorry. I doubt it also because of the nature of how you change it on the PC.
good video scott
now go as far from the middle as possible, like the edge of the galaxy and see if you can keep going out in the middle of nowhere
Game on.
I've played it in livestreams, I love that game even though I'm bad at it.
"I love that game even though I'm bad at it"
^My relationships with RTS/4X genre:(
My relationship with bf4.... I'm getting better, and can kick ass with a vehicle(except lavs...).
Does anyone know if VY Canis Majoris is in this game?
old question, but yes it is there, and as expected, it's HUGE
amazing video
0:20 18 hours in real life or in the game, which how long is that in real life?
1:11 this looks like a right triangle, why couldn't you have traveled along the "hypotenuse" you know, just direct from one point to another? Even if you had to stop some of the way?

18 hours in game= 18 hours irl
Emil Kollakowski damn that's nuts, dedication
If you want your name on systems and planets you have to get off the direct route.
Hey Manley! do you use a joystick when you play? love your videos!
I use a saitek x56 rhino hotas and its awsome. the best game to use the stick with.
I'm interested in picking up this game. Is it absolutely necessary to play with a Joystick ? I have a Thrustmaster Warthog but not much place on my desk at the moment. And does it support TrackIR (I guess yes, but you never know :p )
It works best with a stick but you can use the mouse and keyboard just fine. It works with TrackIR
I don't know where you find the time to do this.
Scott just created a new language lol
2:28 needs some Star Wars Empire soundtrack ))
I think I could kinda watch an entire video with your system's name pronunciation.
Can you do a video on the recent release of emails regarding alien disclosure on wiki leaks?
08:04 thru 08:46 Nice FSD breakbeat
My hud is green, but that's because green is easier to read on the Oculus. Down side is, mission givers look like zombies.
lol.. love those phonic pronunciations!
changing color of HUD, does NOT effect faces any more, the fixed it months ago ;)
You sound like a Sims character when you are naming the planets
Do nebulae in real life behave anything at all like the Mutara Nebula in star Trek?
Most, if not all, nebula in real life would be so tenuous you could barely tell you were in one if you flew in.
Hey Scott, I just downloaded Elite: Dangerous for my PC, and I'm wondering if you have any tips for me on how to get a good start? I had it on my xbox a few months ago, but I lost all of that, and the way I was doing things there wasnt really working all that well.

RAGNAR BLOODEAGLE try relogging and See if you can call your ship
Hi mate. thanks for the info but I tried that first, but all is well, had to self-destruct, & then rebuy. cheers.
Can I add a GRUMP? I was all eager to see you delve into Sid Meir's latest masterpiece. Instead, more elite. Not that there's so much issue with elite, but I really was hoping for some civ love.
Species 8472 spotted !
Any comment to the Squad KSP rumors about 8 people who left? Was confirmed by reddit KSP mods.
