  • The Imperial Eagle is fast with the default fit, but add enhanced thrusters, strip out everything else and then engineer it with the goal of the maximum speed and it'll go almost 900m/s - faster if you have the patience to work for that perfect engineer result.

    I loved this game when it came out and was super excited but it required so much grinding that it became more of a chore to get something fun. Really wish these games had missions of moderate but not extreme difficulty that would granted you a complete ship and some upgrades/customizations. Make these games more about the play than the grind. But give it to you Scott Manley to make it feel exciting again.

    Imperial Eagle is one of my most used ships for quite some time now. I've been playing this game for a while, and I've burned out on most basic activities there are. So with some sum in the bank, and a bit of boredom I've discovered my new drug - racing :) Canyon racing. And this thing is just...mental. Fully modded for lightweight. No shields or any unnecessary internals. It's just so much fun.

    • @F3EDER
      @F3EDER 7 років тому +1

      Some guy told me that the Imperial Courier has a slightly higher maxspeed when engineered. I have yet to try it out so I don't know but it would seem a bit unlikely.

  • @THEJAFFACAKE1865
    @THEJAFFACAKE1865 7 років тому +9

    The Imperial Courier is actually lighter than the Eagle, in my experimentation with enhanced thrusters and engineering I got my Courier significantly faster than my iEagle. Try those modded thrusters out on a lightweight Courier, you might get even faster.

    • @scottmanley
      @scottmanley  7 років тому +7

      +Dustin Mason I did, didn't go faster.

    • @THEJAFFACAKE1865
      @THEJAFFACAKE1865 7 років тому

      Did you strip them both right back or did you have heavier modules in the Courier? Because it really should be lighter and therefore faster. The hull mass is 15t less, but it has heaver internals/weapons so if you want speed from it you have to strip down everything.

    • @THEJAFFACAKE1865
      @THEJAFFACAKE1865 7 років тому

      It might just be that my g5 dirty drives have pretty poor optimised mass compared to yours, so my iEagle doesn't perform as well as yours does. But theoretically the Courier is lighter, so shouldn't it go faster with the same drives? There's also the point of the larger power distributor on the Courier, so it can maintain its boost speed whereas the iEagle can't as easily.

    I have given up this game for some time now, but, i am planning to dive back in to it, one of those days, and buy the horizon's season, untill then, i am stuck with just the basic elite dangerous, so, i don't know if the developers, have "fixed" the physics, regarding inertia, when flying with flight assist off, and accelerate every time u hit the boosters, with out slowing down, of what i have seen on this vid, they haven't, does any one knows, if the devs have any plans on making ships, ceep on going faster, and faster, when using boosters, with out diccelerating, before turning flight assist back on?
    P.S. i am aware, the same sould happen with just thrusters, with flight assist off, but i guess, that would b asking for too, much, also, i thing rotational rate, sould increase too, allthough i think turning angular and rotational momentum, full real physics, would make the game, almost uplayable, with out flight assist.

      Scott Manley I guess, everyone must b right then, i honestly think the people who decided it was unfun, knew what they were doing, i can understand, how, what i suggest, would b a not good idea, for a few reasons, but, i still think, there is room for improovement, in the game, i would very much wellcome, a few additions, in the contact panel, the speed and distance, of any viewed object, would b one of them, maybe speed could b viewed, on the hud, next to the target's name, as well wider range of the spce craft's sensors, is desired too, maybe, even different coulours, of contacts, if they r in a fight, in the same panel, green if they haven't deployed hard points, yellow if they have, and red, if they r firing them, for example.
      But, other then that, e.d. is quite a good game, and i enloy playing it.
      Thnx for the responce.
      I think u r making very good vids.

    • @Wylie288
      @Wylie288 7 років тому

      That will never happen. Every physics limiting system is a very good decision. My guess is you have never played a multiplayer game using the physics you are requesting. In Elite players can't cheat and change their speeds to make gameplay for fun like an AI can.

    • @dimitrisfromgreece7588
      @dimitrisfromgreece7588 7 років тому

      Brendan Forishu r right, i jumped from EVE on line, str8 to elite, and, i wasn't using, flight control off, as much, as i do now, and it is much harder, than i thought it was, basically, i wanted to use flight assise off mode, mainly to ecrease my speed, and rotation, in short bursts, and then turn it back on, which, now, that i tried it, it needs a lot of practice.
      Bad idea, my bad, but, i still think the contacts panel, needs some more work to b done with, and maybe, maintaining top boost speed, when flying with flight assist off, is not a bad idea, as for the AI ability to change speeds, and fight in general, if, it's responce time, wasn't limited to match human responeces, i don't think there would b many people able to bit it.

    • @Wylie288
      @Wylie288 7 років тому

      Dimitris Chaniotis Maintaining boost speed in FA Off would be a bad idea. It would make FA Off pilots faster. That gives them an advantage that has nothing to do with skill. 100% unbalanced. I'm super glad you aren't a dev.

      I flew out to Colonia once, before they had passenger missions. You can make some serious money taking passengers there nowadays. Once there, I realised how boring it was so I decided to head back. Discovered they were offering missions to haul freight back to the bubble. Made 190m. The downside was I had 20hrs to do it in. That was one long, tedious day. But then, in its present state, it's a tedious game. Not sure if they still make those big freight offers since they fiddled with the payouts tho. I assume running passengers would be the easier way to do it.

      The thing about locking Solo Play behind always online and the multiplayer rules is because Solo Play is basically just a private server that only you can access. I can sort of understand some of the reasons they did it that way, as it means that the actions of all players influence the galaxy. It would be nice to be able to play without an internet connection or with mods though, and I do really wish they would've had an offline, customizable singleplayer that was perhaps still influence by the playerbase, while the singleplayer's influence wouldn't affect the actual galaxy.

      community goals take a while, but they're a pretty considerable way to make money. If it makes it to a high tier, and you make it to a high bracket, you can probably make about 20mil a week just by the rewards. It still takes time, but I think it's more fun than doing the same thing over and over - a change of pace is nice. And just ftr, I bought and outfitted a federal corvette this way - never did long range trading. you can definitely get your anaconda this way.

    Scott can you alter the HUD colour? It all seems so very orange.. I think a Green or Blue would be much easier on the eyes. I can't wait for the final version/ launch version to be finished as I will build myself a custom rig so play this game, as it's got more going for it than "No Man's Sky" that's for sure.

      Scott Manley Thanks for the reply Scott. Do you need a pretty beefy gaming rig to play this game at all? It looks a very lovely detailed game considering it's still in the "Beta" stages, but the orange huds that most of the ships I seen on UA-cam have seems an oversight somewhat.

    • @scottmanley

      It's not in Beta, it was released 2 years ago. The beta is just for the latest update before it goes live for everyone.
      Also, Elite is one of the best optimized games I've played, it'll run quite well with even moderate GPU specs.

    The Imperial Courier can actually get to a higher average speed than the Eagle, because it's much lighter than the engine specs, and it decelerates from boost speed much more slowly as well. Also with a charge-enhanced power distributor, you can ALMOST permaboost, and you probably can actually permaboost with overrolls.

    • @randomnickify

      No speed limits would mean you be traveling at speed which would make any sort of dog fighting impossible. By the time you get close enough to fire in the next instant you will be a very far away again. Not to mention the rubber banding that would result from ships moving such large distances per packet received. Then there's the issue of slowing down.... So many other problems I haven't touched on. Speed limits are the way to go. Be thankful that had the foresight to disable thruster effects when you hit the limit.

      @Jake-gx4ow 7 років тому +4

      Yea, you can. By default flight assist won't let you (this makes it so your ship always faces the direction of travel). But if you disable flight assist, you can freely rotate the ship in any direction independent of your velocity. So you can fly one way, turn on a dime, and then shoot backwards. It's harder to do though.

    • @elithradril

    After watching this I tried letting gravity accelerate my conda with tiny thrusters on it and don’t really understand what happened.
    Attempt 1: I was in 0.12 g. If I boosted towards the planet, turned off my thrusters, recharge, turn on thrusters, boost, repeat I could gain about 20-30 m/s each time. If I just left thrusters off it would stay at a steady speed.
    Attempt 2: I was in 1.05g and after a while I didn’t have to turn off my thrusters to keep accelerating. In fact as I got within a few hundred km of the surface I did everything I could to try to slow down. I was boosting away from the planet, falling backwards, but it ACCELERATED me towards the planet. I tried facing the planet and using reverse thrusters, again, it just made me fall faster. I boosted away from the surface over and over, I tried just using normal thrusters. No matter what I did to try to slow down it just made me go faster. In fact if I did nothing my speed didn’t increase much, but anything I tried to do to slow down made it increase quickly. To the point I had to log out or smash into the surface at 1200m/s.

    So haven't played in about half a year and my vulture is almost useless. I feel stuck and unable to progress. I used to take on literally any ship in it. Now, forget about it. They've decreased an already low power ship so my loadout doesn't work on it, not to mention the shields are weaker and even the hull, which was not good in the first place, is weaker. Feels bad man.
