Me (GSTAR321) doing a live commentary and playthrough of 'The Evil Within' on AKUMU difficulty.
The Evil Within is a survival horror game directed by Shinji Mikami and was released in 2014. It is available on PC, PS3, PS4, XBOX 360 & XBOX ONE.
Shinji Mikami does what he does best and has provided us with yet another great survival horror game. The Evil Within is VERY similar in gameplay mechanics to 'Resident Evil 4', and it makes sense as Mikami directed that game as well.
I give praise to the games atmosphere, pacing and gameplay but personally find the story to be a convoluted mess. Still, if you can manage to get your head around it, you will find it somewhat entertaining (though laughable). Locating all the collectables is a must in terms of gaining a better understanding of the story.
But aside from that, the monster designs are fantastic, the level design and atmosphere is amazing, and the gameplay is on point. With a mix of stealth, gunplay, traps and intense boss battles, this is a great game. An essential addition to any survival horror lovers repertoire!

You sure akumu doesn't mean "bear trap"? Cuz that was at least half my deaths in the akumu playthough.
No need to waste Flash Bolts in that first section. After killing the first two, the next 3 can be easily kited around the room. Just be sure to blast both barrels first so that they don't get in your way. The only thing to be sure of is that you keep an eye on the one holding the knife, as her lunge can reach you if you're not sprinting. As long as you run around the room in wide circles and sprint away whenever the knife-wielder gets close, you can make it to the next section easily.
Additionally, against the two giants, if you are low on ammunition, you can pretty much let Joseph take care of both of them. There are 2 explosive bolts to collect after the fight, so if you're already stocked up on those you can use 2 of them, but I usually just hide in that little tunnel if I'm trying to conserve ammo.

Gstar you ever have plans on doing the Dead Space games? Specifically 1 & 2? They're similar to Resident evil 4 and Evil Within in terms of gameplay, I think you'd enjoy.

Alright in case anyone sees this.
Don't upgrade the Flash bolt to level 5. Level 4 is enough for the whole game. Also it's a lot better strat to upgrade your Stamina to atleast 6 seconds. And when you kill the first 2 haunted in the cabin, just play ring around the Rosie with the 3 haunted and only use Flash bolts for emergency. (Like they are about to attack Joseph, or you are about to get cornered)

About that thing you said about beating this chapter without dying, it actually is possible, there are speedrunners that have done not only that but the whole game in AKUMU without dying, i've seen it.

Was just wondering, where is the brass knuckles weapon?
I'm sure that you unlock that weapon once akumu mode is completed?
I'd read that the brass knuckles deals a lot of damage, once fully upgraded.
But I'm guessing it would not be much help for this mode, anyway. Lol.
Yea, I believe you unlock the Brass knuckles by completing either Nightmare or Akumu mode. But this walkthrough is to help people getting through Akumu without those unlockables. This is a 'New Game', not 'New Game+'. I'll talk about the unlockables later on in the walkthrough anyways.

Do you plan on using the poison bolt during your playthrough? I know it sucks, but there's probably a part of the game where you could use it and get it off your hands while saving ammunition on another weapon or agony bolt.
I'll try and use it for the next chapter if I don't forget. It's just such a pointless bolt, I hate it lol.
Is it available only on this difficulty?
Nah, you can get it on any difficulty, but I believe it's a 'DLC' thing. It's called the 'Fighting Chance Pack' if I'm not mistaken, and you'll get the incendiary bolt too.

25:40: Joseph WILL set off that trap and it will kill him instantly, so if you enter that little room, be sure that Joseph is well behind you, as he will always enter from the trap side. As soon as you get in there, disarm the trap!

You do not need to fight them two giant monsters. If you hide in that small hole place then Joseph takes care of them and you save so much ammo.

I've had a brief look at some of the models, but I didn't pay attention to the Keepers.
MrGSTAR321 Most of the monsters and bosses are all tied to Ruvik (or his experiments) in some way, which may or may not be ripping off Silent Hill depending on who you ask.
The flavor text in the character models is probably the only way you'll have any notion in what's going on with the story.
