Björk - Live from Langholtskirkja, Reykjavík [Voltaïc]

- Björk live from the beautiful Langholtskirkja in Reykjavík on August 26, 2008. This is the last show of the extensive Volta Tour, which took Björk around the globe from 2007 to 2008. As a way to say goodbye to the era, Björk put on a special show, which featured brass, a choir, organ, piano, harpsichord (all played by the incredible Jónas Sen) and only subtle electronics (thanks to the unforgettable Mark Bell).
This is the longer cut of the show, and was only featured on the first, Malaysian pressing of the Voltaïc boxset, which was published in 2009. Unfortunately, it still didn't include all the songs performed during the night.
This is the actual setlist of the night. Songs featured in the video have their timestamp:
1 - Overture
2 - Pneumonia 00:44
3 - The Anchor Song
4 - Cover Me 06:37
5 - My Juvenile 09:39
6 - Immature 13:48
7 - The Dull Flame of Desire 16:40
8 - Vökuró 21:10
9 - Sonnets/Unrealities XI 24:53
10 - Mouth’s Cradle (1st performance of the night)
11 - Oceania
12 - Who Is It
13 - It’s Oh So Quiet
14 - Mouth’s Cradle (repeated for filming) 27:07

Thanks a lot for the upload of this small gem. It made my day!
I'm sick with covid and isolating from my family - including my 10m old son. It's the longest time I spent without being able to hug him or play with him, which is pretty tough, and the intimacy of this unique concert soothes the time a bit...
You don't know how much this comment warms my heart ♥️♥️♥️ I wish a speedy recovery! I've had a long covid myself this year and I know how hard it is to being isolated 💫
@@faberCTI perhaps global sickness and isolation are what lead to our peoples joining as one human species in order to save itself. Anyway, good blast from the past (one that was deliciously new to me, for one). Thank you for sharing. bjork’s quiet confidence and unapologetic excellence in craft throughout this? it’s a balm
I wish a speedy recovery! Good vibes! 💪💪💪💪
Went through this a month ago, without my son to hug and play with. ❤❤💪🏽
Bjork is a gift to the world.
because she is so sweet,right?
ICH BIN EIN DEUTSCHER. DENKE GENAUSO.
The greatest!❤
I WONDER HOW BIG IS HER MARKET .
I know I'm not the only one when I say that I'm violently Happy for Bjork still being here with us.
Why wouldn't she be? Was she sick or something?
Lol too cheesy
Me too! Perhaps it's just Human Behavior.
@@arkoobi Actually, this wasn't supposed to happen, but im glad it did.
You're not alone! Ive adored her music for so long(since the Sugarcubes!), she feels almost like an old friend! She sounds amazing since having that vocal node surgery too! Nice to know she isnt in pain anymore
Bjork has evolved to a point where whatever she utters become art.
... a hot disorienting mess
Antyart, and antyculture...
Not quite getting it but it's coolish will always be a fan however
Really…..I think she is a terrible singer.
@@leonardoiglesias2394 I agree. Not all she touches turn gold!
I've never really listened to Björk before, but good god was this incredible. She's completely unique
I'm so happy for you! You've got a LOT of good material out there to work with. Bjork has worked her butt off since the 80s, so there's a lot to go through. If you like this type of paired down, vocal-centered vibe, I would go for Biophilia, Medulla, Verspertine, Homogenic. If you love techno-tribal, unique beats, go for Debut, Post, Volta, and the many, many remix albums (my fav being Biophilia remixes named Bastards - arguably better than the original depending on your preferences). And then you have all of the live DVDs, albums, etc which are all usually done on different instruments and with new vocalizations, backup groups, DJs, ect. She rarely does the same thing in the same way, twice. Every project she does is always massive in conceptual scope. It's a feast. Her last few albums have been so vastly orchestral and dismissive of familiar time signatures/harmonies, it's been difficult for me to settle into them. I would LOVE to be just discovering her work. Have fun and go places!
@@sisterseeth thank you Brian, all of that info is really helpful. I'm aware her discography is very eclectic, but I prefer the stripped down, vocal-centric vibe of this as you so eloquently described. I'll be sure to put your album recommendations on my playlist and run through them over the weekend!
Do yourself a favor check out her whole catalogue, collaborations, all of it. Sick, just sick. Been listening to her since she was in the Sugarcubes. She can't help but to be totally original and unique.
her voice sounds so metallic and crystalline it matches so well the instruments, immature's version is so amazing
indeed
most vocalists would sound completely out of place over this instrumentation
Her voice sounds exactly like someone who doesnt have the slightest idea about how to sing…she sings like an untalented 12 year old…but the audience understands she is a genius…we, normal people dont.
Ohhhh 🥰 Bjork's golden voice! I'm so blessed to be alive at the same time as Bjork 👏🙏💗
Bjork shows us her incredible mastery of sound, and the sound of a voice in song and with instruments. But she also uses language in a way that goes beyond poetry and singing. I think she is the genius of our generation! Really fine, this!
I was so shook when she started singing Pneumonia. Such an underrated song, one of her most powerful vocal performances!
I'm so happy to see all these lovely positive comments for Bjork.. I loved her since I first herd her and then went out and bought her first album Debut.. ( on cassette 🤭) see her at Wembley too. She is phenomenal xx a true gift xx
I love it when I don't have the time to listen but what transpires grabs me by the senses and compells me to listen and stop what I'm doing to give it my full attention. Mesmerising!
Same here😊😊😊😊😊
Me pasa lo mismo! Saludos desde Argentina
True vocal mastery. Pure and unique. Thank you Bjork you are very very special.
Bjork totally was my 90s crush...melodic... beautiful...calming... sweet..talented. my girl
What a treat!!! I’ve always loved how she’s singing fresh every time- her improvisation and different phrasing every time, coming from such a genuine, musical place ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Bjork at her best. What a gem👏👏👏
Dont know why i didnt watch this EPIC concert earlier, but today i just woke up with some melody, but later "I’ve Seen It All" strongly started playing in my head and somehow i've came to Dull Flame and decided to watch some wariations on it and found this COSMOS! So, GREAT THANKS for sharing dis small universe of my favorite allkind of trumpets and Björk!🥳🤗
A really great woman. A real gem creating art and happiness wherever and whatever she does.
Simply extraordinary! Brass ensemble, harpsichord, organ, choir and mouth precision rhythm track. Who else but Björk has written and performed anything like this? I love that she continues to use live instrumental musicians and chorus singers on stage. Not stuck in a pit at the front of the stage, nor up the back some where, but right there with her. Her art transcends.
Correction: Mouth percussion rhythm track.
Bjork is just on a whole other level. I am lucky to be alive in a time that is blessed with her creativity
So unique, so amazing. This music makes me sad and happy at the same time.
pneumonia is one of my all time favorites from her. its sad how doesnt receive attention
Ikr it’s my fav on Volta
pneumonia has to be one of her most emotional songs
its so healing, reassuring. brings me to tears
Thank you so much for sharing this, l have been listening to Bjork since the beginning, this was Amazing!
The last song made a tear of joy running down my cheek 😊
Seeing Björk sing live in Iceland is now at the top of my bucket list. Seriously, if she ever does another show like this in her home country I will do everything I can to have my butt sitting and listening to her sing. We are so lucky we have her singing for us!
THE AUDIO FOR THIS IS INCREDIBLE!
This is what she has to say , and this how she has to say it , with all the freedom of her soul.💛She is an absolut outstanding artist !!! 🧚🧚♂
i adore every sound this woman creates
So happy that this amazing artist Is on the side of the light🙏❤️🍀
Wie traurig und dunkel wäre es auf der Welt ohne diese Lichter!🙏☀️
hvordan vager du å snakke så nedlatent om denn lille jenta? skamm deg! hun r lyset.
When I first heard 'Play Dead' nearly 30 years ago it almost blew my mind. The production and the vocal are phenomenal.
❤Bjork, she’s about 500 years ahead of her time.
The benefit of living in Iceland, though I'm sure this intimate concert sold out within minutes. How special to hear her with a brass ensemble.
What an amazing performance! WOW!!! Blessings Bjork, Blessings.
Beautiful unique Bjork, sublime vocalist and songwriter 🖤💙🖤
Beautiful 😍 and the smiling lady in the choir. Vibrant voices and instruments all around!! Yay Bjork keep 🌟 shining. What a gift our Father in Heaven gives us, music, life and love.
She's incredible, always has been
critically underrated performance, cant believe i havent seen this before. "the dull flame of desire" sounds particularly amazing
Wow, thank you for this, she holds such a special place in my heart. Her voice danced and echo'd throughout my ears and soul on multiple strolls through Paris. She is a pure artist at the truest sense of the word, I love her and this performance is a pure gift...
Björk surprise me every time, She’s a great artist, musician … thanks for sharing this beautiful concert. I like the way how she uses traditional instruments in her compositions , … ❤
Björk is the first artist on Earth that made me feel like" No you're not fool, this somewhere else exists for real". I'm so grateful to her. Thanks for sharing this vidéo = )
👽So Good to see her precious face again, God Bless Björk 🙏.
she´s not only sweet .....and ....and .and.... she symbolizes all the sorceresses the christian world has brought on the scaffold. Thanx for all these sorceresses that come back and portray our decadent society. God bless you /the right one!!!!
I wish the world would be safe again so she could come down and give us a good concert we understand where you’re coming from God bless you and have a great journey hope to see you at the Hollywood bowl 💙💜💜💕💙💙💙 We need world peace💚💙💙☠️☠️☠️☮️☮️☮️☮️☮️☮️☮️☮️
So moving and beautiful to see our sparkling little songbird in this setting. Just so intimate and magic like she is in our own church.❤️
She is amazing, her voice soars to the Heavens !
Musique. Muse ique.
Shattered by the flawlessness of this performance of pneumonia - as if it was solely created for this very moment 🤍
love this performance ♥️
Quelle artiste magnifique! Sa voix est un cri de liberté et d´innovation! Merci pour le partage !!!!!
Bjork's voice sounds amazing with horn symphony.🙏

Always have and will love, thank you all 🙏🏾
somehow, hear handbell choir and crotales layered atop brass choir… amazing textures, and her characteristic Nordic modal bent - enthralling
singing in her native language is a force beyond words...

Stunning from the first song
This woman is pure art 🎶
Bjork's voice - doors to another reality!
sublime l adore
She can channel the instruments through her soul! Pretty amazing!
Vökuró is my funeral song, how beautiful to hear this harpsichord (one of my favourite instruments) version.
Meu Senhor do Bonfim, que linda essa apresentação, não havia visto ainda, a era Volta foi a primeira que acompanhei da Bjork, lembro como hj de ir na lan house só pra fazer o doload do cd na net kkkkk.
Ouvi muittoooooo no meu MP3.
What an incredible performance. Tak ! This is a gem to return to again and again. There is no performer in the world quite like Ms Bjork. . we are blessed to hear her golden voice. Seeing her live three times, once in Reykjavik, twice in New York, was like waking in to a beautiful dream.
It's 6 in the morning and this is my additional heart medicine for the day. Thank you bjork❤
Love her! Wish she l would do a world wide tour and new album
so good 🥺🖤
The most beautiful singer in the world!
This is such good footage
I saw her at radio city music hall in the late 80’s. She was in the sugarcubes and she stole the show. Then Siouxsie played and blew my mind.
what a show!
Бьорк-- настоящая! Обожаю ее.Самая крутая,опередившая свое время на десятки лет.
Whoa. Thank you.

Bjork:what else?
Thank you for the sharing!
Awesome performance
Thanks, Bjork. Sending you much love from Lithuania, small town Vilnius. Gintare Maksimovsite
Fantastic chamber brass ensemble creates ceremonial atmosphere.
BJORK❤️🌹🇵🇱
props to them audience, too 😍
What an amazing version of Cover Me.
Outstanding, unplugged acoustic range is pure. She’s been blessed w/ a childish tender voice💖Cyndi Lauper is a little more raspy but I would love to hear the two songstresses collaborate together,Cyndi came from opera background they both have the same tilting in their voices,I of course love her singing in the “Mary Antoinette” movie- “Fools rush in” it makes a youthful freedom in her voice,She still has it!💐🌟👏👏🌹🌍
