I just hope that Carole Peppers will appear in Honkai Star Rail due to the short cutscene called ‘Reburn II’ where both Carole and Welt went to the express train to go to the other dimension. But if that is scrapped by Hoyo, I would be sad that we can’t see the character development for Carole in HSR.
I don't think she'll join in the same way as the concept trailer but with how APHO2 ends and the fact that Welt's story is also tied heavily to the Sky People, I'd be VERY surprised if we don't get story overlap at some point. like we know Welt is trying to find a way back to earth and there's zero chance Bronya/Tesla won't be trying stuff from the other end once they find out he's gone missing soooooo...
assuming Silver Wolf *IS* who things suggest she is, she's been hopping around the multiverse long enough at this point to not be phased in the slightest

To summarise there's some connection between honkai impact and star rail mostly due to the existence of characters welt and probably void archive who travel to a parallel universe(which is the world of star rail) from the world of honkai impact 3rd basically both of them is the same characters and not the parallel counterpart of them
I also refuse to accept that Silver Wolf isn't Bronie until MiHoYo themselves confirm otherwise which folds The Captainverse into things too which was already about multiverse travel so it wouldn't require much explaining to go "Haxxor felt like an adventure"
5:55 actually no, it's not like Welt not cares about humans, but his main purpose of his journey - save Himeko, that's it, nothing more or nothing less, actually Void Archieve target was to get rid of Honkai from Earth, cause of that he wanted to travel. And he actually already want to return to Earth, but literally can't for now.

1 more category of person who came to watch this video. Captains who got attracted by the word "honkai", came to see welt's exact connection, and see if you would recommend HI3rd to new players (and yes, HI3rd is amazing and you should absolutely play it)
While you probably won't need a deep understanding of the actual Honkai story and understanding of some key terms and concepts like just how bonkers the Quantum and Imaginary realms are is probably some worthwhile research. I also heavily suggest Alien Space as required reading, it's VERY important to Welts story especially as to how he got lost in space to begin with and as to why he's so fixated on helping this Himeko to "atone" for things in the past. possibly Second Eruption too as Welt is a pretty major player there as well.
This is actually an amazing video ngl as someone who has been playing Honkai Impact 3rd for about four years now i can say everyone who is new should watch this video as story is a very important and meaningful part of the Honkai Games and its truly magical and moving when you follow along with it.
I like to think that Welt in Star Rail is literally a figure of the Honkai Impact 3rd player base overlooking this new adventure and letting the newcomers enjoy the journey that is Star Rail. It's a neat parallel between the players and Welt.
This was a great video, but there is one big oversight that might confuse players if it isn't cleared up, and it's the fault of Honkai Impact 3rd's faulty localisation. Welt did not travel into a parallel universe. He simply travelled *across* the universe. Honkai Impact 3rd's Earth exists within the same Universe as the different worlds in HSR. It exists within the same universe as *alternate earths* even. However, HI3 mistranslates 'world' into 'universe' at just about every occasion. While this difference might not seem important now, it is likely to cause issues down the line, as the nature of the universe becomes more important. After all, miHoYo does make a distinction between universe and multiverse. So far, HSR translates these mostly accurately, but is a bit inconsistent with other space terms. Another confusing thing is that the word for 'universe' and 'outer space' are the same, which has led to faulty fan translations too as the translator tried to bend it to the HI3 translation.
If I'm understanding this right, are you saying that HSR is actually the same universe as HI3 and not in a different universe like honkai and genshin? ie. if Welt physically traveled far enough in the right direction, he could get back to his Tesla and little Joyce on Earth?
@@zameme383 It's a little bit more complicated. For the record, Genshin is also said to be in the same Universe. Essentially, HI3 routinely mistranslates 'world' to 'universe'. Even 'bubble universes' aren't actually 'bubble universes' but 'bubble worlds'. The Universe, born from a big bang, is said to *contain* the structures described as the Imaginary Tree/Tree of Existence and the Sea of Quanta. It is more than 3D. It's at minimum 11D. This means that we can't be sure if what separated Welt from his family is only 'space' in the classical sense of 'distance', or if he's separated from them in a more extreme way.

"Universe" refers to everything in the tree, instead of just a branch. Then, "Multiverse" will probably extend above to other trees, maybe other franchises, etc. Am I understanding this correctly?
@@zameme383 Not exactly. The full extent of a 'world' is not really defined. A bubble world can be as small as a backyard for instance. It's also implied the Moon and Earth wouldn't necessarily be considered a single world, but two. It's not 'a branch'. A Branch also shouldn't be thought of as a physical construct wherein worlds exist. Rather it's a representation of how you could map out 'time' if you were to try and put it into a human perspective. All of the stories confirmed to be connected so far have been part of a single universe. That's Guns GirlZ, Honkai Impact 3rd, Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. Tears of Themis and Zenless Zone Zero are not yet confirmed. The 'multiverse' on the other hand is still largely a mystery. There has been some talk about what's beyond the universe, but the archive entry for IX is as far as we could find the first time the term multiverse is used, so what it means concretely isn't certain. Universe is used as a pretty all-encompassing idea, so 'another universe' could be something similar to the first, or something that plays by different rules entirely.
Any Clamp manga readers, Honkai:Star Rail is basically Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle with the starting units being 100% new. The characters you meet that look like Honkai's characters are completely different from different worlds and circumstances.
Woah this is extremely interesting, it's nice to be given an insight why certain HI3 players talks about Welt and Himeko along with other lookalikes. It, I guess, prevents me from worrying or turning my head towards HI3- only to be turned off for HSR since I can't understand the dimensional hops thing exist.
Hoyo intends to make a game with multiverses in mind, without making new players confused with something. If you have time, you can read HI3's mangas where Welt made his appearances there before having him aboard to Astral Express. The only thing to worry is Silver Wolf herself. But for now, have fun playing the game, fellow Trailblazer!
If anyone is curious as to how in the world welt's ablilities to reconstruct his body and create black holes are part of the same skillset: Welt is the 2nd generation herrscher of reason (bronya being the 3rd) which's abillity is to construct anything they understand. Using this, he constructs an armament called the star of eden (an orb he walks around with) which can manipulate gravity
Welt's ability is what you described, Bronya and I think Joyce's (the first HoR) is actually different. It's little more complicated for anyone wondering, Welt never became a true Herrscher of Reason, Bronya and Joyce did. A true Herrscher of Reason does not need to fully understand something to recreate it, they can basically make the imaginary reality, I'm not talking about the in game imaginary, I'm talking about literal human imagination.
to be more precise, he generates a *replica* of the star of Eden, the original one is created from the core of the 9th herrscher of the previous era and would be much more powerful - for some reason it's just become the signature weapon of all the herrschers of reason to use a generated replica of star of eden

Gacha games ironically have some of the best storytelling and music in the video game industry. They really don't skimp out on the experience (*cough* EA *cough*) to promote their monetization, which gets people invested (literally too). Other games like FGO, Genshin, Girls Frontline, Arknights, Blue Archive, Granblue Fantasy, CounterSide, Azur Lane, Epic Seven, Fire Emblem Heroes, to name a few.
as of right now the only actual honkai references in the story is a few lines of dialogue from welt. however they could slowly be introducing people to the honkai-verse throughout the story which would be smart. if they keep introducing export characters or whenever carole comes into the picture i trust they will have explained things properly for new players.
I want to go on the record saying that Welt's Existence in Honkai Star Rail has a LOT more story implications than people are giving it credit for. A LOT. Welt is shown using the SAME powers he had in the Honkai Impact 3rd universe... which is the power the 1st Herrscher, A.K.A. Honkai Energy manipulation. Unlike the Genshin Impact team, which prefers it's "magic system" to somewhat vague and nebulous and fantastical, Honkai Impact's Team is on a completely opposite axis. The scientific explanations for Honkai Energy and it's affects on matter, space, and time is so incredibly detailed, referencing real Quantum Theory at many turns (though taking many liberties, of course), that it's a bit of an insult to the Honkai Team to just assume that Welt is just there "because". Welt's presence and ability to use his Honkai Energy-based abilities directly suggests that Honkai Energy either exists in the Star Rail universe, OR that Honkai energy is one and the same with the type of energy utilized by the natives of the Honkai Star Rail universe... which also suggests that the Will of Honkai may also have influence or sway in this universe. Let's remember that Honkai Impact's story started off relatively tame, setting up character backstories and the like, before it took off into a massive frenzy of destruction and death, so it's far too early to judge Star Rail's story potential, and just assume that there won't be serious implications and tie ins.
Just a little correction re: the Will of Honkai part: it's very unlikely that Will of Honkai exists anywhere outside of Earth's Current Era. In fact, it didn't even exist in the Previous Era, because... (Spoilers @ Elysian Realm + Chapter 31 EX, aka EX Chapter: Project Stigma) ... ... ... The Will of Honkai is PROMETHEUS, number 17 (but not to be confused with the No. 17 we meet - that one is from a bubble universe in which she was never used to become WoH). She was installed by Mobius at the very end of the Previous Era with the objective of assisting the Pioneers' planned Projects by manipulating the Honkai into manifesting the same Authorities that it did during the Previous Era. Without PROMETHEUS acting as the WoH, it's very likely that the Current Era would have seen Herrschers with completely different Authorities manifest before the descent of Finality. During one of the final chapters, we see Kevin approach PROMETHEUS to claim the authority of Finality, implying that the last remaining shreds of her consciousness (which Kevin was surprised to see) died upon doing so, thus also ending the entity we know as the Will of Honkai. I know that in GGZ, Will of Honkai is an actual thing that isn't man-made, but given that Star Rail spins off HI3, we should probably assume that the only will Honkai has is the abstract desire to "embrace" civilisations whether or not they're compatible with its dream-based form of existence.

The easy way to explain is : Honkai is the Core World and the other Games are all just branches of the Imaginary Tree, other Universes that might exist in Honkai but are never seen or focused upon. So no you don't need to Play Honkai before HSR.....but you should because the Story is amazing. Even the conection between Honkai and Gesnhin is vague at best, with the best theory i know is the "Project Arc" one

While welt is the original, I would also argue silver wolf is a maybe , since it is well established that Haxxor Bunny Bronie is a universe hopper and she has the ability to jump to alternate worlds after the arc light rebound event in honkai

I played a bit of HI3 for Li Sushang (immediately fell in love with her when she was released) but didn't get too far into it before dropping it (it was too complicated for me). Because of that I never really got too far into the story so like, this is really nice to watch! I didn't even know Welt was from HI3. Very informative, thank you!
I think the most important thing to read for Star Rail is Alien Space Manga. APHO mode in HI3 also explains a bit of Welt backstory but for Star Rail i think Alien Space Manga is enough of a background

More than the honkai characters I'm interested in the new characters like Tingyun, Serval and Jing Yuan. I'm going into the game as a new player who doesn't know anything about hoyoverse's other games.
This was so chaotic even as somebody who knows the backstory and has played honkai and read the manga 😭 I imagine newer players actually trying to understand it would be overwhelmed by this so to make the point of this video shorter , Welt Yang came from the universe of honkai impact with a AI named void archives and was later discovered and saved by himeko (our star rial himeko) after being lost in space and now he is on the astral express with himeko while void archives went his own way just before the arrival of us the trailblazer
I say nah but it would help you understand some of the concepts and characters from the main universe we know, other then this bubble universe. Also help you with some of your theories and it’s a rlly fun game I also hope they bring in fu hua bc well….SUShang needs hua frfr. Also Honkai starrail is a bubble universe for Honkai!! So all of them likely came from different bubble universes within the sea of quanta, which I’m pretty sure holds every different universe…So everyone from here is from different universes ( likely ) Which means Himeko is also from a different bubble universe within the universe universes ( likely ) As well as Kafka, bc it’s clear she’s apart of Honkai, just showcased in stigmatas. I don't think it's vital, but exploring the past stories is very impactful, to the point that I would consider doing so important. Honkai Impact was my first miHoYo game and I was more than fine understanding the story and the characters, but once I started diving into GGZ, it was like a door to an almost new world had opened. Suddenly, I began to grasp the true magnitude of Honkai, which enables me to rationalise the way it works. Similarly, Honkai Impact may help Star Rail players learn about concepts like the Imaginary Tree, the Sea of Quanta, bubble universes, Honkai, Finality etc. In other words, playing previous IPs from the Honkai series is very beneficial to do in general and mandatory if people want to begin seeing the bigger picture (although, at that point, they might also have to play Genshin 'cause that's definitely part of the Honkai-verse as well).
@@pixadragon46 Are you referring to GGZ? I can't play the game since I don't speak Chinese and my Japanese is that of a toddler's. Instead, I read/watched some of the story online, but recently I haven't had the time to do so.
I tried playing honkai impact 3rd a while back, but I just so bored with it because it was the beginning of the story, and then I realized that there was so much I needed to catch up on, it was just... a lot. And I'm planning on star rail becoming my new "Obsession," I guess you could say, so I was worried I would need to understand honkai impact first. Well I tried to play HI3 but the beginning story it is boring, most recent story is better tho. So I played APHO mode instead which also have some Welt backstory. I think the most important thing to know about it's Alien Space Manga story that shall be enough to understand what Welt is doing in Star Rail. And honestly the Manga is worth reading, it's my favorite Honkai manga, I do prefer the Manga over the game main story tho
I think Silver worlf and bronie (haxxor bunny) might be the same person because bronie can travel trough bubble universes, similar to welt but without the train

@@abaddon2040 You may be right. It's very strongly implied that Bronie is HoR, especially with what we learned from the Shattered Dimensions event. (Spoilers, in case they ever rerun it) ... ... ... A lot of people probably didn't read the absolute novel's worth of text logs, but they were ultimately about Luna Kindred saving that version of Bronya from the collapse of her original bubble universe, alongside a "Pearl" that was destroying it but which Bronie was described as "resonating" with. Which may or may not have been a Herrscher core, or at least something that operated on similar principles in that universe.

A bit correction 3:33 Welt power is not exatly manipulate gravity, Welt Power as Ex-First Herscher and Ex-Herscher of Reason is Authority of Reason, which is, allowing him to constructs things from nothingness as long as he fully/partially (can't really tell) understand how it's works, for example, if he understood how guns works, then he could create it. Now this is the tricky part, one of Previous civilization legacies is Divine Keys, a series of hi-tech weapons, created using the remain of Previous Era's Herscher's cores. (The [Void Archives] which was created from PE 1st Herscher's core works simmilar like Welt's power) One of those weapons is [Star Of Eden], it was originally Eden's weapons one of 13 Flame Chassers, it's a twin pistol that use Earth Herscher core to manipulate gravity, so i guess Welt and Bronya copy Star of Eden cores and reconstruct it in other form like cannon or bomb.
Atonement and saving another dimension humanity is fine, but is it good enough reason to not even bid farewell to his wife and son (even if it's just lil' clone of his long lost friend, original owner of name Welt)? And the ending of APHO2 didn't seem like "successful eradication of Sky People". And if we found Void Archives inside last boss in APHO2, Welt went to StarRail universe without him...

Correction There is two kind of "HI3" character in Star Rail First the alternative universe counterparts (expy), they aren't related at all to the other character : Himeko, Seele, Bronya Rand, Cocolia Rand, Kafka, Silver Wolf (Bronie), Luocha, Sushang Same character, got teleported in Star Rail universe : Welt and Void Archive (not be confused with Luocha that look like him) The universe counterparts also exist in Genshin like Raiden Ei (Mei), Yae Miko (Sakura), Bronya (Bronya Zaychick), Murata (Himeko Murata), Venti (Wendy), Zhongli (Welt Yang) and Nahida (Theresa)
Important to note that Welt still has the Star of Eden, even though the Herrscher Core is shattered :D. Not sure if that was mentioned, but the Divine Key is granting him power right now.
Can't wait for chapter 9 when Welt saves Himeko from getting Chapter 9'd and possibly dies himself to change that cruel fate! (note: 10000% speculation)

You could just Watch the Honkai Operation Centers, Honkai Chronicles and some of the other Important stuff, all of the Game Cutscenes if You want. It tells you some bits and Pieces of what happened in the Story (obviously not all of the things that Happened but it's still alot of the Important things), but they mostly focuses on 1 or 2 of the Main Characters (there are some exceptions). if your Asking me, this would be my Order of watch List 1. Honkai Operation Center: Introduction to the Honkai Verse 2. Honkai Verse Retrospect 3. Honkai in a Nutshell 4. Honkai Operation Center: Thunder Reborn 5. Honkai Operation Center: Fu Hua 6. Honkai Chronicles: Kiana Kaslana 7. Azure Waters (Bronya and Seele's Backstory Manga Recap) 8. Equinox Crusade: The Journey of Durandal 9. Honkai Chronicles: Otto Apocalypse 10. Honkai Impact 3rd Story Recap Animation 11. Honkai Chronicles: Herrscher of Reason. all of them are from Mihoyo/Hoyoverse themselves btw. You can choose whatever interests you, but the best Experience is legit all of them.
From my personal opinon I really want all the hoyoverse games to mix together in a way similar to how all the type moon games and novels are connected, like basically the actions of one character in a game affects another character in another game.
As much as i joke about Welt not being able to live with the failure and guilt of being the biggest reason THAT happened, I'd have to say Welt would be the best of us, humans, because even after all of this he never gave up on humanity and decided to get isekaid to both help a different universe AND right his wrong i just don't think our favorite old man can sleep that well(t) because everyday now he will be starring upon the person (or look alike in this case) he is responsible (or feel like) for her death, even more someone that was a the daughter of his former friends even
I think it’s obvious to everyone by now that playing a game as long as HI3 before Star Rail when it isn’t even a direct sequel is a bit unreasonable, especially when a lot of the connections can be summarised into videos like this. However, that doesn’t mean you should never play Honkai at all. All it means is that the ORDER in which you play them doesn’t really matter, and that there’s no rush. If you enjoy Star Rail for the Honkai characters in particular, that’s when you should start considering playing HI3. Like the video explains, other than Welt, the characters from both games are their own individual. However, they absolutely share parallels and while these parallels are not at all necessary in understanding the characters, they definitely add a lot to the enjoyment factor, for example Silver Wolf/Haxxor Bunny, Bronya + Seele, and Sushang & Luocha (Otto) - all of which you can see how they develop differently (or similarly) across different games. Keep in mind that as Star Rail (or even Honkai) adds more characters, the number of these parallels will continue to increase, although not necessarily by a huge amount. Also, this isn’t a new thing that only goes for Star Rail players, as many players who’ve played Honkai became interested in GGZ despite the fact that the game isn’t even playable on global anymore. 3:30 it might slightly throw people off because saying his powers can manipulate gravity and create Black Holes right after saying he was the 1st Herrscher would kinda imply that 1st Herrscher has gravity/Black Hole powers. to be precise, the 1st Herrscher's power is to create anything from thin air as long as he/she understands the concept of it. recreating tech and machine is the easy part and recreating a whole human body on a cellular level requires more compatibility with the Herrscher core. the Gravity and the Black Hole powers are actually abilities of the 9th Herrscher called Herrscher of Earth/Stars, who then was killed and his core made into a weapon called Star of Eden. and Welt using this weapon allows him to manipulate Gravity and create Black Holes. and being the Herrscher of Reason, and Star of Eden being a tech, he can create the weapon through his Herrscher of Reason powers even if the weapon breaks.
you don't really need to play any previous game to truly understand Honkai star rail. HOWEVER, if you do play it previous game such as Honkai impact 3rd and GGZ it would help you understand the lore alot better
Play the other games to get a feel for the themes and characters of honkai if one is interested. Star Rail will probably stand on its own, so not required to to play the other games.

To summarise there's some connection between honkai impact and star rail mostly due to the existence of characters welt and probably void archive who travel to a parallel universe(which is the world of star rail) from the world of honkai impact 3rd basically both of them is the same characters and not the parallel counterpart of them
I also refuse to accept that Silver Wolf isn't Bronie until MiHoYo themselves confirm otherwise which folds The Captainverse into things too which was already about multiverse travel so it wouldn't require much explaining to go "Haxxor felt like an adventure"

While you probably won't need a deep understanding of the actual Honkai story and understanding of some key terms and concepts like just how bonkers the Quantum and Imaginary realms are is probably some worthwhile research.
I also heavily suggest Alien Space as required reading, it's VERY important to Welts story especially as to how he got lost in space to begin with and as to why he's so fixated on helping this Himeko to "atone" for things in the past.
possibly Second Eruption too as Welt is a pretty major player there as well.

I like to think that Welt in Star Rail is literally a figure of the Honkai Impact 3rd player base overlooking this new adventure and letting the newcomers enjoy the journey that is Star Rail. It's a neat parallel between the players and Welt.
That's an Interesting one.
This was a great video, but there is one big oversight that might confuse players if it isn't cleared up, and it's the fault of Honkai Impact 3rd's faulty localisation.
Welt did not travel into a parallel universe. He simply travelled *across* the universe. Honkai Impact 3rd's Earth exists within the same Universe as the different worlds in HSR. It exists within the same universe as *alternate earths* even. However, HI3 mistranslates 'world' into 'universe' at just about every occasion.
While this difference might not seem important now, it is likely to cause issues down the line, as the nature of the universe becomes more important. After all, miHoYo does make a distinction between universe and multiverse.
So far, HSR translates these mostly accurately, but is a bit inconsistent with other space terms.
Another confusing thing is that the word for 'universe' and 'outer space' are the same, which has led to faulty fan translations too as the translator tried to bend it to the HI3 translation.
If I'm understanding this right, are you saying that HSR is actually the same universe as HI3 and not in a different universe like honkai and genshin? ie. if Welt physically traveled far enough in the right direction, he could get back to his Tesla and little Joyce on Earth?
@@zameme383 It's a little bit more complicated. For the record, Genshin is also said to be in the same Universe. Essentially, HI3 routinely mistranslates 'world' to 'universe'. Even 'bubble universes' aren't actually 'bubble universes' but 'bubble worlds'. The Universe, born from a big bang, is said to *contain* the structures described as the Imaginary Tree/Tree of Existence and the Sea of Quanta. It is more than 3D. It's at minimum 11D. This means that we can't be sure if what separated Welt from his family is only 'space' in the classical sense of 'distance', or if he's separated from them in a more extreme way.

"World" refers to a tree branch, a whole plane of existence, instead of just a planet or a solar system. "Universe" refers to everything in the tree, instead of just a branch.

@@zameme383 Not exactly. The full extent of a 'world' is not really defined. A bubble world can be as small as a backyard for instance. It's also implied the Moon and Earth wouldn't necessarily be considered a single world, but two. It's not 'a branch'. A Branch also shouldn't be thought of as a physical construct wherein worlds exist. Rather it's a representation of how you could map out 'time' if you were to try and put it into a human perspective.
All of the stories confirmed to be connected so far have been part of a single universe. That's Guns GirlZ, Honkai Impact 3rd, Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. Tears of Themis and Zenless Zone Zero are not yet confirmed.
The 'multiverse' on the other hand is still largely a mystery. There has been some talk about what's beyond the universe, but the archive entry for IX is as far as we could find the first time the term multiverse is used, so what it means concretely isn't certain.
Universe is used as a pretty all-encompassing idea, so 'another universe' could be something similar to the first, or something that plays by different rules entirely.

Woah this is extremely interesting, it's nice to be given an insight why certain HI3 players talks about Welt and Himeko along with other lookalikes. It, I guess, prevents me from worrying or turning my head towards HI3- only to be turned off for HSR since I can't understand the dimensional hops thing exist.
Hoyo intends to make a game with multiverses in mind, without making new players confused with something.
If you have time, you can read HI3's mangas where Welt made his appearances there before having him aboard to Astral Express.

If anyone is curious as to how in the world welt's ablilities to reconstruct his body and create black holes are part of the same skillset:
Welt is the 2nd generation herrscher of reason (bronya being the 3rd) which's abillity is to construct anything they understand. Using this, he constructs an armament called the star of eden (an orb he walks around with) which can manipulate gravity
Welt's ability is what you described, Bronya and I think Joyce's (the first HoR) is actually different. It's little more complicated for anyone wondering, Welt never became a true Herrscher of Reason, Bronya and Joyce did. A true Herrscher of Reason does not need to fully understand something to recreate it, they can basically make the imaginary reality, I'm not talking about the in game imaginary, I'm talking about literal human imagination.
to be more precise, he generates a *replica* of the star of Eden, the original one is created from the core of the 9th herrscher of the previous era and would be much more powerful - for some reason it's just become the signature weapon of all the herrschers of reason to use a generated replica of star of eden

Gacha games ironically have some of the best storytelling and music in the video game industry. They really don't skimp out on the experience (*cough* EA *cough*) to promote their monetization, which gets people invested (literally too). Other games like FGO, Genshin, Girls Frontline, Arknights, Blue Archive, Granblue Fantasy, CounterSide, Azur Lane, Epic Seven, Fire Emblem Heroes, to name a few.
as of right now the only actual honkai references in the story is a few lines of dialogue from welt. however they could slowly be introducing people to the honkai-verse throughout the story which would be smart.
if they keep introducing export characters or whenever carole comes into the picture i trust they will have explained things properly for new players.
I want to go on the record saying that Welt's Existence in Honkai Star Rail has a LOT more story implications than people are giving it credit for. A LOT. Welt is shown using the SAME powers he had in the Honkai Impact 3rd universe... which is the power the 1st Herrscher, A.K.A. Honkai Energy manipulation. Unlike the Genshin Impact team, which prefers it's "magic system" to somewhat vague and nebulous and fantastical, Honkai Impact's Team is on a completely opposite axis. The scientific explanations for Honkai Energy and it's affects on matter, space, and time is so incredibly detailed, referencing real Quantum Theory at many turns (though taking many liberties, of course), that it's a bit of an insult to the Honkai Team to just assume that Welt is just there "because". Welt's presence and ability to use his Honkai Energy-based abilities directly suggests that Honkai Energy either exists in the Star Rail universe, OR that Honkai energy is one and the same with the type of energy utilized by the natives of the Honkai Star Rail universe... which also suggests that the Will of Honkai may also have influence or sway in this universe. Let's remember that Honkai Impact's story started off relatively tame, setting up character backstories and the like, before it took off into a massive frenzy of destruction and death, so it's far too early to judge Star Rail's story potential, and just assume that there won't be serious implications and tie ins.
Just a little correction re: the Will of Honkai part: it's very unlikely that Will of Honkai exists anywhere outside of Earth's Current Era. In fact, it didn't even exist in the Previous Era, because... (Spoilers @ Elysian Realm + Chapter 31 EX, aka EX Chapter: Project Stigma)

The Will of Honkai is PROMETHEUS, number 17 (but not to be confused with the No. 17 we meet - that one is from a bubble universe in which she was never used to become WoH).
She was installed by Mobius at the very end of the Previous Era with the objective of assisting the Pioneers' planned Projects by manipulating the Honkai into manifesting the same Authorities that it did during the Previous Era. Without PROMETHEUS acting as the WoH, it's very likely that the Current Era would have seen Herrschers with completely different Authorities manifest before the descent of Finality.
During one of the final chapters, we see Kevin approach PROMETHEUS to claim the authority of Finality, implying that the last remaining shreds of her consciousness (which Kevin was surprised to see) died upon doing so, thus also ending the entity we know as the Will of Honkai.
I know that in GGZ, Will of Honkai is an actual thing that isn't man-made, but given that Star Rail spins off HI3, we should probably assume that the only will Honkai has is the abstract desire to "embrace" civilisations whether or not they're compatible with its dream-based form of existence.

The easy way to explain is : Honkai is the Core World and the other Games are all just branches of the Imaginary Tree, other Universes that might exist in Honkai but are never seen or focused upon. So no you don't need to Play Honkai before HSR.....but you should because the Story is amazing. Welt Yang came from the universe of honkai impact with a AI named void archives and was later discovered and saved by himeko (our star rial himeko) after being lost in space and now he is on the astral express with himeko while void archives went his own way just before the arrival of us the trailblazer

I don't think it's vital, but exploring the past stories is very impactful, to the point that I would consider doing so important. Honkai Impact was my first miHoYo game and I was more than fine understanding the story and the characters, but once I started diving into GGZ, it was like a door to an almost new world had opened. Suddenly, I began to grasp the true magnitude of Honkai, which enables me to rationalise the way it works. Similarly, Honkai Impact may help Star Rail players learn about concepts like the Imaginary Tree, the Sea of Quanta, bubble universes, Honkai, Finality etc. In other words, playing previous IPs from the Honkai series is very beneficial to do in general and mandatory if people want to begin seeing the bigger picture (although, at that point, they might also have to play Genshin 'cause that's definitely part of the Honkai-verse as well).

Well I tried to play HI3 but the beginning story it is boring, most recent story is better tho. So I played APHO mode instead which also have some Welt backstory.
I think the most important thing to know about it's Alien Space Manga story that shall be enough to understand what Welt is doing in Star Rail. And honestly the Manga is worth reading, it's my favorite Honkai manga, I do prefer the Manga over the game main story tho

A lot of people probably didn't read the absolute novel's worth of text logs, but they were ultimately about Luna Kindred saving that version of Bronya from the collapse of her original bubble universe, alongside a "Pearl" that was destroying it but which Bronie was described as "resonating" with. Which may or may not have been a Herrscher core, or at least something that operated on similar principles in that universe.

Now this is the tricky part, one of Previous civilization legacies is Divine Keys, a series of hi-tech weapons, created using the remain of Previous Era's Herscher's cores. (The [Void Archives] which was created from PE 1st Herscher's core works simmilar like Welt's power) One of those weapons is [Star Of Eden], it was originally Eden's weapons one of 13 Flame Chassers, it's a twin pistol that use Earth Herscher core to manipulate gravity, so i guess Welt and Bronya copy Star of Eden cores and reconstruct it in other form like cannon or bomb.

And the ending of APHO2 didn't seem like "successful eradication of Sky People". And if we found Void Archives inside last boss in APHO2, Welt went to StarRail universe without him...

bronya from star rail is native to her universe, while I have suspicions that silver wolf bronya is a character who is in a similar circumstance to welt

There is two kind of "HI3" character in Star Rail
First the alternative universe counterparts (expy), they aren't related at all to the other character : Himeko, Seele, Bronya Rand, Cocolia Rand, Kafka, Silver Wolf (Bronie), Luocha, Sushang
Same character, got teleported in Star Rail universe : Welt and Void Archive (not be confused with Luocha that look like him)
The universe counterparts also exist in Genshin like Raiden Ei (Mei), Yae Miko (Sakura), Bronya (Bronya Zaychick), Murata (Himeko Murata), Venti (Wendy), Zhongli (Welt Yang) and Nahida (Theresa)
Important to note that Welt still has the Star of Eden, even though the Herrscher Core is shattered :D. Not sure if that was mentioned, but the Divine Key is granting him power right now.

Actually wanted to know the whole story of HI3 since i heard it's really good, but then it's been out for many many years so the content was overwhelming.....can now start fresh with Star Rail (kinda)
You could just Watch the Honkai Operation Centers, Honkai Chronicles and some of the other Important stuff, all of the Game Cutscenes if You want. It tells you some bits and Pieces of what happened in the Story (obviously not all of the things that Happened but it's still alot of the Important things), but they mostly focuses on 1 or 2 of the Main Characters (there are some exceptions).

From my personal opinon I really want all the hoyoverse games to mix together in a way similar to how all the type moon games and novels are connected, like basically the actions of one character in a game affects another character in another game.
The Nasuverse is quite infamous for being mixed together the way it is now though. It's especially frustrating if you're interested in lore
As much as i joke about Welt not being able to live with the failure and guilt of being the biggest reason THAT happened, I'd have to say Welt would be the best of us, humans, because even after all of this he never gave up on humanity and decided to get isekaid to both help a different universe AND right his wrong
i just don't think our favorite old man can sleep that well(t) because everyday now he will be starring upon the person (or look alike in this case) he is responsible (or feel like) for her death, even more someone that was a the daughter of his former friends even
I think it’s obvious to everyone by now that playing a game as long as HI3 before Star Rail when it isn’t even a direct sequel is a bit unreasonable, especially when a lot of the connections can be summarised into videos like this. However, that doesn’t mean you should never play Honkai at all. All it means is that the ORDER in which you play them doesn’t really matter, and that there’s no rush.
If you enjoy Star Rail for the Honkai characters in particular, that’s when you should start considering playing HI3. Like the video explains, other than Welt, the characters from both games are their own individual. However, they absolutely share parallels and while these parallels are not at all necessary in understanding the characters, they definitely add a lot to the enjoyment factor, for example Silver Wolf/Haxxor Bunny, Bronya + Seele, and Sushang & Luocha (Otto) - all of which you can see how they develop differently (or similarly) across different games. Keep in mind that as Star Rail (or even Honkai) adds more characters, the number of these parallels will continue to increase, although not necessarily by a huge amount.
Also, this isn’t a new thing that only goes for Star Rail players, as many players who’ve played Honkai became interested in GGZ despite the fact that the game isn’t even playable on global anymore. So all of this isn’t a bad thing, it’s just something extra for the dedicated players and there’s nothing wrong with ignoring it if you’re not interested as long as you aren’t being disrespectful, as they are meant to be homages after all.

3:30 it might slightly throw people off because saying his powers can manipulate gravity and create Black Holes right after saying he was the 1st Herrscher would kinda imply that 1st Herrscher has gravity/Black Hole powers. to be precise, the 1st Herrscher's power is to create anything from thin air as long as he/she understands the concept of it. recreating tech and machine is the easy part and recreating a whole human body on a cellular level requires more compatibility with the Herrscher core. the Gravity and the Black Hole powers are actually abilities of the 9th Herrscher called Herrscher of Earth/Stars, who then was killed and his core made into a weapon called Star of Eden. and Welt using this weapon allows him to manipulate Gravity and create Black Holes. and being the Herrscher of Reason, and Star of Eden being a tech, he can create the weapon through his Herrscher of Reason powers even if the weapon breaks.

you don't really need to play any previous game to truly understand Honkai star rail. HOWEVER, if you do play it previous game such as Honkai impact 3rd and GGZ it would help you understand the lore alot better
Play the other games to get a feel for the themes and characters of honkai if one is interested. Star Rail will probably stand on its own, so not required to to play the other games.
