My reverse box didn't have the reinforced drive pulley shaft, but the build is so much simpler this way. Thank you.
Can you show how to do it with a 420cc?
I built a similar setup to go on my golf cart project. I mounted my motor on a piece of Chanel iron with slotted tabs and mounted the gearbox on a piece of plate steel with vertical tabs that would slide inside of the channel iron so I could adjust the belt as needed.
I made a mount that bolts the F/N/R gearbox directly to the engine. You do need to use a longer belt. I'm surprised nobody seems to market a mount kit for a 212 to F/N/R box setup. From videos I've seen many people don't realize that the driven pulley fits the gearbox input shaft.
Do you have a video or picture of your set up?
I have one of those tucked under a predator 212 on a havoc m5. All custom mounted. Been reliable and my family loves it!
Can you post some pics of it or private message me I recently got a havoc m5 been doing a bunch of stuff to it and I wanna put a gearbox on it thanks
How crazy! I'm building this very soon for the kids on a yerf dog. I had no idea what belt to buy. Thank you!
Dose the box decrease speed at all
If the finances allow this will be next for our yerf dog. Thanks for sharing this Red Beard!!
Would you consider making this a purchasable plate? Or go power sports? Seems like a plate like that could be part of a kit!
I like the setup, but think the mounting plate would benefit from having some vertical stiffeners added under the section that hangs off the back of the GPS engine mounting plate. Better yet would be a GPS style engine mounting plate long enough to mount the reverse box directly to it behind the engine.
Great start to my monday
Nice. Would be interested on seeing the internals
I've been looking at these forever but I really wanna know what they look like on the inside. I'd probably trust it pretty blindly with a 212 predator, but you can make a lot more power than the sticker says on all the small blocks...
Not much to see. Gears and a yoke to slide the gears from forward to reverse.
I have that gear box on a 440 duromax, it's held up just fine
Post a vid?
@@777nicklebackfan Lol, you're just gonna have to take my word for it. Otherwise I can send you a few photos
@@paulhopkins1905 I believe you I just wanna know it's set up and how much abuse she can take on a big block
@@777nicklebackfan It's a stock motor with the governor removed. Its on a rather large kart, with a 40 series TC
@@paulhopkins1905 and you've sent it hard with no problems?
Dose the gearbox decrease speed?
Thanks Red Beard!! Been wanting to install reverse on my Yerf Dog 3203. Finally a good video to help me with my project..
I like mounting Transmission across from the rear pulley on a Comet 30 by running the trans shaft through the pulley housing and bolt it on. Then it is a direct 420 chain on a 12T trans sprocket to the live axle 54 or 60T below.
What type of gear oil do you use?
I have a 440 duromax I can't seem to find a reverse gearbox for that much power do you know of one that will work?
Polaris ATV gearboxes will work in your situation. You want one for a Trail Boss 350 if I remember correctly.
@@MrStealth654321 on that I am not sure. I would guess a 40 series or the one from a Polaris ATV.
@@holtpage8226 Yeah me ether been looking at them on ebay Im not sure if the Polaris driver will work on a one inch keyed shaft Or if i use a 40 would the driven pully work on the Polaris May half to do some machine work. Looks like they have splines on them
Love this, any thoughts on producing these and selling this as a kit?
I can’t wait for the next video. Great job.
Loved the sneak peak man
Thank you! Finally a way to install it without the jokes and off brand ways to trash your build!! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Will this work with a centrifugal clutch? Thank you.
Total noob here, are the pulleys part of a torque converter? I didn't find them in the material list
I have the same question... Are the parts attached to the gearbox part of the torque converter? Like, did they disassemble the converter then mount that stuff to the gearbox and engine? I'm gonna keep scrolling and see if I find the answer. Have you found the answer?
Do they have theses for the 15hp engines with the 40 series CVT??
i bought one for a 420 and got a 30 series that could handle 18hp. Mine is the go powersports one
Hey bro, could you please make the 2nd part of this video? Where we can see the rest of the installation. Greetings from Panama 🇵🇦
Ideas on what to use to make my Duromax 420cc go in reverse??
Same, but for a 670cc predator.
Nice simple video
Good no nonsense guide
Should the breather cap be left on? oil leaks while driving, does this happen to you?
You are the only one that has the engine mounted rigid to the main frame with a chain tension, the others mount the engines on a swing arm mounted plate not needing a chain tensioner. I Have a 94 stock gas cart FE290 in it. Debating to just swap engines. I also have a 93 electric FLOOD cart, along with a fiberglass jeep body. I might just start from scratch and modify this frame to except the gas Pred. 420 motor that i also have. Pro’s and cons to the two different ways to mount the motor and trans??? Great video by the way.
Damn, the video’s changed before i got done typing. Sorry.
Wow I been waiting on this video to drop since last year !! But I guess I got it all figured out months ago before the video came out lol
your great budy ,you know what you are doing just save me lots of time.
First time watching your channel. Wondering why you did not put it on a slide mount? Makes no sense at all mounting that solid when you had a sliding engine mount plate. Now when ever you need to change a belt you have to fight with it every time.
How does the reverse gearbox change the current gearing of the go kart?
You guys should make one of your mini bikes manual 😨
Hello RBG GREAt videos... Which reverse gearbox would you use for a 300cc or even better a 400cc? Thank you before hand for your answer. What gearbox would be best for a predator 670 , besides CVT
I have a counter clockwise engine, it would work if I could put power to the output shaft of the transmission but not sure that would be a good idea, any ideas how to change the input to counter clockwise ? Thanks in advance .
You're using a clutch? Can you use a reverse gearbox when using a torque converter?
I think you should do some railroad speeder stuff too.
Liking the new intro! Thanks for the video!
I haven't looked at site yet,but hope they make or have big block reverse in stock because i'm converting all my small blocks into big daddys here soon.
They don’t that’s the only reverse box.
I could give you the basics on how to build one with chains if you would like. (I'm working on a plastic prototype using gears and my 3d printer in my spare time).
@@dodgeme1986truck That would be great other than softball season right around the corner and it leaves me little time to fab stuff. But I'd still be interested in what you come up with. Keep us posted. Thanks
@@mkuhlman77 to make it use 2 input shafts, stack them one above the other, the top one will be spun clockwise the bottom counterclockwise each one gets driven via a sprocket from your engine, place an idler sprocket for the input chain directly below the lower input shaftsprocket , to direct the chain around the second input sprocket the chain gets pulled by the engine wraps over and behind the top shaft sprocket in front of and under the lower input shaft sprocket and then wraps behind the idler sprocket and returns to the engine... inside the trans you will have a sprocket fixated on each input shaft these sprockets will drive 2 chains one clockwise the other counterclockwise which will drive 2 sprockets on the output shaft, you will select either forward or reverse by engaging the pin/dog clutch to the sprocket for that direction (you will want both sprockets on the output shaft to spin on bearings when not selected). add your final drive ratio and you are all ready
another variant is the double belt drive uses the same 2 input shafts and single output shaft however the clutching would be done by v belts and a double tensioner the tensioner idler pulleys would move up to tension and engage the forward belts( bottom of the belts is the slack side) and the tensioner idler pulleys would move down to tighten and engage the reverse belt (top of the belts is the slack side), for a 420 engine a minimum of 2 b-belts would be required for each direction,... with pulleys no smaller than 4 inches in dia. and do your gear reduction after the transmission (belts like to spin faster) When idling in neutral neither the forward nor reverse belts should have any tension upon them
Dude you have that beautiful table and you dont have a plasma cutter? Maybe esab would sponsor one for you.
This is what i need to see.. got this tombetland cart.. DOA.. six cruddy batteries that yes are likely shot.. but im not buying all those bats to find theres something bad im the several modules between.. i hate electric anyway.. tge weight loss will be substantial with those batteries gone and free up some room for whatever needs to be done..i was looking into 125cc auto reverse atv engines to fit in there.. horizontal engine with reverse built perfect for theclow profile area.. but i mess with these predators on mini bikespresure washers and generator.. i like the cheap prices, and performance.. but now i see theres a wsy to add reverse.. you got my mind set on whsts going in this this dead ass e cart here.. wishn i could twin it.. but im on a 212cc budget ..
thanks.. for information i needed to find
Great video.You explained it perfectly.
How is everyone mounting the package to the cart? Does it float with the axle or mount to kart and use some sore of tensioner for the chain to axle?
Nice. Have to get one for my M5.
Could you make a reverse gearbox assembly for a Murray Kilowatt? I really need one. If the trip wasnt so far I would bring my gokart to you
Is there a center to center measurement specific for that pulley size and belt belt number?
Парни! Подскажите, в этом реверсе возможно вывести вал привода, с другой стороны, сделав отверстие в крышке реверса, перевернув приводной вал?
Im sure someone asked this but how did you mount the driven pulley on the gear box? I cant find a 5/8 pulley without a welded keyway already
What kind of gear box would be best for a predator 670 , I plan to make a board tracker with a predator 670 and what a transmission/gearbox besides cvt
Hello BF Did he ever answer you?. Waiting on the same QA?
Does anyone know the actual oil capacity we should use in these FNR boxes? I see 250ml on the case but someone said that putting that amount in is actually too much and blew the seal out!
I recently bought a go kart and the instructions don’t say how to change ,check or what type of oil.could tell or post a link to help I appreciate it
How much would you charge to make one of those reverse gear mounting plate
I did the same thing on my lids trailmaster xrx.
What torque converter are you using
Has this held up? I'd really like to have reverse on the kart, but am cautious to this lasting? With a 212 stage 2.
Yes! Its on our eton rover that my son rides.
@@RedBeardsGarage dose it decrease speed at all
There's knockoffs on Amazon that claim they can take 14 hp. I wonder why this one is rated so low? 🤔 I'm sure the Amazon claims have to be taken with a grain of salt but still interesting.
What gear oil should you use?
Your installing that in the mobility scooter right?
How does that reverse box handle a 10 hp engine but not an 8 hp engine just wondering
Im in need of a fnr gearbox but sprocket is right side drive only seen afew input outputs on left to right. Normally just on same side . any idea where to find ? Bless
Can these be turned on their side to be used with a verticals shaft engine??
How would you do this with a chain instead of a belt?
Very similar however you will want to add a means of tensioning the chain either via motor mount slots on the transmission base plate or an auxiliary tensioner arm on the coast side of the chain. you would put your centrifugal clutch on the engine like normal, and the driven sprocket on the transmission input shaft like normal.
The same way
Is the gear ratio the same for forward and reverse
No
What kind of gearbox can I get for a 400cc predator
Good to know.. awesome video thx!
Would this reverse gearbox work with a DuroMax 16hp engine?
How long is this all together
How strong is that gearbox
MADE IN CHINA !!!🤣🤣
QUESTION: If I flip my engine so the output is on the right instead of the left, flip the reverse gearbox as well, then, on the gearbox, use the output for the input and vice versa, would that hold up? With that setup, you'd have overdrive going forward and more or less 1:1 in reverse. With the appropriate sprocket changes, you could have the same wheel speed as with a conventional install. I would be using a backplate with my torque converter and NOT running the pulley directly on the gearbox, so yes, I'd have two chains. I'm asking because if I do it this way, I can line up my gearbox output to my axle sprocket directly and skip needing a jackshaft or mounting the engine WAY off center. This is for an electric-to-gas golf cart conversion, so I can't change where the rear diff input shaft and sprocket is. I can't think of any reason it WOULDN'T work, but I've never used one of these before, so wanted to make sure there wasn't some "gotcha" that might blow the gearbox up, reverse continental drift, infuriate the Martians, or whatever. :)
Nice
What make and size is the motor?
You should get a plasma torch
Do they not sell the plate?
Only link to parts working is for the belt
Love the videos!
I'm guess this wouldn't hold up to a 2 stroke triple 600. Trying to find a simple reverse gearbox for it
Look up motorcycle reversing gearbox unfortunately they are $$$$$ but anything less will fail unless you build it yourself... the way to build it yourself via chain input requires 1 output shaft and 2 input shafts 1 cw, 1ccw rotating via chain drive, an idler sprocket to cause the input chain to wrap the backside of the reverse input shaft, 2 sprockets attached to the input shafts (min 60 pitch for that power lvl) 2 sprockets for the output shaft (you will want both output shaft sprockets rotating on bearings) and a pin or dog clutch that engages with the output sprockets
I wish go power sports would make a stronger one of these
links not working.
Is there any gear reduction in the transmission? That would be nice to reduce the sprocket size.
30% reduction in forward gear.
@@DJP4LibertyVevor says it's 1.13:1 in forward, 1.26:1 on reverse.
ok so the identical gearbox i bought rated for 2-16HP was a scam and will fail with a 420? well... the stock golfcart rearend lasted 3 years and 630km with 0 maintenance before it failed and that just cost to dang much and parts are discontinued so i figured go this route if it fails i could always replace the whole gearbox for $172 vs the input shaft i replaced on the stock golfcart trans for $680 that was the wrong size dispite being the correct parts number
Is that your brother's picture in the background on the wall?
Does anyone make a similar gear box for a 301cc
