Bettas and oscars are the most intelligent fresh water pet fish Imo. I'm not surprised he discovered his fishes can be taught. Bettas and oscars show a heightened sense of awareness and understanding go the life outside of their tanks. It J's really neat to notice them notice new things
That is so awesome and a very beautiful fish. I at one time was thinking of getting a Betta Fish, but I have enough with my 2 birds. Gorgeous tank as well. That is one happy little fish. Great job!!!
My mom got my Betta to jump for the first time yesterday!! I was so happy!!! Now he jumps whenever I hold brine shrimp over the tank. He loves brine shrimp. They're his fav.
beautiful aquarium and fish man, i just bought a betta (he came with a tiny, maybe half a gallon plastic tank). i already ordered a 10 gallon tank for him :)
Aww I bet this was more fun and more productive than the equivalent time you spent in the last two weeks. Better than watching TV, any day! Be a curious creative human; it's fun :) Cute betta!
i too have a betta he is healthy active and smart and i luv him mainly dont disturb ur betta when they are sleeping feed them variety of foods and feed them boiled peas twice a week and dont keep schedule to feed ur betta
I will give you a like ,not because of the trick, but because you have a betta in a huge tank,I really hate when people place bettas in tiny bowls,Is like placing a fish in a small prison cell, nice fish and nice tank, that's a lucky betta :)
my betta never needed to learn tricks. He just knows them. He-- he follows me, reads the word FOOD and PLAY, and raught himself who my family is. I say my names, he looks at me. I say my brother's name, he looks at my bro. Mom's name? Dad's name? My betta fish is cool. SO IS URS!! UR BETTA IS SO UNBEARABLY CUUTEEE!!!!
whats the best way to keep a 10 gallon tank clean for a betta? I had a low flow filter and it freaked him out. I tried a bubbler too and he went and hid.
taping the glass can cause strong vibrations in the water and small tanks make it worse fish have very sensitive hearing so it can cause stress on the fish just something to keep in mind people but it is after all yours so do what you want
I saved three young albino aeneus cory catfish with my spare cash, the water quality seemed fine at the shop, but they didn't have sand as a substrate, actually, they didn't have any substrate. its only been a few days and I love them :)
its a myth that fish have short memory. many fish (even goldfish) can learn tricks. i have taught my Betta to flare on command in five minutes and he is still doing it even now. for that one i just showed him a mirror so he saw a "enemy" Betta and flared. i then put a bright colored pen cap in his sight, i did that twice and he now flares at the cap. every once in a while he needs a refresher though. :D
Hey, when I train my betta fish, I always end up overfeeding him, and he gets a bloat and must be fasted for several days. Is there any way to avoid overfeeding the fish, while still teaching him to do stuff? Thanks!
I got blessed with a really social betta. She occasionally likes to chase my finger and she allows me to gently pet her when she's at the surface. However I wish she'd break her habit of playing dead.
I have a orange crowntail betta . He is not playing with me . He just eat and roams here and there . He doesn't know how to play soccer with a ping pong ball . can u tell how to teach him some tricks .
Hey everyone, I plan on getting my betta, Demon, a 2.5 gallon tank this week he's in a 1 gallon right now. I was wondering if I should get a larger one or is the 2.5 is enough? Please respond if you have any suggestions :) thank you!
if you want him to follow your finger your finger should be in the water a split second before every feeding. then he will have focus on it because it signals food. i trained a whole school of guppies to respond to this when i was 5
Ah...I got Supreme Leader Snoke (yup, huge SW fans here) for my husband for Christmas and we both love him so much. In the process of buying one, though, I did tons of research online for how to care for him and became so stressed out by all the people hounding on each other for how to take care of their fish. Surely we can all learn from one another without putting each other down all the time? I'm grateful for the comments that have helped me, but the negative attitude and "I know how to take care of your fish better than you do 'cause you're STUPID" poisons the Betta community. I'm not saying that there aren't cruel ways people care for Bettas, but we should change to an attitude of helpfulness instead of snobbery.
Well with betttas the stomaches are tiny and if u feed them loads of food they could get swim bladder which swells the belly and loses alot of energy its really hard to treat my 1st betta had that :/ and the black and white 1 i had
tapping the fish glass can cause stress to the fish. i think there is a food sticks available for the fish training and is way better than tapping the glass
hey i think that the trick is cool but you can really hurt your fish by doing that because when you tap on the tank it makes a shock wave in the water which could shock the fish to death.
They shouldn't be kept together or in a divided tank unless you are planning on spawning them. Not only will they attack each other, but the female will become egg bound and possibly die from the stress. Since the male releases something in the water that basically says "I'm a male, here I am!" it's why I wouldn't recommend keeping them in a separated tank, either.
if those are dry pellets you were probably feeding him too much. a pellet the size of his eye will last him two days. dry food swells in their stomach, and if you overfeed it can make them sick or kill them. you should always soak dry food for ten minutes, and never overfeed.

Yup, watching paint dry is really fun. Eating paint off the walls is fun to, especially the paint with lead.
i too have a betta he is healthy active and smart and i luv him mainly dont disturb ur betta when they are sleeping feed them variety of foods and feed them boiled peas twice a week and dont keep schedule to feed ur betta

The Betta is looking at him like "what the fuck is this s**t, just give me my sky food already."
Plus he has an amazing tank with plants and everything for the fish
he is soooo cute, i'm in love!
SO CUTE!!! :) Do you think I could teach my guppies to do this?? Lol!
That works with every animal. Trick for a treat......
That's so cool! My betta fish knows how to jump for food and now im training him to swim through hoops although its not goin g well
my betta never needed to learn tricks. He just knows them. He-- he follows me, reads the word FOOD and PLAY, and raught himself who my family is. I say my names, he looks at me. It will eat your fish
Newst comment - Awesome active betta , is that still alive ?
what times do you feed him during the day?
Is that a pipe cleaner? if so is that safe for the betta?
taping the glass can cause strong vibrations in the water and small tanks make it worse fish have very sensitive hearing so it can cause stress on the fish just something to keep in mind people but it is after all yours so do what you want
good to know u also like to listen to Enigma !
I saved three young albino aeneus cory catfish with my spare cash, the water quality seemed fine at the shop, but they didn't have sand as a substrate, actually, they didn't have any substrate. its only been a few days and I love them :)
fish: Oh God damn! I have to do this trick every day and I do not even have a name.
its a myth that fish have short memory. many fish (even goldfish) can learn tricks. i have taught my Betta to flare on command in five minutes and he is still doing it even now. for that one i just showed him a mirror so he saw a "enemy" Betta and flared. i then put a bright colored pen cap in his sight, i did that twice and he now flares at the cap. every once in a while he needs a refresher though. :D
I’m soooo teaching my betta to do this!
Great video! :)
How do u keep the plants in the back left alive? I got them and they are dieing
I just make a loop with my hand and my Africans swim straight through...
Thought this was normal..
Hey, when I train my betta fish, I always end up overfeeding him, and he gets a bloat and must be fasted for several days. Is there any way to avoid overfeeding the fish, while still teaching him to do stuff?
Thanks!
Try breaking the pellets in half if you can.
Soak the pellets so it won't bloat. Get frozen bloodworms aswell they can eat a lot more of those and not get bloated.
I got blessed with a really social betta. She occasionally likes to chase my finger and she allows me to gently pet her when she's at the surface. However I wish she'd break her habit of playing dead.
Are you sure she's not just sleeping? 'Cause they sometimes look dead when they're sleeping due to them staying very still.
did you name her "velvet" ?
I have a orange crowntail betta . He is not playing with me . He just eat and roams here and there . He doesn't know how to play soccer with a ping pong ball . can u tell how to teach him some tricks .
cause i have fishes since i was a little kid...and i know their behaviour very well
Hey everyone, I plan on getting my betta, Demon, a 2.5 gallon tank this week he's in a 1 gallon right now. I was wondering if I should get a larger one or is the 2.5 is enough?
Please respond if you have any suggestions :) thank you!
my betta learned to open the fridge and grab me a beer!
How did you make the hoop?
What a trick. Cool...
Can I use a hair elastic to use the hoop??
I gave u ur first like julien
that is so awesome!
if you want him to follow your finger your finger should be in the water a split second before every feeding. then he will have focus on it because it signals food. i trained a whole school of guppies to respond to this when i was 5
ive never tried watching paint dry... is it fun?
This is a 10 gallon tank. There is no optimal size really, but i would recommend at least a 5 gallon tank.
how will it catch and infection im not saying your wrong but how im curious

So thanks for sharing your video, Julien, and I'm sorry that the comments can get so ugly.
Many People doesnt Understand this that Fishes are smart.. not just well trained :3
Cutest thing EVER.
Maybe she's sleeping. Mine does that but I've come to understand he's resting.
Hahahaha. Oh, please dont give betta use controller in water or betta probably gets electrified! :o
what is the hoop made out of?

How many gallons or litres is that tank

What material did u use for the hoop?
its a pipe cleaner
EzCrafter It looks like the wire used for artwork. The ones with many tiny hairs..
its like a puppy :)
tapping the fish glass can cause stress to the fish. i think there is a food sticks available for the fish training and is way better than tapping the glass
What's the name of the music?
lmao the betta at 20 secs was like ahhh ahhh ahhh. SIKE fuck u im not going in lol
hey i think that the trick is cool but you can really hurt your fish by doing that because when you tap on the tank it makes a shock wave in the water which could shock the fish to death.
great trick but you can be over feeding your betta fish… the trick to not over feeding them is the stomach is the size of his/her's eye size. :)
They shouldn't be kept together or in a divided tank unless you are planning on spawning them. Not only will they attack each other, but the female will become egg bound and possibly die from the stress.
Since the male releases something in the water that basically says "I'm a male, here I am!" it's why I wouldn't recommend keeping them in a separated tank, either.
are bettas more intelligent than guppies?

a pellet for two days is far too little
what do u do if your betta fish will not eat
How do you make the ring
How big can u keep It in tank
Wow that's cool.
Yes! Hahaha great reference! :D
You can try using straws maybe or anything that does not have sharp edges.
Thats cool but is that fun for your fish
