Those old stores treated its employees very well. Today's corporate chains are the worst.
God bless Huell. He is missed.
These ladies (and gentleman) and their families were part of the “greatest generation.” They defended our freedoms in war, built the great buildings and founded and run companies who gave prosperity to millions of Americans.
I completely agree, so sad we have lost that type of generation. (breed)
Thank you to the contractor with integrity that helped rebuild this building. I wonder if there are old movies with this building filmed.
Thank you, Southwestern University School of Law, for restoring this lovely memorable building. All we can do is pray that someday the Tea Room can be opened to the public someday, especially now in 2024 that America is finally on a journey to health.
I remember My Mom shopping at May Co, or Robinsons . And Bullocks. They all had a cafe type eating area. . This was around the 60s and 70s early eighties . She just loved it .
I remember taking the bus to Bullocks Wilshire with my Mom, often we would have lunch in the Tea Room. So many fond memories.
RIP Huel Howser❤🩹. Thank you for doing this segment. Mahogany and velvet like the gentleman said.
Huell, the California/LA historian, weaving past, current and today, thank you ..,.Huell
Hate to break to too you but huell is dead.
@@norcalemt02I don’t think you actually hated to tell it
My grandma lived across the street from this gorgeous building
Bullock’s represented quality products and classy department stores with wonderful staff !
We had the same thing happen in Philadelphia with John Wanamaker's and Strawbridge and Clothier.
my husband and i went there often. there was the campest maitre'd there who was so cute.
Anytime a piece of historical architecture has been preserved and saved from destruction we Americans are greatful 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤
I miss Huell
Me too … fuck cancer
As wonderful as it was that Southwestern saved it, it is almost worse to see it in this cold emptiness. The current tea room in no way resembles the warmth and beauty of what was once there. I question what kind of a city would require a law school to save a building of such magnificence.
+D elderful
I remember how elegant, beautiful and also what a treat it was to be able to shop or just even walk through Bullock's. I think the demise of this beautiful relic was the construction of Shopping Malls in the suburban areas of Los Angeles.
Loved Bullock’s !
Sad !
this was great. i used to live down the street from this building in k town.
I can still remember my Bullock’s account number after all these years, just as I do my Social Security number.
I remember being taken to the Tea Room after my pediatrician appointment for a strawberry malt and cheese burger with onion rings. I long for these days gone by 😢
the elevator man never dies.
but he has his ups and downs. . .
I was hoping they would show us whats up in the tower
I was given a private tour of Mr. Bullock’s apartment adjacent to the tea room. It was wood paneled, had wonderful views of the city and a fireplace.
Bullock was a great establishment. Northridge Fashion Mall was the last store I visited
Anytime a piece of historical architecture has been preserved and saved from destruction we Americans are greatful 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤good things never die especially when the memories are in your heart ❤️ so special they sold great products and gave great service 😊😊😊😊
I used to have lunch there with the giftware buyer in the seventies. They carried the West Coast’s largest collection of Boehm Porcelain
The buyer’s offices were located in the basement, where all the window props since 1930 were stored in literally every nook and cranny. When the store closed there was a sale of all of these props..
This closure happened a year after the LA riots destroyed all of the first floor display cases in this building. I wonder if that had anything to do with its quick closure after that.
I'm sure the closure was in the works way before the riots (I was ten yrs old when the riots occurred) the riots probably played a very small role in the closure. My mom shopped at Bullocks Wilshire and I Magnam.
Yes, it absolutely was - it was heartbreaking.
@@danielleporter1829 how do you if the riots had anything to do with it
Memories😊😢❤
What happened to bullocks? Walmart is what happened.. Amazon is what happened… Outsourcing to China is what happened. The giant sucking sound that Ross Perot warned us about is what happened. Lol
I feel nostalgic. :( we lost treasures through these transitions.
@@ulexite-tv yes,, well he seemed to have the economy as the main priority. I wonder how it would of been if he won.

Different people different time. Now they are eating tacos and shopping at Walmart...lol
What's wrong with tacos ?? I'd rather eat Taco's then some bullshit watercress sandwich, any day, all day !!
@@ms.martiegallego8834 It would be nice to have the opportunity to each both...it's not like there weren't any taco places in Southern California in 1990.
What an 'improvement'.
Lol
I want to know what's in the tower!
Jimmy Hoffa's body.
me too! I was hoping they would give us a tour of whats up there...
Cross streets for this place?
White street South, and white street North !!! LOL !! Not really funny, but where were the people of Color ??
@@ms.martiegallego8834 First of all, there were a lot fewer 'people of color' around as a proportion of the population in 1993. Second, you wouldn't expect white people (or black people) at a Selina concert back then. Just because mostly white people enjoy something doesn't make it bad. This place had class...unlike your white gallego a**
Wilshire btw Hoover & Vermont
@@ms.martiegallego8834 😄
The thumbnail lady's are all probably dead.
Too much interruption by the host.
Where are the people of COLOR ?? I don't think I would have gone there or supported them in any way !! All these "ladies" seem so wasp like !! Again, I ask , Where are the Blacks, Browns, and Other people of color ???
It's history, not racist. Put down the Kool aid.
lady, you need to chill out with this. three comments with these insane ramblings.
my godmother took me there on my birthday and outfit me head to toe. no one wondered about colors, it was all about being mannerly, classy, and polite to one another.
LOL. You're white. Gallego is what the South Americans call a Spanish immigrant.
I'd also guarantee you that some of those folks he interviewed were Jewish and the lady with the 'charge plate' looks to be of Italian descent.
