      Thanks for watching Richard. That's awesome. I've taken my young boys to the park once. I hope to get them out on a weekend backpacking trip at the park later this year. Making memories!

      BlessingOfAdventure oh I know. I just got back and I'm already ready to go back. When you get done with the AT, we need to take a trip out there.

    Thank you for the video. I'm doing bush/Marcus/Tejas loop from dog canyon. Should I go up bush and down Tejas or vice versa?

      I enjoy going up Bush and down Tejas. Bush requires you to really be looking for the trail in some places. Where Tejas is really straightforward. That is a great side of the park.

    Great video. I loved seeing Lost Peak again; such great views. Got engaged on that peak last year then spent a windy, sleepless night at the Dog Canyon campground. The wind howling through the canyon made sleeping impossible. I love Dog Canyon anyhow, and I want to go back soon. The northern end of the park is my favorite.

      FlyCheeseFry oh yeah, the northern end of the park is great. Probably my favorite as well. I got lucky that there was no wind in Dog Canyon that night after the sun went down.

    I noticed you’re wearing Sketchers. Do you recommend those?

      I actually think I had on Salomon trail runners. I've never tried sketchers before. The Salomon's were great even though they were some of the cheaper ones.

    Great info and videos, we just went for a hike from Pine Springs up Tejas to Pine Top campsites. Planning on going back and spending more time on the trails on top.

      Kelly Lane you should for sure. There is so much to explore up in the mountains! It's a very underrated National Park. Pine Top was my very first trip to GUMO about 15 years ago.

    these are GReat videos, watched parts 1 and 2 in a row.. awesome catch of the Buck checking you out that was really cool. loving the scenery, lots of good views and interesting desert/mountain combination of plants up there. Got to snowing hard enough we can see it on the video // trail looks pretty tough in some spots, good job getting so many miles done. nice walk in the meadow at the end.

    Thanks for sharing your trip!
    Heading out there in March, so we were wondering how much winter weather/precipitation there was. Good to know there isn't tons of accumulation.

      Hope your trip goes well. Wish I had a chance to get out there soon. Besides the spring winds, you should have pretty decent weather.

    Hey Cameron, great vids - this helps us plan out for our Guadalupe trip we are doing in March. Can you tell me if they have bear boxes at the backcountry campsites? I'm trying to figure out if I have to bring my bear canister or not. At Big Bend we had to just keep our food in the tent but I'd prefer to not do that if I don't have to. Thanks!

    • @CameronHall88
      @CameronHall88  7 років тому

      Natanino Montagnolo they dont have bear boxes anywhere and you dont have to carry a canister. While i know there are a few bears out there, i have never heard a ranger even mention them. I know its controversial but i sleep with my food in the backcountry at GUMO. I keep my food in my car at basecamp because i dont want rodents getting into it.

      Awesome, thanks for the info! Great to know! We'll just do what we did at Big Bend - bear canisters are a pain to carry!

      @Uaglione91 7 років тому

      Yes we did, we had a great three-day trip base-camping two nights at Mescalero. Thanks to Cameron's vids we had good intel and nabbed the nice campsite with the view. The ranger said to hang our food but I carried in a bear canister which may have been overkill in retrospect.

      MrCloudseeker I've seen bear scat on Marcus trail. they are out there for sure!

      Tim Eubanks that's cool. I've seen pictures. That's about it. But at least it proves they're out there.

    Hey Cameron, great video again! Do you sleep poorly everywhere you camp? It could be due to the elevation if it only happens in the mountains. I slept around 7-8000 feet after doing Wheeler Pk. last year and really had a rough night. Anyway, the video is awesome and it makes me want to get back to the north end of the park again and do the loop of peaks that I have planned out. McKittrick ridge is part of it, and that looks really cool. Looking forward to part 3.

      Zachary Teich I never sleep well. I have slept best in a Warbonnet Ridgerunner Hammock but i still wake up. I normally sleep the first half of the night and then wake up once an hour the last several hours. Its all good though. Its worth it to get out backpacking. Man, I'm already looking forward to getting back out there again and i just got back. Its hard to find the time with a job and a family.

    • @ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer
      @ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer 7 років тому

      Yeah, I know it's tough to find the time, and especially due to the length of the drive. I'm lucky my wife lets me sneak out when I do, but I often have to get up at midnight, do the drive (more Big Bend recently), then hike, then get back in the car and get back. But it is worth it. Hopefully, I will be in Arizona in 2 weeks for a week of hiking there and visiting my family, and plan on making some videos.

      Zachary Teich man that sounds crazy leaving around midnight! I have left at 3 and 4am a few times and thought that was early! My wife is fine with me going but I still feel bad for leaving her with our 2 boys by herself because they are so energetic. I look forward to your Arizona videos. That sounds awesome.
