    how to establish the communication between an okuma lathe and a pc by RS232 ports and what programs to transfer files can I use?

      try DNC precision software however you have to modify your RS232 cable first... there is instructions online
      once the cable and your computer are all set up, you can then get ready to transmit file. it's not that hard. you need to set up your software parameters. instructions again are readily available. do the same thing on your okuma controller to then transfer or receive files.

    That's all nice, but why PLEASE isn't the z-offset on the probe corrected to a fixed longitude in the machine, eg. the face of the chuck and the face of the revolver?? - This makes everything much easier; no "master" tool is needed, and program z-zero offset macros are a lot easier to make! - That way, the tool length offset equals the tools lengt from the face of the revolver - and the macro offset inside the prgogram equals the length from the face of the chuck to, whereever on your workpiece, you want z-zero to be :)

      Bruno Hougaard I agree. I personally like FANUC controls. I just started a new job. It has a Okuma with osp E100L. It's not a bad machine. I've been a machinist/CNC for 16 years. Most of that time I was milling, and a lot a manual lathe. Only been doing CNC lathe work for 1 year.

      May I ask how do you "correct the Z-offset on the probe to a fixed longitude in the machine, e.g. the face of the chuck"? Do you use a dial indicator to touch the face of the chuck and then use the dial indicator to touch the face of the probe tip?
