We just had this same cruise last week. You were correct it doesn't have as much on board activities as one of the "party" boats but we didn't want that. We wanted to relax and this ship provided that. If you were looking for non stop thimgs, this isn't the ship for you. Our excersions were all on time and no issues and I was shocked because of the landslide in Ketchican the day before we got there. We completed our survey back to princess yesterday and our big beef is leaving the theatre on deck 6 and they force you to go through the casino and you end up smelling like an ashtray when you come out. It was silly to go up one deck to avoid it and then go back down to deck 6. Need to make the casino, non smoking.
You are correct that princess is not the best when it comes to activities. That’s where carnival comes in. They are the party ship. We’ve had fun on both. Princess is def the cruise line for those who are just looking to relax and do nothing while cruising in elegance. Thanks for the review.
We are 65, on a different Princess ship in Alaska. This was our second Princess Cruise and our last. Agree with everything said. Will go back to Royal Caribbean or Norwegian. Also, loved, loved Alaska.
@@jamesince2258 glad to hear it’s not an age thing! No one wants to be that bored no matter their age 😂 I will definitely consider other cruise lines for future cruises!
I think most cruises to Alaska need to temper peoples' expectations as well as know your own activity requirements. If afternoon trivia isnt your idea of fun and you'd rather have something a little more active or jumping or similar, you may want to stick with Norwegian or maybe give Royal Caribbean a go. I think a lot of people underestimate the number of sea days on an Alaska cruise and if you're not content to read a book on your balcony or enjoy the thermal suite or similar slower activities on sea days then people will be disappointed in an alaska cruise on a cruise line like Princess or Celebrity or even Holland America. You definitely seem to be more of the active type. And that's awesome! Maybe giving Royal Caribbean a try might really work well for you on one of their Quantum class ships. Lots and lots of stuff to do on Royal without it needing to be a "party" ship.
I get your feeling about activities on the ship while cruising during the day but to be honest we didn’t care as we’re in Alaska. We spent a lot of time outside viewing the scenery and looking for whales and other wildlife. We found in the afternoon/evenings the activities and entertainment options were great.
I cruise Princess often and will be on the Majestic in a few weeks. I enjoy Princess for the relaxation, evening shows, comedy, Lotus Spa and the art shows. But overall, Princess is A1 for relaxation, peace and quiet. No kids running amuck. No fights near the pizza bar at midnight. I'm not spending big money to go sail in the midst of a ruckus, like I see on most cruise lines, especially Carnival. I've sailed Celebrity, Norwegian and Royal Carribean as well and the only difference in my opinion was a slightly younger adult crowd and way more kids traveling.
Alaska on Princess is the most relaxing and safest cruise one could ever take. We were on the Grand Princess for 14 days and it was great. Yes, Princess does cater to an older crowd and some folks in their 30s and 40s do get bored. I suggest Carnival or Virgin if one is that frisky. The cruise director can make or break a cruise. We went on a South Pacific Cruise on the Sapphire Princes. The Cruise Director was ARRRmando and his assistant was Victoria (the Cruise Barbie and Nerrando as well). These four people made the cruise fun. The interaction between Armando and Victoria was fabulous. They were the best comedy team we ever saw. Sorry your cruise was not up to your expectations.
Princess is ideal for relaxation but if you want to a varied cruising experience try a different cruise line. I’ve been on 6 Princess cruises and once I tried Celebrity and Royal Caribbean I haven’t booked another cruise with Princess. My wife is taking a Panama Canal cruise on Princess. 11 days on the Emerald Princess was a no for me.
I always go "yeah duh" when UA-camrs preface a review by pleading "this is my opinion, it's ok if you disagree, I don't hate you if you disagree" etc but jeeze these comments are a pretty good example of why! Princess will survive a UA-camr not enjoying one of their cruises, folks. You don't need to fight for them! Saying someone is an entitled brat for saying "yeah we didn't have a great time, the planned activities didn't entertain us" is ahhh... a reach. Anyways, wanted to drop a comment after seeing all of those and thank you for your review, it was helpful! I am a similar age as you and am planning an Alaskan cruise and trying to figure out what line to take. I was considering Princess because they have the great itineraries Holland America has and I thought they might be slightly less... sedate. Like you my friends and I are also not partiers and I feel like we don't need Carnival but we would like to have something to do every so often. This is a great perspective to take into consideration as I think you're more like us than their target audience.
@@soothsayersourdough Thank you so much for saying that! As paying customers we are entitled to enjoy ourselves and if we don’t, we are also entitled to have an opinion 😂 I have heard that other cruise lines could be a better option for Alaska so I hope you’re able to find one that’s enjoyable for you and your friends! We just went on the same cruise and agree with most of your points. We didn't do a single thing on the ship besides the spa one morning. The drink package definitely helped pass the time since theres so much time sailing. It was our first cruise and probably our last. Haha.
Went on a Princess cruise to Alaska in September 2023 and I did feel bad for the young couples that were on board. There is not much for them to do. Thanks for sharing your video and thoughts.
To quote you..."Maybe it was just my age"... I think sums up your video. You might prefer Royal or Carnival more. Princess is #1 in Alaska. Also, you would probably have loved the whale watching in Juneau. Two separate cruises we got to observe "bubble feeding". Mendenhall Glacier was a stop after our whale watching excursion. When you get old like me you don't get as easily bored...lol.. Enjoy it while you're young.
My son, who is 24, and I went on this cruise June 23-30. I don't know how old you are, but you seem a bit entitled and a complainer. We had a blast and my son loves Princess. The ship is beautiful and people were having a great time. Your Skagway excursion should have been booked by Princess and the beginning time would have not been changed. That is on you. There was a lot to do--you evidently didn't research your Princess Patter or even attempt to enjoy yourself. There were Princess Live game shows, Puppies in the Piazza, Enrichment lectures and Galley tour and Captain Q & A. Perhaps, instead of panning Princess, YOU should have done YOUR research. There was ample buffet choice of food at all food venues and it was delicious. Carnival is probably the cruise line for you. I'd love to read your review on that cruise! Just my view. Happy cruising.
@@thekellyroberts I just saw in another video that the nightlife on the Majestic is pretty much non--existant. My wife is going to be maaaaaaaad! She's the type who likes to dance the night away.
We're going on a 10-day to Mexico in a week, and we are looking so forward to it. We had also gone on the Alaska cruise with Princess, and, yes, it was a relaxed cruise, but we thoroughly enjoyed it enough to be sold on cruising. I had time to enjoy hobbies, and having a biology degree, I loved the Naturalist talks and enjoying the views.
If you seek to be entertained all day every day on a ship, you need to stick to carnival, Royal Caribbean, or Norwegian. Princess, Cunard, Holland America, geared for taking you from Port to Port comfortably, not for providing you all day every day entertainment.
Uh, it sounds like you just didn’t do your research or planning (ahead) of what each cruise line offers, very important when cruising, with more cruises done you will realize this! There are disapointments I find for each vacation I take! That’s life!
We just came back on the exact ship to Alaska. Interestingly we found ourselves busy with all kinds of things to do and plenty good foods to eat on the ship. Great foods well prepared and well presented. The worst part onboard was the standards for service courtesy was way down. While a lot of servers were very nice, others didn't know how to treat customers. Our last cruises during pre-Covid era was far better.
