    The Silver standard is awarded to locks that can withstand 5 minutes of Guy, or 5 seconds of The Lockpicking Lawyer

    This is the second home in which ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).

    It’s nearly a full year since this video was published - is anyone aware of the new 2021 regulations that were mentioned at the end? and if any smart locks are currently compatible with the new UK standard?

      I was just looking for this myself. It looks like they tried to pass a bill in the U.S called the 'Cyber Shield Act' but it didn't go through. I can't find any new UK legislation.

    Did they get it right after 2 years? Or are we still in the same as it was during the time you recorded this video?

      If you pay top shelf you might get a good one but software will always be hackable it depends on your security mindset and how you set up your system.

    Why spending 5 minutes on a lock when you can open a window in less time than that?

    Locks keep honest people out. It's a deterrent for crime of opportunity, not for a professional thief/burglar.

  • @jameswatkinsiii7834
    @jameswatkinsiii7834 Рік тому +1

    Thank you for being honest, smart locks have stupid security. The communication needs to be multiple streams of encrypted data and they need chips with enough room on them for upgrading the firmware as bugs are found and patched.👍

    I love smart lock just because it is so convenience . You don't need to carry keys all people in your house can use their finger print or passcode . don't think that is more or less secure .thief can get in your house in many different ways . most of the door in US are glass . just take a few second to break or cut a hole they can rich the lock from inside to open it . just don't store valuable things in your house . nowadays many good smart lock is so cheap under 100 buck why bother to buy yale

      Real security is layered. Glass breaks have really come down in price but if they are wifi then your network needs to be hardened as well. Motion Sensors are also a option but they can be blinded by intense lumens or defeated by covering that does not reflect infrared.

    No smart lock is secure as any burglar would just either break a pane of glass around the door and reach in and open. alternatively poke a stick through letterbox and press button. All smart locks have to have a panic mode in case of fire.
    So vulnerable why bother trying to wack it with a hammer. Just reach in and open

    Definitely not close to the old locks. Old locks properly installed are far superior. Update the EU door cylinder so it can't be snapped.

    sadly the software on pretty much all IoT things is utter garbage. Even if it is not, might be vulnerable to emp, magnets, and thousands of vectors to get onto your phone, network, security modes and so on.
    I am a programmer, so i think i work with computers enough to know that the Internet of Things and all these smart devices need another 10-20 years until i will remotely trust them with anything

    Such a frickin click bait on lowest level. What simpleton would use brute force against the Yale lock when there're more elegant and silent ways.
