Ten years later and this is still one of their best cds ever. Classic Dokken riffs with incredible playing by Jon Levin. He does such a close Lynch its fucking scary.
Levin used to give brand new guitar necks& pickups all the time to a One Chris Iacone, Guitarist and Bandmate of mine from 88-91 New York Cities own POWER SURGE @the Jamaica Music Building. Great times.Great people.
Many thanx DreamTheater Jr for uploading this great Dokken´s Lightning Strikes Again!...This is my very first time to see and hear this excellent material...I´ve spent a very entertained 51:41 minutes...GREAT CONTRIBUTION...Greetings from Santiago, CHILE. PS: Please continue uploading good albums like this one that i will listen them attentively from South America. In my opinion, "Heart to Stone", "How I Miss Your Smile", "I Remember", "Judgment Day" and "Release Me" are the best songs of the album. 45 years old in February 2018 and still listening!...ROKKEN WITH DOKKEN!
A pretty well rounded album. It captures the earlier atmosphere of the classic first albums. Don is still pretty strong vocally, the songwriting and lyrics are better than some of the earlier album offerings. I love George Lynch to death but wow, Jon manages to capture a lot of his techniques and keep the music dynamic.
Broken Bones also has some incredibly good songs on it as well. It really was sad that all these guys couldn't get along. They could have ruled the world for a long time.
Don came down with cancer shortly after this album was recorded, but his voice is coming back and he's losing the weight from the radiation treatments. He also had vocal cord surgery for tears in his vocal cords. Don is making a full recovery and I think we'll see the familiar Don Dokken we've always loved. I watched a video of him at the Whiskey a Go-Go in March 2015 which can be found on UA-cam. He sounded pretty damn fine to me. Long live Dokken, forever!
Fayde Dnamron Totally second your statements. Wish Dokken the best and I'm seeing him at Treasure Island Casino in Minnesota on Sep 4th. Can't wait. Just got the tix. Dokken always and forever.
Amazing...absolutely fucking amazing! This album is just killer! As is "Broken Bones" Anyone says Dokken still doesn't Rock....isn't listening. Jon Levin had big shoes to fill and has done an amazing job...
+countrysamurai i got alot of catching up to do...never even heard broken bones or shadowlife yet..i'm half way through Dysfunctional and fucking blown away !
+Tim Kapeller Enjoy the ride my friend...Rock and Roll is alive and well. I absolutely love this album and the others as well. I met George Lynch at a Guitar Clinic a few years ago...it was incredible to shake the hand that has played so many blistering solos!
First Dokken album I ever heard. Love the classics, but the 1st track off of this album is definitely in my Dokken top 3. Probably with Unchain the Night and Mr Scary.
No cabe duda que siempre Don Dokken ha sido el genio, si quitar el talento de George Lynch, mas, Dokken sigue siempre adelante , como todo en la vida debe ser, gracias Dokken por dar sueños y Paisajes Musicales
several listens to this today.. huge Dokken fan and have all the other albums Love Lynch, but....think this is their best ever! Thanks for uploading DT jr...:)
It sounds consistent on your first few listens but when you hear it enough you realize the entire style and sound of the album changes from lighter songs like give me a reason to heavier songs like it means about half way through.
this is the last dokken album where don dokken still had his voice... today don dokkens voice is totally shot... this album miss lynch, but its the best we get of a dokken album that was released in 2008. my favorite dokken albums will forever be 'tooth and nail' and 'back for attack'....
in terms of consistency under lock and key is one of the best albums as i like all the tracks except slipping away and not since its bad but just not my cup of tea.
First time I have heard of this album. Very Dokken sounding even without Lynch and Pilson. Amazing how the rhythm sounds like old stuff from Under Lock and Key. But you can tell Lynch is NOT there.. just by the solos. Levin does try very much to emulate Lynch, a lot close too. Almost like Lynch was there to show him how to play it. Honestly they need to get back together. Nobody is winning including the Fans, with them fighting among each other. Time for a new DOKKEN original lineup album and tour.
This is a solid record, Maybe even considered a "comeback" because it charted as well. Pretty amazing in 2008 for an 80s "hair" band...aka 80s hard rock. All the tunes rock except for "How I miss Your Smile". I consider it a dud and it's more for a Don Dokken solo album and not a Dokken album.
Interestingly, the sound and style you all credit to George Lynch does not exist in Lynch Mob or other post Dokken Lynch work. Perhaps the sound and style is more the product of Don Dokken...... just saying. I don't care who the players are. This album is bad ass. Sound is killer. Lyrics are good. Guitar solos are great. Everything you would ever want from a Dokken record is here. Very Good. It's easy to be a critic. I would imagine George Lynch's ego was quite tedious.
+Paul Steinbrueck For not caring who the players are you seem to be taking a side in the Lynch vs Dokken feud. Perhaps Lynch did not want to put out a follow-up album to Under Lock & Key, which is what this album sounds like. If Don Dokken tells Jon Levin "Play just like George Lynch on this album", and that is exactly what he does, then yes they will sound like Dokken did back in 1985.
I would like to comment on the same, I have been listing to Lynch Mob and really does not sound like Dokken. I was thinking that it is probably more Don D that Lynch or Levin. I know Don played guitar so it is possible that that is his sound and not theirs.
LRN that's really not the case....George of course is the sound that most of us grew up being in Dokken BUT as a guitar player I can tell the difference right away he is NOT copying Lynch at all EVEN though some of the riffs are similar....Jon is his own guitarist....he might have copied Lynch's OLDER Dokken albums BUT this is Jon...ALL Jon/....
NOT true Chrissy....Jon might have spent weeks copying the older Dokken albums he has his own style.....and I'm sure Don wanted it to be close sounding but as a guitar player I can tell the difference immediately.....
Seriously what is wrong with the die-hard Lynch fans, on albums like erase the slate they make fun of the album for not having the classic Dokken sound and a non-Lynch guitar. Then on this album, the die-hards make fun of it because they say it's Don desperately trying to copy the old sound then they call Levin a mediocre copy-cat.
@@schecter5035 Right? I love Lynch, he's an absolutely amazing player, but Dokken has this weird mini fucking cult around him and it drives me nuts. There are still people who talk trash about later Dokken albums for not having Lynch, TWENTY years later, even when the people taking his place have been just as good.
What's the point? Lynch is an incredible egomaniac and combined with Don's ego, they don't do anything good anymore. And Jon Levin is a fantastic guitarist. Why is it that rock and metal fans are only fixated on names and not talent? Levin is more than capable here and won't get his due, ever because of stupid rock and metal fans stuck in the past.
***** I just don't think it's the same Dokken without Lynch and Pilson. If those guys plus Mick Brown can play together in their own band, surely they can get over each other long enough to do a tour and maybe a new album... I mean for all the problems they have over creative control, it's not nearly as bad as Eddie Van Halen's band issues, right?
@Tom Anderson You're giving the impression of an easily angered misunderstanding dumbass on a rant. As far as first impressions go you aren't even on the scale.

Damn though, its sad the 80's died so early in the 90's Firehouse's first album was incredibly powerful sounding even if the writing was the classic cheese of most the hair bands.

Levin coped George's entire vibe from tone, to his trademark slow bends and dissident minor phrasing on solos.... having said all that, it sounds killer, because Lynch is one of my guitar heroes.
I thought it was Lynch at first too but the more I hear it I can tell it isn't but sure damn close.....guess Don was trying to keep the momentum going after the smoking Back for the Attack album

ESP/Mike ...I had the opposite experience. I've seen Dokken with and without Lynch, and Don reeked with arrogance backstage before and after concerts. George was so cool and down to earth it was almost off putting by contrast. I know people have their bad days, but multiple times is hard to dismiss with me. And I for one will say Don's voice sucks live, and has for a looooong time. He can't hit the notes, and mails it in on every song. 20 years ago on the Dysfunctional tour Pilson practically sang more songs then Don, and was doubling him on the others. I wish Lynch wouldn't ad lib so much on his solos, as he seems to get bored playing them like the record. I very much loved Levin and Reb's live playing and recreation of Lynch's fret work
Hard to believe that it has already been 10 years since this one was released. To me LSA is still one of Dokken's top-5 albums, up there with Back for the Attack, Under Lock and Key, Tooth & Nail and Dysfunctional. Great, modern sounding hard rock album.
My favorite Dokken albums listed favorite to least favorite. (including Don's solo album) 1. Under Lock and Key 2. Up from the Ashes 3. Back for the attack 4. Tooth and nail 5. Dysfunctional 6. Erase the slate 7.Breaking the chains 8. Broken bones 9. Lightning strikes again 10. Hell to pay 11. Long way home 12. Shadow life
This band knows how to write fucking songs, and how to release a proper album (minus the one that wasn't even worthy of the trademark logo). This album is start to finish, superior. "Give Me A Reason" is as good as any song they have ever written.
Unreal, I did not even know about this album. But Cajsa Johansson is right. The last time I listened to an album from beginning to end, was in the 1980s, Van Halen 1 until now. Cant wait to hear Empire, hope its as good.
Ah man.... Even though i think Lynch is great... His style seems to be easily emulated... If you listen to Don's solo album 'up from the ashes' that sounds very much like Lynch Dokken, John Norum does a great job on there and it's a kick ass album. Just like this, it sounds like Lynch Dokken. I wonder if it's the guitarists trying to sound like Lynch, or just sound like Dokken to fit in... It's strange how this band always seems to wind up having the same great Dokken sound.
I think you misunderstood the point of this comment thread. We're saying that this album sounds like Dokken in spite of George Lynch's absence from the record.
Gives me the exact same feeling as classic 80s Dokken: total indifference. Probably all nice guys, obviously all talented, but there's no songs that do a thing for me. It's the musical equivalent of a wafer thin margarine sandwich with the crust cut off.
I loved Dysfunctional, I enjoyed Shadowlife too. I like all of Dokken's work from the original 1981 Breaking the chains all the way to Broken bones and every song beyond and in-between.
I think the reason why Don's projects sound like "dokken" and George's don't is because George is constantly creating new projects and sounds and, of course, he unconsciously is trying to move away from that mind set. It's understandable with all his animosity toward Don. George sounds like George and he wants to continue to experiment, good or bad. Lynch mob has produced some great Material... George like, but not dokken like. Don has a talent and a mind set that produces a certain sound. He never deviates. Some people can't. George can, a bit more than some, but as much as others but I feel more than Don. Suffice it to say dokken was all 4. Period. Even with all 4, all bands only have a certain amount of winners that they create. Van Halen blew their load after 1984 and shortly after 2 albums with Sammy. AC-DC never had the same legendary writing after thunderstruck. Some say it was done after just a few good songs on those about to rock. Great album here and I'm glad to see them come together for the last 7 shows of their existence. I wish I could see them since I never did get a chance. I hope they can move forward as friends, Don continues to get healthy and we live happier ever after
Don and Klaus go way back. When Don was making a name for himself in Germany with his friend and Michael Wagener (around 1979 or so), he met up with the Scorpions and they wrote some stuff together. They're pretty much vocal doppelgangers so they were a natural fit, and you can definitely hear the crossover influence on both bands' albums.
I remember reading back in the day that Don almost became the singer for the Scorpions before "Blackout" because Klaus was having problems with his voice after "Animal Magnetism"
+Dennis Wooten Sometimes it's more complicated. "Highway to hell" is an album where the producer slowed down and sped up a few songs. So neither is standard tuning nor half step down or up.
Jon is a great guitarist. But he's had to listen to so many Lynch riffs. He's still not the guitarist that George is and no dokken is never going to be the same as it was during their first four albums with Don, George, Jeff pilson, and Mick
Imitation is the best form of flattery. It's a little sad that Jon doesn't have his own sound. Having said that, I didn't even realize for a while that this wasn't Lynch. His mimickery is absolutely unbelievable. Back in the '80s, George used to joke that Warren does him better than himself (or something like that), but Warren was not even close to the fascimile that this guy is. It's truly blowing my mind. (Yes, I am way behind the times commenting on this now, but that's bc I'm high school class of 88 and that's the real Dokken to me, plus the first 2 Lynch Mob albums - George is my favorite)
No….. not true. Levin is playing great on here. He is emulating George who is a guitar god. We don’t disrespect guitar gods, there is only a handful and George is one.
Ten years later and this is still one of their best cds ever. Classic Dokken riffs with incredible playing by Jon Levin. He does such a close Lynch its fucking scary.
Your not kidding.
I thought this was George at first. Nailed his style and tone, wow.
You mean Mr Scary? 😂
WHAT! Damn i thought it was george the first track

They haven't been this good since the 80's.
Yes they have. They were this good in the 90's, and in the 2000's
I can't stop listening to this album.
It's a great album! I bought it when it was released and I still listen to it often. It has that classic Dokken sound
The guitar work is terrific on this album! I was surprised to find out it wasn't Lynch.
Broken Bones also has some incredibly good songs on it as well. It really was sad that all these guys couldn't get along. They could have ruled the world for a long time.
Fucking hell. Dokken forever. Thank you for the upload DreamTheater Jr.
GREAT album.. total classic lynch sound... even though its not him.. amazing work..
Don is a great songwriter. George always a technician. This album is flawless. Dokken's BEST album. Period.
Not George on this record - but otherwise correct
Don came down with cancer shortly after this album was recorded, but his voice is coming back and he's losing the weight from the radiation treatments. oh yeah, this is a kick ass album, one of their best
don dokken is the sound of Dokken.....here is the proof - Levin rocks.

Jon Levin is totally underrated and unappreciated. Sad really. He kicked ass with Doro in Warlock.
First Dokken album I ever heard. Love the classics, but the 1st track off of this album is definitely in my Dokken top 3. Probably with Unchain the Night and Mr Scary.
Damn....his solos are just screaming!

several listens to this today..
huge Dokken fan and have all the other albums
Love Lynch, but....think this is their best ever!
Thanks for uploading DT jr...:)
+John Harrison I maintain the position that George Lynch's accusations at Don are little more than obvious projection
Lynch NEVER praises Don or his talent, which is unconscionable.
Thanks for sharing this magic sound!
Much respect to Don. One of the finest songwriters in the genre.
I think Don had a great voice back in the day....but was he their main songwriter? All their classic songs/riffs/arrangements? Don't think so.
Jon is a GREAT GUITARIST! GREAT!
Mark Gannon he's not Lynch but he's good
He is great in his own way
This to me is the most consistent and possibly best Dokken album.
It sounds consistent on your first few listens but when you hear it enough you realize the entire style and sound of the album changes from lighter songs like give me a reason to heavier songs like it means about half way through.
great album one of their best !
One of Dokken's best albums, I can honestly say
To each their own, but I can't get into these non-Lynch albums at all. They're very average.
I listened to this for the first time recently, not expecting much. But DAMN! This is a surprisingly good album!!!
Awesome dokken, simply awesome.
Give Me A Reason + This Fire are the best songs of this album IMO, kick ass sound!
1. Standing On the Outside: 0:00 - 3:56
2. Give Me a Reason: 3:56 - 7:48
3. Heart to Stone: 7:48 - 11:47
4. Disease: 11:47 - 15:22
5. How I Miss Your Smile: 15:22 - 19:26
6. Oasis: 19:26 - 23:10
7. Point of No Return: 23:10 - 27:38
8. I Remember: 27:38 - 32:30
9. Judgment Day: 32:30 - 36:36
10. It Means: 36:36 - 41:21
11. Release Me: 41:21 - 47:09
12. This Fire: 47:09 - 51:42
Killer album!
How funny that "Standing on the outside" starts with such a similar riff to "Standing in the shadows".
"Standing on the outside" v.s "I'm on the inside looking out"
This is amazing it's almost like the original Dokken sound was cloned
That's because Lynch was never the Dokken sound, it wasn't cloned, they just brought it back.
this is the last dokken album where don dokken still had his voice... today don dokkens voice is totally shot... this album miss lynch, but its the best we get of a dokken album that was released in 2008. my favorite dokken albums will forever be 'tooth and nail' and 'back for attack'....

Maybe, just maybe, Don Dokken and Record Label pressure to play in a certain way and only in that way was what made George have to move on.
Paul Steinbrueck pretty easy to explain.
Don Dokken became popular with Lynch's sound so he hired guitar players who sounded like Lynch.
Damn man, I think you hit the nail on the head. Lynch Mob sucked compared to Dokken...
Buen disco! sonido biennn 80's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lml
The Point of No Return fkn great song

Hard to believe that it has already been 10 years since this one was released. To me LSA is still one of Dokken's top-5 albums, up there with Back for the Attack, Under Lock and Key, Tooth & Nail and Dysfunctional. Great, modern sounding hard rock album.
My favorite Dokken albums listed favorite to least favorite. (including Don's solo album)
1. Under Lock and Key
2. Up from the Ashes
3. Back for the attack
4. Tooth and nail
5. Dysfunctional
6. Erase the slate
7.Breaking the chains
8. Broken bones
9. Lightning strikes again
10. Hell to pay
11. Long way home
12. Shadow life
Keep in mind the only one I don't really "like" is Shadow life, the other albums from 1-11 barely have any gap between how much I like them.
this is. for my sweet tooth. love it. just jams. from first track .....,,
wow
This band knows how to write fucking songs, and how to release a proper album (minus the one that wasn't even worthy of the trademark logo). This album is start to finish, superior. "Give Me A Reason" is as good as any song they have ever written.
Jon Levin is a monster
Unreal, I did not even know about this album. But Cajsa Johansson is right. The last time I listened to an album from beginning to end, was in the 1980s, Van Halen 1 until now. Cant wait to hear Empire, hope its as good.
George Lynch is incredible, but Don Dokken is the Dokken sound...George is lucky he ever met Don and had his vision to showcase his talent
It's true. In the early days Don even played guitar with George on stage, so I would bet that Don wrote most of the memorable riffs to his songs.
Lynch isn't on this record..this is Jon Levin.
I think you misunderstood the point of this comment thread. We're saying that this album sounds like Dokken in spite of George Lynch's absence from the record.
EXACTLY !
SUCH underrated..
haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Dokken, the sound of my youth! George is awesome! and the voice of don , !!! so fuckin' great !
oui mais ce n'est pas Lynch qui joue sur l'album ;-)
Sorry but I'm not seeing any George on this album or any album since Shadowlife.
Gives me the exact same feeling as classic 80s Dokken: total indifference. Probably all nice guys, obviously all talented, but there's no songs that do a thing for me. It's the musical equivalent of a wafer thin margarine sandwich with the crust cut off.
Tampa Bay Lightning in the house! Go Bolts! This is our theme song.
imagine how much better this would have been if Don never smoked
I was pleasantly surprised when this was released, but what the fuck do I know. I liked Shadowlife and Dysfunctional too.
I loved Dysfunctional, I enjoyed Shadowlife too. I like all of Dokken's work from the original 1981 Breaking the chains all the way to Broken bones and every song beyond and in-between.
Might be the best album ever from Dokken.
What year is this album? I never heard it before until now, but it has the great style of Dokken
Disease rocks hard
Lindo mui lindo amei
I hope they can move forward as friends, Don continues to get healthy and we live happier ever after
niiiiiice
Proof they don't need George Lynch to sound like classic Dokken.
Interestingly Don Dokkens voice sounds different to the Dokken with the guitarist change !
Nice
The album is great, but it needs a remix :)
I wonder why this album isnt in Spotify
"I remember" sounds like aScorpions song. Some vocal lines and even phrazing are so Klaus Meine. Nevertheless it's a great album.
And that's because Don wrote the song for Scorpions but then they didn't use it
Main.
Standing on the Outside has parts that sound like Standing in the Shadows LOL
What's your point? What band plays for 40+ years and doesn't make a song that sounds like another one of their songs.
wow can you say standing in the shadows rip off on track 1
Shut up, I'd like to see you release 11 albums and 2 solo albums without making a single song sound the same.
dood playz amazing,,respect ...best without lynch but lets not overate it.Under Lock n KEY is best.
sounds like Lynch
Don's Amazing! tone raven
Are these songs in standard tuning ? Anyone know ?
Thanks bro !!!
***** Good to know. Thanks Frank. Brilliant album.
+Dennis Wooten Sometimes it's more complicated. "Highway to hell" is an album where the producer slowed down and sped up a few songs. So neither is standard tuning nor half step down or up.
DOKKEN TRES BON GROUPE DE HARD ROCK TOUJOURS EN ACTIVITE EN 2017
Jon is a great guitarist. But he's had to listen to so many Lynch riffs. He's still not the guitarist that George is and no dokken is never going to be the same as it was during their first four albums with Don, George, Jeff pilson, and Mick
You mean first three right? Breaking the chains was written before Pilson, Mick, and Lynch joined.
Problem for Lynch is Levin plays Lynch better than Lynch!
no?
@@BPoweredLove He has his own sound, what are you talking about have you heard his other work.
this is true
No….. not true. Levin is playing great on here. He is emulating George who is a guitar god. We don’t disrespect guitar gods, there is only a handful and George is one.
not the same but still good. dokken needs lynch
haha lol
The same way you need hearing aids.
Never realized how much Lynch meant to this band, it just doesn't sound right without him!
reminds me more of Don Dokken's solo album. Really can tell the difference without Pilson and Lynch. still really good, but George is the guitar god.
arndtdj Affirmed.
