thank you for sharing. What is the difference with the bellhousing beside the slave bolts and maybe the holes for the lines for the concentric slave? Can I get away with using a stock bellhousing ? Is there any difference with the width?
Two questions: 1)Do you have a video for converting LS1 to LT1 T56? You mentioned in your video that you would do that. I want to convert a LS1 to a modified LT1 because I want to use the clutch fork instead of the center clutch hydraulic. 2) Why is the LS1 input shaft much longer than the input shaft of a LT1? Thanks
I don't have a video of that, cause it's the exact same process with the parts reversed. LS input shaft is longer because the bell housing is longer and the pilot bushing is deeper inside the crankshaft
BTW, I think the center hydraulic slave is better than the fork setup. You can also run a mechanical fork with an early BBC bell housing and an adapter
Hmm. You could probably put an LS1 front plate and bellhousing and keep LT1 input shaft to work. The LT bell is too small for the LS flywheel. I have another video where I tried that out
Unfortunately I don't have the old one the previous owner swapped to a built th350 from the original 4spd and my t56 has no bellhousing so I'll have to get a stock one. Do you know where I can find a full kit that's not 1million bucks
@@aaronthemartialmechanic893 GM 621 is the part number you want if I remember right. For BBC and SBC with 12" clutch. You can also get a Quicktime with the same spec
1) is the LT1 tran body more skinny than the LS1 tran body?; 2) is the LT1 front plate more skinny than the LS1 tran body? I need a narrow T-56 to fit inside a narrow tran tunnel of a Jaguar sedan with a V8? Thanks
No, same size. The LS/LT style is a little bit smaller than the new aftermarket T56 Magnum. But you'll still need to open up the tunnel probably. I did with my 2nd gen Camaro
I lost 3rd gear in my 99' camaro's t-56 so i wanna swap in a t-56 outta 05' gto I got off c/l. Is it a direct swap? They do look the same other than they are diff gearing, and do you recommend any way of looking over if its good without ripping it apart?
The LT bell housing isn't big enough for the LS clutch. But the LS bell housing is too deep for the LT input shaft. That's why you need to do the LS conversion with the bell, input and front plate
Hey I know I'm late to this but my 4l60e in my 05 silverado is taking a shit no surprise there. So I'm wanting to do a 01 or 02 t56 swap. Will it work with the 5.3 lm7 if so Which polite bearing will I need or will I need to swap input shafts like you did?
This helps out a lot. Thanks for sharing. Seems very easy to do!
Great video
Wow, you have a Beretta with an LS1.
Close! Not LS1 but truck LS yeah

I think the slaves are the only difference. There's a place on eBay that converts lt1 front plates to ls1 style.
I pondered converting it myself, but ran into a deal on ls1 style so I took the easy route🤣

Great vid. 70 nova with a t56, swapping to a ls 6spd. Will the location of the shifter be in the same location.
As a 4spd, no I doubt it. I have a video with a ton of transmission measurements. Check it out
anyone have a link to the correct input shaft bearing ?
Let’s go bro !
Doing this soon. What do you use? The LS1 clutch and slave,
Yeah ls1 clutch slave and flywheel. And pilot bearing
Is this what I would need to do to fit a t56 on an early lq4 with the long crank?
Hmm. You could probably put an LS1 front plate and bellhousing and keep LT1 input shaft to work. The LT bell is too small for the LS flywheel. I have another video where I tried that out
Im trying to put a ls t56 behind my 406 i gues. Ill have to dp this
406 SBC? If so, you can use a regular BBC bell housing and clutch, with an adapter plate on the LS to the 4 bolt old bell housing pattern
*adapter on the LS T56 face plate to the 4 bolt pattern of them old 4spd stuff the BBC bell is set up for
Unfortunately I don't have the old one the previous owner swapped to a built th350 from the original 4spd and my t56 has no bellhousing so I'll have to get a stock one. Do you know where I can find a full kit that's not 1million bucks

Yes, direct swap other than the shifter. But that's just a cup change or something, you can Google it
I'd run it and see how it is before tearing it apart
Where did the blue housing come from. Thought you just swapped shaft and bells?
That's just the LS1 front plate painted to match the car
Do they not have the complete kit anymore?
I'm not sure, I haven't seen one
Someone told me an LS trans will bolt up directly to a small block Chevy just with one less hole is that true
In most cases that is true, however the LS1 T56 has a longer input shaft that won't work with a SBC crank without changing the bell
@GEARHEADdezign what if you're trying to put a LT T56 onto a LS1
The LT bell housing isn't big enough for the LS clutch. But the LS bell housing is too deep for the LT input shaft. That's why you need to do the LS conversion with the bell, input and front plate

98-02 T56 will fit your 5.3 perfect with a Camaro flywheel, clutch and pilot bearing😎
That's the exact setup I'm running in my 4.8 Beretta
