I agree with rocky 2. It's always forgotten. It's the underrated entry in the franchise.

Guys...thank you so much for once again sharing your passion for good cinema! I can't wait for your next project!!!
This exciting cinematic decade could not have ended in a better way! Great, favorite moments! Jack Lemmon's heartbreaking performance in "Chyna Syndrome" a completely hopeless insignificant man doomed to crash! An amazing Peter Sellers in the best film of his career! Al Pacino's final scene in "...And Justice for All" (a film that constantly flirts with parody and grotesque) is at a stellar performance level!!!
And some more great and lesser known movies:
"Winter Kills" (William Richert). Another great conspiracy movie, a mysterious maze that starts at the White House and ends... at the same place...
"Woyzeck". Werner Herzog methodically records the slow sinking of an oppressed man. Exemplary performance by Klaus Kinski!!!
And my 1979 Guilty Pleasure: "1941". Spielberg's mess! Anyone who says he doesn't have fun with this silly movie is lying!!!

You picked out two great performances in Peter Sellers' and Al Pacino's. I have been meaning to watch Winter Kills because I do love a good conspiracy movie. 1941 does have some humorous scenes.

Another episode where I'm mostly oblivious, yet, as always, very much enjoyed. Alien is on my list one of these days. Rocky 2, one of the best sequels ever. Apocalypse Now is unbelievable. I'll never complain about Woody Allen making an appearance. Great work fellas.

It's good to see another Woody fan. It has been a while since I saw Rocky 2.

I maintain that Apollo lost to his own hubris more than he ever lost to Rocky. Rocky never really showed he had an intrinsic motivation to be champion. Always it was someone or some event in his life that pushed him forward.

Good Evening Gents. Lots of movies around this year for me across a wide range of genres. My No 1 is Ridley Scott's 'Alien'. The start of my favourite Quadrilogy. For me, the supplementary documentaries that came with the DVD Quadrilogy Boxset are now an essential companion to this film and its sequels. My No 2 is' Apocalypse Now'. Not a film I watch a lot but I have got more out of the Redux Version in recent years. No 3: '... And Justice For All', legal drama with Al Pacino, Jack Warden & John Forsythe. A great movie for me with great screenplay and music. No 4: Walter Hill's 'The Warriors', which has now become a cult classic since its initial release. No 5: 'The China Syndrome' - great acting from Jack Lemon. Engrossing movie. Other films I have watched repeatedly include: Don Siegel's 'Escape From Alcatraz'. 'Rocky II' - particularly like the character development throught this series especially from both Stallone and Burgess Meredith. Still remember him well as 'The Penguin', from my childhood. From the horror genre I have Don Coscarelli's 'Phantasm' - very original horror movie with Angus Scrimm perfectly cast as The Tall Man. Also up with this bunch is 'Mad Max', with Mel Gibson. I have room to mention 'Moonraker' here, my third favourite Roger Moore Bond film, with 'Live & Let Die' & 'The Spy Who Loved Me' higher. Thought this was a very enjoyable entry in the series. I did watch 'Time After Time' last night and liked it and also the Sherlock Holmes adventure 'Murder By Decree', with Christopher Plummer. Sad this series had come to an end but looking forward to other year-by- year series in the future. Have a great night.

It is Charlie's Point though. Too many good movies this year. Can you imagine if that many good movies could be produced in a year nowadays?
My absolute favourite Sherlock Holmes movie, Christopher Plummer and James Mason. Plummer plays the most human Holmes I've ever seen , so less canonical, but better than a lot of other actor's portrayals.
Mad Max, All quiet on the Western Front, The Warriors, The China Syndrome, Escape from Alcatraz, Being There, The Jerk, Manhattan, Alien, Life of Brian, The Great Santini, The Poseidon Adventure, And Justice for all and Moon Raker, Breaking away, North Dallas Forty
Kramer vs Kramer - I have very seldom hated a character more than Streep as Mrs Kramer.
Time After Time was great. Love Breaking away.
Geez I saw a lot of movies in the the theater this year : Apocalypse Now, Rocky II, Being There, Breaking Away, Alien, Life Of Brian, Murder by Decree, And Justice for All, Kramer vs Kramer, The Jerk, Moon Raker, Manhattan, The China Syndrome, the Warriors,
Jack the Ripper is in Time after Time and Murder by Decree.
One of the worst Harrison Ford movies of all time Hanover Street.

I should revisit Mad Max as I haven't seen it since I saw it at the theater. I do enjoy Quadrophenia as I am a big Who fan and it is cool to see Sting in the movie. Some cool suggestions.

If someone would have asked me to guess what year Apocalypse Now and Alien came out I would have for sure guessed an early to mid 80s year. Kind of surprised to learn they were 79.

Funny for me I thought it was one of the weakest years. But I’m not a fan of some of the big movies like Apocalypse Now and Alien. It was actually a good year for comedies and Kung Fu movies.
    1. Rocky 2
    2. Moonraker
