There is NO WAY - let me repeat - NO F'NG WAY Who's Next is a better produced, written, engineered, cohesive or more groundbreaking album than The Dark Side Of The Moon! The only factor is Who's Next has better singles? Is this a millennium group with short attention spans? You guys are just like the Grammy awards! My reference is, in 1980 the Grammy for best album went to Christopher Cross over The Wall because the winner had 'more hit singles'! What a stupid way to gauge album against album. And to think, I stuck with this for weeks...such a disappointing end. Too much 'in my opinion's' here, and not enough facts...

I am actually a Gen X and so is Doc, but I think your opinion is every bit as valid as anyone else's. It was a close vote but with a small committee - if the committee was 9 people instead of 5 - perhaps it goes different. That being said - you are mixing your metaphors and drawing a uneven parallel between The Who and Christopher Cross - which doesn't help your argument. The point of the series was in fact to take a small group of knowledgeable music fans - familiar with the 70's at various levels - and pick a winner. Mission accomplished. We didn't pick Chicago IV over Dark Side - we picked Who's Next. And it was a 3-2 vote. If we voted a year from now - might go the other way. In any case - thank you for supporting us thru this. I value the voice of dissent as much as much any other.

@@masseysmaineentertainment Thank you for your thoughtful reply, I respect a well thought our reply more than someone simply saying 'you're wrong, you suck!'. Agreed, if the panel were larger it may have gone differently, but.... In the spirit of a respectful debate: First, as a side-bar, I must disagree with you on you taking exception to my 'Grammy's' metaphor (wasn't Christopher Cross against The Who), it was specifically targeted at the Grammy awards, that valued hit songs over entire albums. And, it really wasn't a metaphor, since the three of you that voted for Who's Next supported my case by specifically stating it was because the individual songs were better. That is almost exactly what was stated at the 1980 Grammy's. So I don't see how my 'metaphor' doesn't apply? Anyway, I can appreciate anyone 'liking', or 'preferring' one album over another because of the songs, I really can. But come on! Your video title states Best ALBUMS of the 1970's. And Sam even says "Dark Side is an album, it's one piece"! So, is it Best Albums? Or, albums you most like because of the songs that are contained in an album? This is Dark Side of the Moon, for crying out loud! This album made history, and was light-years ahead of its time. And it continues to make history. It reached out and crossed so many barriers sonically, spoke to young and old, rich and poor, black or white, etc. Hell, it still speaks to everyone (no pun intended to the first track...haha), where you can't say the same about the impact Who's Next made on the world, as a whole album. Certainly certain songs still resonate, and are still played, but as singles - not as an entire album, as a whole. Don't get me wrong, I agree that Who's Next is their best album, and I do love the majority of the songs, I just don't put on Who's Next and am suddenly compelled to keep listening until the end. I simply don't believe the album as a whole holds a candle - historically speaking - to arguably the most influential album of all time. So the question remains: between the two, which would you end up listening to the most as a whole album? Do you listen to Who's Next from front to back as a whole more than Dark Side? So, please don't get me wrong, I agree that Who's Next is their best album, and I do love the majority of the songs, I just don't put on Who's Next and am suddenly compelled to keep listening until the end. I simply don't believe the album as a whole holds a candle - historically speaking - to arguably the most influential album of all time. I simply had to speak out in defense of one of the most monumental points in musical history, that affected the whole world - and continues to do so. Look, I know my opinion does not matter here, and I am not trying to escalate anyone's blood pressure, just trying to make a point, here. So I apologize, I tend to go overboard with a near rant when I am passionate about something. Still, I respect all your opinions (and all those in the comments, who stated their favorites, we will just have to agree to disagree, is all. Thanks for letting me rant...🤪

Great discussion guys, really sums up how musical tastes vary. I've just commented on another of your videos how Ziggy Stardust took me on a magical journey in my teens and OK Computer had a similar impact on me in my late 30's. I don't seek out 'wierd' music but occassionally it finds me! I really liked 'Pablo Honey' and 'the Bends' but 'OK Computer' definitely took more work. There were enough 'accessible' tracks - 'No surprises', 'Exit music' and 'Let down' to keep me listening and now it is up there as one of my all time favourites. Cheers.

Hey man - I appreciate the comment. We all had an open mind going in - me - I am in your camp - I think OK Computer is the most important album in the last 30 years in so much as it moved rock music forward.

Great discussion guys! As a teenager in the 70's, this album made a huge impact on me, I'd never heard anything like it and it transported me to a different world. At the time I wasn't really aware of the 'concept' I just loved the wierdness, the strange new words and Mick Ronsons guitar! Sean summed it up perfectly. For me this is the one of the all time great albums. Cheers.

GUTTEEEEEED Who’s Next is the least good of those four for me, it’s not even the Who’s best album and it certainly didn’t deserve to beat LZ4 in the quarter finals. But I do think Behind Blue Eyes is by far Townshend’s best song. Wish I’d known it in my angst-ridden early twenties.

As always...excellent job, gentlemen! I personally enjoyed the discussion and overall the series as much as you did! "Who's Next" was up against a phenomenal album, I call it "pop-rock perfection". But if a novice listener asked me to recommend an album representative of the '70s, I would consider the best studio album of The Who to be an excellent choice! (for me the best Who album, in general, is "Live at Leeds")
