2:36 Narcisse asks "Why would he do that?" not "Why would *I* do that?" He understands - and subtly indicates - that he's been turned into a fictional character. Hoover could say anything he wishes, and people will believe it, and it doesn't have to have anything to do with the real Narcisse at all.
Compare Nucky to Hoover, both men gifted at saying the right thing at the right time. Nucky witty and charming, Hoover direct, calculated and cutting. Here, when Hoover forces Narcisse to call him Sir, it is all about establishing his dominance than perhaps his personal feelings towards race. We saw Nucky on so many occasions say what he needed to say. For example after the shooting at Chalky's warehouse, he gives 2 identical speeches to both groups advocating race and it is obviously no reflection on his personal feelings. A series of Nucky and Hoover clashing, playing a strategic match of chess if you will, would have been pretty epic.
You can see the difference between him and nucky right here. Whatever fate has in store for him he won't try and worm his way out, he'll take it like a man. Narcisse always seemed to be a hypocrite to me. Claims to want to be guide to his people, but he is as much an exploiter as anyone else.

Ah the most dangerous man in America, the cross dressing Hoover himself.
Narcisse was Ice Cold...then you could see him Melting... That was some great acting.
This is The most satisfying scene involving Narcisse. He is completely humbled and humiliated here. It’s great.
"All a dream to begin with. Ain't nobody ever been free."
And there aren't black people ruling Libya. Everything this man says is a lie.
Hoover is basically Arnold Rothstein, but on the other side of the law
If we think of J. Edgar Hoover, J. Edgar Hoover will appear and destroy us.
One thing for sure Mr. White would have never flipped
For 1To put it bluntly.. he had ALOT to lose.. Chalky did not have all that outside Caribbean stuff that the " Dr " was coming from Had he been had been deported they would have been calling him a "worthless deportee" and the people in the whole of the Caribbean Islands would of never found favor to him EVER just like what happened to Marcus Garvey
( Also watch a Jamaican movie called Shottas this same type of theme comes up as well in the movie
The theme of being deported is raw and in your face as it squirrely place the viewer as a Jamaican overseas [ foreign ] )
No. 2 Chalky people have mainly come from being in prison or in jail Those was the people he was trying to help
Two different really important situations for two different really important people
Speaking in 3rd person was a great touch.
Hoover learned a thing or two from Remus.
This was the great battle of
The lisps
When you find out you can't call the homies to come get you.
Truth is what those in power wish it to be ...so true
I think we could argue with that. But again it'll be better if one does not :)
when you literally find yourself rooting for other villains over Naricisse you know he's a vile jerk.. Not saying Hoover was one.. I'm referring to all the other gangsters.. I wanted CHalky to win so bad..
2:36
Narcisse asks "Why would he do that?" not "Why would *I* do that?" He understands - and subtly indicates - that he's been turned into a fictional character. Hoover could say anything he wishes, and people will believe it, and it doesn't have to have anything to do with the real Narcisse at all.
He responded in 3rd person because Hoover was speaking in 3rd person.
A servant, pretends to be a king
The most powerful closeted gay in American history
Followed by Lindsey Graham.
Careful Narcisse, he will hit you with enough electricity to power Times Square if you screw with him.
The guy playing Hoover has some Half-life G-Man vibes... even the voice.
Principles vs Self Preservation. A whopping 5 seconds later, and the winner is... (drum roll)
You can see the difference between him and nucky right here. Whatever fate has in store for him he won't try and worm his way out, he'll take it like a man. Narcisse always seemed to be a hypocrite to me. Claims to want to be guide to his people, but he is as much an exploiter as anyone else.
It is the start of a CIA legacy with his grandson, Felix Leiter, who has helped bring down terrorist bankers and third-world despots in the present time.
@@Agent1W the CIA has created just as many terrorist bankers and third-world despots as they have brought down, so let’s quit with the neocolonial revisionism.
"yes, what ?"
"yes daddy !"
My God this scene is powerful. Wow
It isn't that neat. I can smell Hollywood brainwashing and narrative threading from the door. I wish people would be more skeptical of what is put on their plates before they lapped it up like dogs.
Saying "Yes sir" Hurt more than him getting shot at the end.
The exiled does not choose his Babylon
Yes lady, we already heard it.
best scene of the season. Awesome acting.
I didn't know Mark Zuckerburg was acting
Incredible acting from Jeffrey Wright the way Narcisse said " Yes sir " you felt like he would have rather been b!tch smack by Chalky White then bow down to Hoover.
1:40 = 100% Genius w/ a side of blissful eloquence.
What an interesting turn of character that will certainly make for an interesting and developed plotline!
Narcisse should have agreed to Hoovers terms..got out of jail..grabbed every dollar he had & left the place he despised so much. Maybe quitting while you're ahead isn't the same as quitting 😉🙏
Probably the only time I ever cheered on J. Edgar Hoover in any form of media.
And probably the last😂
"Why would you go on living in a country you don't wish to belong to" Still very relevant to this day
That was crazy intense.
Jeffrey Wright is an brilliant actor.
He also indirectly killed thousands of his fellow Libyans getting them hooked on smack.
I would have said yes I’ll cooperate. Made more sense to me when he asked yes what
This was a bizarre thread that never resurfaced
hoover played the fuck out of his part I loved watching him obliterate Narcisse the narcissist
The title is suggestive as hell and I’m here for it lol
Jeffrey wright is a fantastic actor
It's unfortunate, but every now and then blackey must be reminded of where he sits in the pecking order.
Imagine being racist in 2020. Ernest hemingway yourself before you procreate and spread your vitriol please.
Honestly, I don't think Hoover cared if Narcisse was black or white. He would have treated him just the same.
