Yesterday evening I felt a bit down, for no special reason, and I just wanted to say that a dose of Kate and the Last Homely House cheered me up no end. Thank you Kate for all you do. X
I have managed to avoid quilting for all of my 59 years, and now this striping thing has me eager to give it a try. 😐😏 I watch people shop at the thrift store. I watch people exercise and cook... I watch them crochet, sew doll clothes and collect dolls...., I watch them shear sheep, and groom dogs. I watch men build stick huts in the woods and build gabion walls and fences.. I watch housewives turn crap from dollar store into designer knockoffs... Now I'm watch you sort fabric scraps... I should have made that rhyme, but it might have taken time. I'll just sip my brandy and tell you that you're dandy. I will subscribe because I dig your vibe and the squares you put together look better than the weather.. happy New Year from snowy northern Nevada. 🤗💞💖😘
I am watching this in September 2024. I am having the best time learning about sewing. I also have been battling a cold so this is a good way for me to relax
As I write, it’s June 2024. I have watched this video multiple times since it was first posted. Of course, Agnes’ quilt is now long finished so it was very fun to see it as a WIP again. And Norma! So beautiful seeing you with her again Kate. This may well be one of my favourite videos of yours.
Hi Kate, I am watching this video AGAIN on August 23rd 2024. I never get tired or bored by watching craft videos and I have learnt and like EPP by watching your calm way of working with your hands. So thank you Kate, may The Lord continue to bless you with good health.
Oh my goodness! I've been sewing ALL my life - worked as a seamstress and tailor MANY years ago so learned lots of little tips, but I never ever thought to always sew two pieces so you don't have all those insane ends! Kate - you are brilliant and I would LOVE to spend a day with you, playing with your scraps, your beautiful Juki and just learning from you. Thank you for bringing us into your home and I do love the moggies! xx
"it's not a prize winner, it never will win prizes"...the bald unapologetic honesty of that statement was such a relief and comfort to hear. You gladdened my heart!!!
I’m so happy, I found a younger creative businesswoman, just starting out with her business here in the USA. I am passing along all the fabrics that I was going to use by the pick-up load! What a joy, at 71; to give my burden to someone who thinks it a blessing!
Thank you for a lovely video. I wish my grown children could understand the joy we get out of playing with our bits and bobs. The end result pleases us, it engages our brain and stimulates our senses. Of course we can't forget a cat to stroke and talk with. Utter joy. It keeps us young.
I really love watching The Last Lonely House. I feel like possibly learning a new something that I’m also visiting and talking with a good friend. I loved today’s visit because this is my favorite type of quilt to make. This is how my Grandma Julia use to quilt with scraps of old clothes and scraps used from making and altering clothes. She never threw away a scrap! I love looking at a quilt I make and remember a piece of clothing I made for one of my children or grandchildren or even myself. I also use muslin squares to sew my strips or crumbs onto the way she did just like you did. Thank you for sharing your life with all of us quilting friends. 🥰
Excuse me, but I always feel like a “we” when watching your video’s , because I just know you must hear all my comments and ideas, I say out loud during your videos ( along with everyone else watching)..and that makes me and everyone else a part of your Creative project, certainly!☺️ ....So yes l, I believe the use of “ we “ is correct!
I just love to see all your projects, and it makes me feel so good to know I'm not the only one who has piles of scraps and unfinished projects stashed around the house!
@@thelasthomelyhousehello kate , ! like you , im I'm Learning all sorts of new things from making sour dough starter to milk kefer grains to kumbucha scobys , sewing w/ a machine , drawing and now teaching myself to paint ! Not too shabby for 61 yrs. Old ! I would really like to have an address where i can send you a little gift ( i am in central new york ) . Could you Please , rsvp , asap ! ;)
I like that you use fabric as a base rather than paper. Before I know that people used paper, I went to yard sales and bought sheets. I cut them in squares and used them for string piecing.
Love all that fabric. When I moved 7 years ago, to my little townhouse, I gifted most of my fabric to others. Did the same with my yarn. It just didn't fit in my house together with my kids. Seeing you sorting to all made my sewing spark light up! It's time I a going to make my own clothing again. As I did when the kids were little, I sewed, crochet, and knitted all our clothes. Work came in the way. I get more time in the near future. So many ideas you spark, my sweet kate. Love to watch you ;>*
Oh wow! The scrappy squares are superb. “7pm Kate” is the best time on a Sunday...I so look forward to watching. Thank you Kate. Love n hugs Dottie in North Wales xx
I hope it pleases you to know that you’ve added a member to the choir: I have never seen string pieced strips. I’m quite excited now thinking of using up scraps in such a quick, easy, and very attractive way!
Thank you so much for this tutorial, was wondering about how to make a quilt for my son in red an black, this is perfect. Your always an inspiration thank you for taking the time to film for us on the big green sofa. Much love
🥰💕I love the new strip technique you just made can’t wait to see the final quilt. Now I can’t wait to try it with my scraps. Everyone on the LGS is really enjoying the fun chat & all the snacks. What a great day together! Thanks Kate 🥰💕🧵🧶🏠👍👍
I love watching your videos. The interaction between you and your fur gals is beautiful. They must have been seamstresses in a previous life. 😀. Thank you for your videos. You’ve given me some great ideas. Xxx
Norma is such an absolute love bug 😻 That quilt is going to be gorgeous!! I enjoy watching all your different videos because I can live vicariously though your various projects that I would like to do myself, but because of limited time, space, materials and/or funds, can't manage right now. Thank you so much for sharing 😊
So I know I’m watching this in May 2024 and you may not see it….but Norma sitting in your project bins is exactly what my Lily loves to do. Right now she loves the tray with my sets of “Terry quilt” pieces ready to sew together (I assemble a bunch in layers separated by sheets of paper). It’s not a very big tray but quite cushy right now and she just sits there and looks out into the yard.🦋
I just finished sorting my cotton and flannel scraps by color and wondered what now. Thank you for the great idea. I really appreciate all you do and your videos are informative, entertaining and relaxing.
What a lovely project. I watch your channel from Cape Town South Africa all the time - never comment but do leave likes :0( but love your soft voice and stories as I work and sew. I am so sad to hear you are feeling poorly by your lovely children. Rest Well dearest Kate :xxx Penny Williams
I started a string quilt but got far too organised measuring and colour coordinating, this version is far more fun and the finished product will be gorgeous. You’ve taught me so much about relaxing and enjoying my crafting, thankyou so much Kate. 🤗
Wow! Wow! Wow! I just love your sewing machine so much!!! So happy to see you sew on it!!! Just a lovely video!! I like the way you have your scraps are right beside the sewing machine super cool idea!!! The block is super easy and just gorgeous!!! I love that block!!!
Absolutely love your "stained glass" strip curtains! Unlined? How, pray tell, did you finish edges, double hem? Will check to see if you made a video on those. Perfect for a window that receives sun!
I’ve been sewing my entire life but have only been quilting for a few years & id never heard of a string quilt. I love it! So clever & pretty! ~ Melissa
Oh I love this so much. I'm starting one this afternoon. Your tv knitting project will be just the right thing to grab when you are a tad chilly around the edges.
Hi... you're the best...so so homely. I like not only to watch you piecing bits of fabric together, but also to listen to your interesting narration. I too have two cats, and I can relate to you petting your pet whilst talking to us 😊. I too need to get back to patchwork and quilting, as I'm recently retired and need to keep myself occupied doing what I like. Wish you good luck with your future projects and lots of good wishes all the way from Sri Lanka!

Absolutely! I agree completely.
Love the blue and yellow blocks! Thank you for all the fun!
I was shocked how beautiful and colorful the squares turned out.
Love this idea. 🌞
What a lovely comforting video.

It’s lots of fun to watch you sort through
Your fabrics, it’s therapeutic, ha!
Thanks Kate!❤️
For sure!!!🥰🥰
I just watched fusion quilting, it is amazing. She made quilted squares and using a blanket stitch she crocheted them together.
Kate, I would love to listen to you tell stories about every scrap of fabric you sorted- I would not mind a bit- really!
I love that blue and yellow with that bit of orange added! Just love it!
Hello Kate and everyone on the lgs. Have a magical day💐 😊
Thank you Kate! Love your gentle Spirit of light & love 😊
Kate, you never cease to amaze me with with your ability to combine colours. These squares are beautiful!
I could listen to you all day! I really enjoyed your tutorial ..

Oh Kate! That is so pretty!!! And it looks quite complicated 😃😄👍👍❤️
You could start with making a small one for a new baby, and then keep adding to it as the child grows. So fun!

I love Norma she is absolutely adorable and very good company

Thank you i love the quilt you just started. Love, love the colors.😊
I made a string piecing machine cover yesterday as my scrap container wouldn’t close! 🇨🇦
Oh! This is a better idea than the pillow I was going to make
What a great idea 💡 😊👍
I love the scrappiness of the blanket too, Kate.
The minute you picked up those tiger and cow fabrics, I said, "That's a mod outfit for Agnes!"
