I just had to google how to do a chain ply ball. You're a better person than I am, I don't think I could make myself do that, lol. I love your videos, I always learn so much.
Thank you! I actually find it a lot easier to make a chain plied ball than to chain ply at the wheel. The only time I will do the former is if I want hardly any barber poling, like in this yarn.
Yes, the first part of the process was so reminiscent of the troll dolls we used to have long long ago 😊! The colors are so very luscious and mouth watering! I've been rabidly watching your various videos and trying to imagine how you are oriented toward your Nano. You have so much control and have given me permission to slow things down a lot. It is really helping. I'm going to try chain plying again. My first and only experiment was way over spun and I realize that I was trying to do it too fast. I just started spinning around the first of this year and have an EEW 6. Also, as to which yarn I like, I like them both. I go back and forth between them but the chain plied ball may be the winner. That said, I've learned that the beauty of the yarn does not mean it will knit up into a fabric that I like. I think the rainbow gradient clearly would be beautiful for some shawls. I've always preferred a gentle gradient change in colors over stripes or harsh lines in any garment. I'm less sure of how the yarn that is closer to a fractal would knit up. I have no experience there. But this new world of spinning and fiber prep gives me joy just thinking about learning! Thank you SOOOOOOO much for these videos!
Oh thank you so much for your lovely kind words! I’m a sideways drafter so quite often I sit with my Nano on the windowsill next to me and draft by moving my hands apart to the side. I’m not the fastest of spinners but I spin for relaxation. My body won’t let me spin faster so spinning is a meditative activity for me. You’re right about the two rainbow yarns. Aesthetically I think I preferred the more marled yarn but I found it much easier to find a project for the one with bolder colour changes. Happy spinning!
Thank you for replying. I had deduced that you were going from the side and tried that this morning. Everyone I see does it straight on but this definitely works better for me. My posture and my arms are both more relaxed. I like spinning as a kind of meditation as well. Making something I love is a bonus in both my knitting and spinning. I learned a lot from you 'muddy' videos too. I have several braids I bought early on, of a lovely soft merino blend. The said part is taht it contains muted purples, pinks and it turns out, a very ugly sickly yellow. I tried a bit of it spinning across the top as well as from the fold. The one looked gray and the other gray with pops of ugly yellow. I'm not an artist and don't know color charts but now I do know to be on the look out for these color wheel opposites Sigh. But after watching your video, I decided to pull out as much of the yellow as I could despite it being more finely blended. It was either that or just never spin it. I am happy to say that I've been spinning what is left and it is looking a bit more lavender than gray now. Plying and knitting will tell. Life is an experiment. Sorry about the long message. I've just been so thrilled to find your videos.@@KathrynCraftmehappy
Thank you for takingnthentime to film and share this with us, Kathryn. It is rather hypnotic seeing the blending, and what beautiful colours you create! Gorgeous yarn! Very best wishes, Tracy
Both yarns are great. I agree with Tracy S. that it was mesmerizing to watch how you prepare it. I would go for socks with the first yarn, and the second one - mittens, and what are you planning to do with them?
Thank you so much! I think I'm going to use the more solid coloured one to make an element to go on a joyful wreath that I'm making. I think the marled one would look good in a Missoni-style zig-zag cowl.
That is how you got the amazing bobbin photo! 🎉 I love the chain-ply on the wheel
Thank you so much! Interesting, I think I prefer the one made with a chain-plied ball but there is definitely a place for both techniques.

Wonderful work! They do remind me of little trolls ;)
Ha! I get that a lot 😀
Pretty!
Thank you!

Очень познавательное видео! А общий вес свей шерсти какой?
Спасибо! Я пряла 45 г обеих пряж.
