Great videos, thank you for posting 😀 I am retired from Amtrak having worked on the Northeast Corridor in Maryland & when I was hired back in June 1979 we were still using the GG1's that I thought were just majestic motors to see running. Conrail at that time was running with a mix of E44 motors & diesel engines. I had also meant to say Conrail was also running with some GG1's painted in Conrail blue, my 1st & only sighting of the Conrail GG1's was at the interlocking in Bowie, Maryland.
Thank you for sharing your memories! It's always fascinating to hear from those who've worked in the industry. Your comment adds a whole new dimension to the video.
What a neat bit of colour film, so well preserved - allows one to see a likely accurate rendition of Tuscon Red and PRR loco black. As well as key PRR spots like Rockville Bridge, Enola Yard, Horseshoe Curve (on what looks like the inauguration day of the K4 memorial - in steam??) and many others (including Leaman Place and the Strasburg Rail Road). Thanks for sharing
11:25 is AR Tower at Gallitzin. Still standing today, in terrible shape, but it sure looked great back then! 12:32 is Federal Street station in Pittsburgh, as well as FEDERAL STREET Tower seen in the center of the tracks there. Thanks for sharing!
I'm glad YT recommended your channel. I have always been intrigued by Penny's passenger trains of that era with their large variety of both head end and passenger carrying cars. I wish I could have been around to see such in person. Thank you.
Back in the days of shiny GG1s, even the K4s didn't look ramshackle. And "Old Rivets" #4800 to start the show! Thank you for not using 3rd-rate swing band music. The ethereal stuff really was nice!
It is so wonderful to see trains without graffiti scrawled all over them. It was such a nice old America that we used to have I wish we had it now. They did not realize how good things were.
Great films and memories. I was born in 1953, so the 60s were my memories ( on the Phila main line: Ardmore to Coatesville mainly) I didn't see much steam, but I saw "Paoli locals" commuter cars ( no Air Conditioning), before Budd cars, and lots of GG-1s.
Not 100% sure, but it looks like the 8:00 mark to about the 8:30 mark is a Strasburg Railroad excursion train traveling to the junction of the Strasburg and the Pennsy lines
Film was so expensive in the old days especially color movie film and now you don't need film at all but there is nothing to take pictures of that's decent. Today's trains like today's cars are nothing much to speak of in terms of beauty.
The big difference with the GG1 is that where the MP54 had two traction motors on one truck Per Vehicle, the GG1 had two (same rating) traction motors PER AXLE.
Your film transfers look excellent! *May I ask* where or how you had it done? I've had poor results from a few transfer services. Nice that you retained the full width of the film since there is still some photo detail in the perf area.
Thank you! This is the result of years of trial and error but I’m currently using a Wolverine scanner and adobe pro for editing and color correction. I like to use as much of the frame as possible, so it’s nice to able to access parts of the frame that a projector normally can’t.
@@the8mmrailyard-vd6jd Thank you for the quick reply. I have a Wolverine. I'll have to play around with Premiere Elements 2022 and see what I can do there. Two commercial places I used did an awful job. The Wolverine was much clearer and brighter picture. Appreciate the help!
I tend to get the best results with the exposure set at 0 and sharpness set to medium. I also zoom out on the frame quite a bit and correct it later in editing.
I can always turn off the projector sound, but those fake add-on sprocket holes on the left edge of the frames block the view of some important footage.
The sprocket holes are not fake, my scanner allows me to scan parts of the film that the projector would not have been able to access, you’re seeing footage on the side of the film that has never been seen by anyone else before.
Fun video to watch those old trains, but could you at least turn down the projector sound? It detracts from the content of what you are presenting. Thanks anyways.
Sorry about that, unfortunately UA-cam removed the ability to adjust audio levels for some reason. I did, however, remaster this film. m.ua-cam.com/video/R5NSj84i7PM/v-deo.html&pp=ygURdGhlIDhtbSByYWlseWFyZCA%3D
What an amazing time to see trains! Having Diesel, Steam, and electric all working at the same time.
That’s why I love these old films, they are literally a window into the past.
Superb video, thanks for sharing, from Germany
Thank you so much for viewing and commenting, I plan I continuing to post never before seen footage.
What a time to be alive.
Yes 100%Agreed so better etc

Fan trip on the Octoraro branch at 5:00 , first time I ever saw a train going over the Brandywine floodplain trestle near the Brandywine River museum.
This is one of the best videos of the iconic PRR. Thank you for sharing.
The shot at 1:23 with the two GG1s coming head on is fantastic. It really make me wish I could have been there to see it for myself.
Now those were REAL trains! What fantastic footage!

Nice seeing some footage of P5’s and P5a’s, one of my favorite boxcabs
10:46 If I’m not mistaken, *that’s muleshoe curve footage*
A terrific mix of PRR power and in all flavors and shades! Great video, and thanks for posting it!
I have a locomotive modeled after these locomotives, a total beauty from 1950.
Fantastic amounts of GG1 footage!
11:25 is AR Tower at Gallitzin. Still standing today, in terrible shape, but it sure looked great back then! 12:32 is Federal Street station in Pittsburgh, as well as FEDERAL STREET Tower seen in the center of the tracks there. Thanks for sharing!
4:07 to 4:23 @ Sharon Hill, PA with the Keystone equipment.
Thanks for the history lesion.

Just showed up again in my feed. is 11:52 the dedication of 1361 at Horseshoe Curve in '57? June 8 per Al Staufer.
Back in the days of shiny GG1s, even the K4s didn't look ramshackle. And "Old Rivets" #4800 to start the show! Thank you for not using 3rd-rate swing band music. The ethereal stuff really was nice!
Superb!!! ThaNK YOU.
4:19--The "Keystone". The PRRs attempt at lightweight "low slung" coaches. I guess they never really worked.
WO! this is INCREDIBLE!
Fantastic footage!
Thanks!
That was pretty wonderful.
Look for the low slung tubular steel Keystone cars on the end of the train. Starts at 4:13.
GG1 pulling ore cars was pretty rare and interesting.
What a great film ! Thanks for posting it.
Amazing video!! I love the Philadelphia shot of the High Line
It is so wonderful to see trains without graffiti scrawled all over them. It was such a nice old America that we used to have I wish we had it now. They did not realize how good things were.
You don't know what you got till it's gone.
Well spray cans weren't much of a thing yet.
Ah yes, the nice old America, with plenty of racism and homophobia and no rights for woman, the good old days.
the shot at 9:04 is from Harrisburg station.
I love the fantrip on the grassy branch line at about five and a half minutes
5:33 is down town Kennett square, amazing only footage of Kennett I ever seen
4:19 im almost positive those are Keystone coaches.

GG1 definitely ruled the rails at that time, thanks for watching and commenting
Wish I was alive back then.
Do you really? You would not have a phone like your on now.
3:53 PRR P5A! What a catch!
There are several shots of P5a's in this film, either on their own, or double or triple heading.
Not 100% sure, but it looks like the 8:00 mark to about the 8:30 mark is a Strasburg Railroad excursion train traveling to the junction of the Strasburg and the Pennsy lines
Great 😊
It looks like the early part of the film has a lot of Army-Navy Game train footage.
Oh wow, cool Silver GG-1 and not on a Congo train... is this the Manhattan or Gotham Limited?
6:30 That livery was rare.It was either Tuscan or Brunswick
4:24 - Is this the Whitemarsh Branch (Present-day PA 309)?
Yes I believe so.
In those days the Pennsylvania railroad was known as the big red Subway
Film was so expensive in the old days especially color movie film and now you don't need film at all but there is nothing to take pictures of that's decent. Today's trains like today's cars are nothing much to speak of in terms of beauty.
Well spoken. Nobody could afford to film a big freight train. Now they shoot every car in 250 car plus train. Crawling along.
I believe 4:24 to be Elwyn and the scene after at Wawa
The big difference with the GG1 is that where the MP54 had two traction motors on one truck Per Vehicle, the GG1 had two (same rating) traction motors PER AXLE.
Wish you could dub some engine sounds. Also locations would help.
I Definitely have plans to do that in the future
Thank you for posting this interesting footage, please use less sound effects.
Thanks for the comment. I’m going to be remastering this one. It definitely has audio problems

Какое изобилие различных локомотивов тех лет.
Спасибо
Overbrook 6:13 | Ardmore 6:20 | Strafford 6:28
good times

Why the fake sound and sprocket holes on the left?
The Pennsy😂
I had to turn off the sound.
I will be making adjustments to the sound levels tonight, thanks for the feedback
We grew up with 8 mm projectors. That sound brings back memories.
The sound is great!
