I honestly enjoy the fact that The Astonishing Color of After is slow moving because I find that more authentic to the grieving process. Grief isn't an immediate change or an a-ha moment, which I feel is often how YA novels treat it. Grief is a long process of relearning how to live life without someone. I like that Emily X.R Pan took the time to examine that. I totally agree with you on how high up on your list it is.

Also my fave books I read this year are Love, Life and the List by Kasie West (loved seeing the artist grow and how it showed in her paintings. It was that in-depth.) And Miss Peregrine's Home of Peculiar Children. It was soooo addicting I took 3 days to read it out. Would have bern less if I was not studying in between. 😄

I loved To Kill A Kingdom. I listened to the audiobook first, then reread the physical book. It’s really well done.

I really liked To Kill a Kingdom and Children of Blood and Bone! The Astonishing Color of After is on my TBR. One of my favorite debut books of 2018 was The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. I loooved The Last Namsara, though technically that was 2017 (I read it on 2018, though). Also Girls of Paper and Fire was a fun read. ⛄ Looking forward to the next Bookmas video! ❤

Mine was probably Children of Blood and Bone. I didn't get around to read a lot of debut authors. It was mostly a catch up year for me lol.

Ink is a couple years old in the UK now so the sequel is out and third book is coming soon in like 5 months

I still need to read The Astonishing Colour Of After but I’ve read Children of Blood and Bone and To Kill A Kingdom. I preferred the former.
I tried to predict the books you'd talk about in this video and therefore I missed the 7(1/2) deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton. I did see children of blood and bone coming, I loved that one as well! Haven't read any of the others, but they're on my endless wish list.
this year I read To Kill a KIngdom, Sky in the Deep, Children of Blood and Bone as books from debut authors and they're all great. my personal favorite i\was Children of Blood and Bone.
I am always so late with new releases haha. 'Ink' came out in February 2017 tho, the sequel came out this year!!
The hardback came out this year, but the paperback was released in 2017. Same with the sequel, the hardback is 2019, the paperback came out in April. The other way around for a change!

In Canada (maybe North America in general) it came out this year and the sequel isn't out yet, so I guess it's a debut for me, haha!

I was kind of underwhelmed with To Kill A Kingdom sadly, I thought it was pretty tamed, I wanted more ruthlessness from it haha

The best 2018 debut I read was "The Dangerous Art of Blending In" by Angelo Surmelis. Harrowing, but captivating.
I want to know how on earth the astonishing color of after is a new book. I swear on my life ive seen this book talked about on booktube for at least 4 years now. Unless this cover and title is almost exactly the same as another book from years ago. Because I swear this book came out soon aftee I first joined booktube in 2012.
It reminds me a bit of The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton!
@@ringlófa YES!! along with that, where things come back by john Cory waly came out with a book with the exact same cover, just a blue background instead of pink/purple, in 2011. Soo... Also I feel like there was another popular book about a young girl who thought her mother turned into a bird written a few years back.
