    Ha,ha. That is what you get for not abandoning Sonos. So glad I found you,as you connected me to Diane Bisch. Before I met you on UA-cam, I had to settle for Moog Synth from ELP, and UA-cam videos of Anna Lapwood playing Interstellar at midnight in Royal Albert Hall. I hate interstellar as much as Sonos.

    You are so right about bricking their older products. My first speaker was a Play 5. I can no longer use my phone or Apple watch to play music using airplay. I called tech support 3 times, and it worked for a few hours before reverting back to a brick. Oh, but they will give me 15% off for a new one. Shady business practices.

    I knew going into it that there was no Sonos app wi-fi capability. I think they sound all right, but I agree with several others here that headphones are very subjective. We all have different things we're looking for. My Bluetooth connection has never dropped, and although the bass is not where I would like it to be, the highs and mids come through well and the soundstage is good. However, I agree the app still needs serious serious work and there's a lot they can do with firmware updates. I have faith they'll come back. I sure hope so. As a totally blind person I don't think any other company has an app that works well and as seemlessly as the Sonos app before they bricked it.

    I have two family members heavily invested in the Sonos whole home system KoolAid-aid - oops, I mean incredibly user friendly software app infrastructure- and have spent the last several years walking on eggs trying to be diplomatic in regards my impressions of the audio quality. (Does that hint at what those might be?). Since the system’s singular appeal I can see is the admittedly convenient control via the app, I can only hope for the sake of folks who’ve been awaiting a series of long rumoured product upgrades that this doesn’t foreshadow the company’s direction moving forward.

    If they extend the SWAP feature to actually work with more of the speakers (right now it is the TV, not the soundbar itself that drives the swap e.g. no SONOS radio), that would make me feel that this is a sonos product. But, these features can and should be firmware fixed, otherwise - IBM, and I am out!

    I appreciate your review but I feel like it was harder to trust your opinion when you were reading a script word for word. Try to be more natural with your audience. There’s no point of sitting in front of a camera reading a script off to the side of the camera. It’s about as disappointing as the Sonos ace headphones.

      @Janus1000 3 місяці тому +2

      The disaster that is people winging their content has sank many a channel. A script ensures all the points they want to make are made, concise, and timely. They have to write the script, after all.
      To this commenters point, looking off to the side is distracting to a light degree. A think a hardware investment like one of those reflective teleprompter boxes (the camera sits behind a one way reflective glass at a 45 degree angle reflecting a script to your eyes, meaning you look at the camera while also reading the script) would be a great purchase and useful for your content style.

    I wish Sonos well. Comebacks ARE possible.Sonos sounds like it would be a good word for "goodbye." Even though it's the same amount of syllables as 'So long", Sonos seems shorter to say, somehow. Now "Somehow" seems longer to say than the words "So long" even though So long is actually two words. And every bit as many syllables. Has anyone ever come out with a stat as to how much longer in time your average cd is, compared to original lps from like the 1960's to 1990s? I notice that just about every cd I put on, there's like at least 16 tracks or more. Steppenwolf 16 greatest hits is about the only vintage lp I can think of that has that many tracks. Instead of the usual 4 or 5 tracks on each side back in the golden era of lps, it now seems almost mandatory that an artist's cd has lots of tracks. With cds, there's no more excuses like, "you can only fit on 4 or 5 tracks per side" without making the grooves so narrow as to degrade sound quality. Could this be a factor in why music creativity has taken a huge dip since the the early 1980s? Having to come up with so many more tracks might be draining. The $$ incentive isn't as much anymore either, with less royalties, and less music sales, where most well known music is available free. Can you imagine bands back in the 1960s and 1970s being told, "There will come a day in the future where all that music that artists work to create will be FREE. People won't even have to buy a thing!
    I am a little surprised that someone who apparently listens almost exclusively to the organ music of Diane Bish, would even think of headphones. That huge airy sonority of a pipe organ which can fill a huge cathedral, seems like the equivelent of the old movie Honey I Shrunk The Kids. Have you ever heard the Saint Saens Symphony 3, also called the Organ Symphony? Probably the most famous organ piece ever written. There's probably 100 different recordings of it. A really beautiful piece of music; one ot he best and a true classic. The best versions I know are the ones conducted by Paul Paray on Mercury and Charles Munch on RCA. Although I'm sure the Bish version would have been the best, had she recorded it. The Paray cd is coupled with the Paray Mass, which is nice, and a good one to play on Sundays, if you want your neighbors to think you are either Religious or Latin. What other artists besides Bish do you really like to listen to? Seriously?

    • @scientificaudiophile
      @scientificaudiophile  3 місяці тому

      Bish covers nearly all music from 350 CE to 1937 CE. I know of no other artist that has such a huge volume of music.

    • @sidesup8286
      @sidesup8286 3 місяці тому

      Interesting; I was not aware of that. Another interesting question would be what musical group has the largest discography? The jazz group The Crusaders springs to mind. If you include their early albums when they were called The Jazz Crusaders, I think they put out close to 40 albums. If you include later solo albums put out by their personnel like Joe Sample, Larry Carlton, and Wilton Felder, I'm think it's closer to 70 recordings between them. That's way more than The Rolling Stones and it's members; or The Beatles.
      Another group whose members have very long discographies is the 1970s Jazz supergroup Return To Forever. Chick Corea, Al Dimeola, Stanley Clark & Lenny White. Al Dimeola's Elegant Gypsy lp I think is still the best selling Jazz Fusion guitarist album of all time. The album School Days by Stanley Clarke is one of the best selling Jazz Fusion electric bass player albums of all time. The title track is a classic, and on track two he does a cover instrumental of all things, Midnight At The Oasis...Sing Your Camel To Bed.Remember that one? Camels really like that. And they'll like you enough not to spit at you. Anyone who has been spat on by a camel knows that it is absolutely one of the worst things that can ever happen to you. Even their drummer Lenny White put out some solo albums. Venusian Summer is a classic lp/cd. It keeps getting better and better the further into the album you go. And what can you say about Chick Corea. Such a great artist and one of the most melody inventive artists ever, from an era where the music actually had melody. I doubt if there ever was a group with musicians anywhere near Return To Forever.
      Imagine if they would have had Diane Bish also.

    I got the Arc with the Sub and 2 ikea rear speakers, 2 Sonos One SE and now these headphones. The point that the headphones are not part of the ecosystem is really a big issue and that I can not switch between my Ones and the Ace is something I really hope Sonos will fix in an update. Besides that fact I am happy with my Ace headphones for watching movies through the ace. The switch between the arc and the ace is really smooth and I enjoy it very much. Besides that they have to include more basic features. That’s typical for Sonos with new products. The arc was also a bummer in the beginning and got better with (nearly) any update. Otherwise I will be disappointed by Sonos.

    I think the issues with headphones is they are very subjective. And they need to be comfortable and keep your ears cool. That’s the main reason why both is so popular. Bose does not have the best sound, Bose has very good sound. We’re both really shines as its comfort and coolness your ears almost never get hot and sweaty. Where the Sony’s XM3/4, sound slightly better, but the cushion is squashed against your ear, so your ear can’t breathe and gets very hot. So it’s not worth the better sound as you won’t wanna wear them for more than an hour. Comfort is King when it comes to headphones.

      Sonos ACE are a really great set of Bluetooth headphones. They sound great, especially for movie content are well thought out with really good connection options. Icing on the cake would have been WiFi connectivity, but the current WiFi/qualcomm chips they can use suck up too much energy. That's the issue. They are made by Sonos but they are not part of the ecosystem they are famous for. The airpods for instance, are part of the ecosystem Apple created. The Sonos do not even offer a real EQ, so for the asking price, you could get a better pair of regular Bluetooth headphones with better ANC.
