    389s aint bad but you open the door they all look the same, I really miss and have the pleasure of still enjoying my 90s 379 Canadian Class interior in my flat top. The olden days interior had emotion and style to them and really made the truck feel almost as if they were someone besides a tool you drove everyday, customize em up with long chrome toggles and guage covers and hardwood floor or matching carpet. 😢

I would even want that side panel with 3 more gauges. I believe you can get 15 on the side panel, with 8 more in front of the steering wheel, including the tach and speed, for up to 23 gauges. She's a beaut Clark... It's gorgeous. We don't need a third drive axle to get the job done here in the U.S LOL...
    No we don't use them here in the States, but they do look cool, especially with the heavy duty steer axle and
    the big 445 tires and wheels...
    I'm like you, I can't drive sitting on the floor. I actually like to be able to see out of the truck
    I know some guys think they look cool when they let all of the air out of the seat, but they don't.
    There's nothing cool about it, and strangely enough, air seats don't work very good without air in them...
    I really like the look of the polished panels that they put on the black cab guard. Very nice, and it's different.
    That company has some incredible equipment. The two black trucks and the red truck look cool sitting together.

    This is the sexiest heavy-duty 389X truck I've ever seen! Like, the color is wicked! I also love the tri-drive! I've never driven a tri-drive, especially since we don't have trucks like that down here on the east coast, especially not here in Washington.D.C. and surrounding areas. We don't have a need for them, but I wish we did. I'm glad I've never driven one, though. Bcuz, according to this guy, I would have broken an axle. I wouldn't have known to drive with the diff locked. I'm used to tandem-drives, and ya don't drive with them locked bcuz the truck always wants to go straight, even in curves! BTW, I never understood why tandem-drive diffs were not meant to use at freeway speeds, especially on snow n ice. Like, why wouldn't that come in handy? It's already bad enough that tandem-drive trucks are 6×4s, instead of 6×6s, meaning having a powered steer axle like they do in Europe or even with the U.S. Military trucks, which are even 8×8s! Aside from fuel, I think it'd be nice to have all powered axles. I think it'd be cool to even be able to turn the steer axle and one of the drive axles off when not needed if we had 6×6 tandem drive trucks, or in his case up in Canada, 8×8 trucks! Nonetheless, my dream truck is a 379X extended-hood or a 389X, which only comes in the extended-hood unlike the 379X that also comes in a short-hood, but in the big-hood version, which is straight, not slanted like the regular 379 short-hood! It just sucks that Peterbilt discontinued the 389 for that shitty 589, which is complete failure!

    • @user-wm9pj2xj7z
      @user-wm9pj2xj7z 27 днів тому

      The diffs aren’t locked in just the interaxles, with diffs locked in on tri drives they really hate steering generally don’t lock all three up. Also they do make powered steering axles just they aren’t practical for on highway or city operations, worse turning angles less fuel economy you do see powered steering axles in off highway oil field bed trucks and even some buses are 4x4.

We run into all the northern reserves on the winter roads, chaining up is a last resort. Keep your tires warm and send it, use your spike to correct understeer. If you run chains on the winter roads you chop them up and destroy them. We had to give the Alberta guys an earful last year running with chains on like a bunch of noobs, tearing up the roads. It’s not bad looking truck. Imo the 379/389 and w900 are the best looking and sexy looking semi trucks. I don’t like look of 589’s. They kinda ugly, too futuristic.
    For this 389x, I would NOT want all the DEF/emissions and computer shit/sensors on this truck. At some point they will fail or you’ll get stranded somewhere not near a truck shop. Parts for these newer trucks isn’t going be cheep. I’m Glad to see this 389x is a manual 18 speed. Manual seems be going extinct, for favour of automatic transmissions. For city driving I can understand, if your in a lot of stop/go, make sense. But for long hauls or heavy duty. Id want manual. Even when weather turns bad, Specially in Alberta here, I’d still want a manual.
    Manual forces be better driver, more connected to road/the truck/the load and weather/road conditions. Too many young drivers get they CDL, get into automatic semi truck then wrap truck around some tree/pole or kill someone.
    Imo all New CDL driver should be tested in manual, (unless actually have medical condition where they can’t drive manual). Then only after they pass. Then can driver automatic.

    That's too long for logging you'd never turn around in the woods and you don't need all that just to run to the mill. 6x6 for highway is extra. I'm a Family Logger until Obama ruined the country. I mean this is a gem I'd be pissed if I was cutting wood for some guy for $20 a hour and seen this. We ran two Chevy Kodiaks 2wd with a air tag tandem and just 2wd with tag up would get through the mud and hills. We had HOOD loaders and custom built them from empty chassis's. Leave the 18 wheelers on the road to load up from the kodiaks running back n forth. It's much easier to push the 8 cord Kodiaks loaded up the icy muddy hills with the Cats and skidders. I don't know what this truck is best at besides a dream, but I love it too.

    Child's play. I painted a million dollar Tandom steer Kenworth bed truck with planetary drive axles & 2 drops that could legal 100k on its bed in the mid 2000's.

    Can you elaborate a little more on the new dpf trucks not having mufflers anymore? Are the engines louder now? I dont mind some loudness 😅

    • @mikethetrucknut
      @mikethetrucknut  6 днів тому

      Lol the DPF acts as a muffler so they are actually quieter

    Unfortunately it’s still 10/15 years behind the Swedish stuff
    A V8 Scania would outperform it, be more fuel efficient
    More comfortable
    More reliable, be warmer in the cold conditions and have more space and storage

    I'm not going to say much about the new trucks you have to hate and understand were the trucking industry is going I grew into trucks in the 1970 and 1980s those trucks had a style to them to me all the new ones are close to the same have always loved Peterbilt and Kenworth best of all keep up the good work brother looking forward to whatever is next

      Agreed. The old analogue gauges are way better. The only thing I’d want is small digital just for speed. Don’t like digital dash. Ugly imo.

    So that’s a logging truck, no mud, dirt roads, tree stumps, just interstate driving, where are these clean woods for a new sexy truck? That truck makes no sense to me at all, I’ve worked in the logging industry and I’ve never seen a rig like that in the woods, please explain how the company can buy a truck for the woods with a sleeper. Hauling lumber is probably what she’s for but the tires in front say woods? Questions and more questions?
