The reason MVC3 got an updated rerelease 6 months later was because of the 2011 earthquakes/tsunami in Japan. They had more DLC in the works, but after the natural disasters they went “Well shit. Uh, I guess we might as well release everything we managed to do in an updated version.” It’s not a great look even with context, but it wasn’t entirely their fault.

There were 8 more fighters planned in addition to the 12 in Ultimate. We lost out on Luke Cage, X, Chuck Greene, Franziska Von Karma, and Jon Tablain. I don't know who were the other Marvel characters that almost made it.
I think what Elliot is trying to say is that Jean Grey (remember, there's TWO Phoenix's) is made of glass, but doesn't fully become a glass cannon until she activates the Phoenix Force. Which you'd think would make her a horrible character, but because of the 3v3 system she actually thrives. There's less X-Men characters here likely because Marvel really wanted to roll-back usage of them due to FOX having the license for their movies, which Marvel was receiving pennies from. That's why they're nowhere to be found in Infinite despite being the start of the MVC games and the comics tried pushing the Inhumans. Also, X-Men fans have WAY MORE beef with the movies outside of leather and Rogue.
Honestly i get why, and im sure people have already pointed this out, but MVC3 has a modern team fighting game mechanic where the start of your combo does way more damage than if you let someone string a long combo. The longer the combo goes the lower the damage gets. So every time you end a combo, the damage values reset. Hence your first hit keeps doing crazy damage when the combos get interrupted
Regarding Tron - You can basically break down UMVC3’s character roster into four distinct camps: The Icons: The poster-boy Characters whose iconicity exceeds far beyond their own franchises. The Faces: Characters whose own franchises are either still popular or relevant or that will be soon, due to some upcoming projects that their parent company has down the pipe. They are selling you something, whether that product exists yet, or not. The faces in UMVC3 are: Albert Wesker (Resident Evil 5), Nathan Spencer (Bionic Commando (2009)), Rocket Raccoon and Thor (both MCU). and lastly: The Wild Cards. Think someone on the MVC team daring their colleague to design a fighter out of some unlikely or oddball character. Think: Phoenix Wright, Nemesis T-Type, M.O.D.O.K. or Shuma-Gorath.

To answer Matt's question on why Juggernaut isn't here, both he and Sentinel were on Marvel's blacklist of characters that they didn't want to see in the game. Capcom fought heavily for their returns however, and Marvel relented on a compromise. Either Sentinel or Juggernaut could be in the game, but not both. Capcom went with Sentinel. In general, you can sort of see the early stages of Marvel being really stingy with character inclusions in this game, as they blacklisted characters like Venom from returning, and Capcom had to fight tooth and nail to add characters like X-23 or to even bring Shuma-Gorath back as DLC. I know its recorded already and you guys are prolly onto your next project, but to explain the controls a bit: -The face buttons are Light, Medium, Heavy and Special, which essentially works as a launcher. Some characters have uses for the special button for specific variations of moves like Morrigan, but most just use it as a simple launcher. -Supers don’t have to be used by the trigger buttons. The way to activate them is by their usual input plus 2 face buttons. So Ryu’s Shinku Hadoken is Quarter Circle Forward and any combination of the two face buttons. The triggers are there if you wanna do a default super without the input. -X-Factor is all 4 face buttons and its timer and effectiveness is based on how many characters you have left on your team. The less characters alive, the stronger it becomes. -Voice language options are in the options menu on the main menu. They let you switch from Japanese (the default for most Capcom characters) and English. The Marvel cast can’t be swapped unfortunately. Sorry about becoming the Back Seat Gamer tm, but if y’all ever decide to revisit UMVC3 and give it another go, I hope this helps.
On the topic of the MCU's influence on this game, I remember before the release of Ultimate somebody interviewed a Capcom employee, probably Seth Killian, and asked why Rocket Raccoon was being included in the game. I remember him being a little coy about the character and saying something along the lines of "Marvel has plans for him". The Guardians of the Galaxy movie would be announced a year after UMVC3's release so it seems that Marvel was wanting to promote him. Nova was likely chosen for the same reason as the Nova Corps is a significant part of that film as well, although he character of Nove never appears (although it has been said that he appeared in an early draft of the film).
Evert character in the game has different health, characters like Hulk and Nemesis have a larger pool than Zero, Vergil, Phoenix and Akuma. The damage is also just really high in this game.

In the Wrong hands Johnny, Phoenix is a TERRIBLE character to choose, by design too. But in the Right hands, she is a literal MONSTER. The gimmick with her - from my many viewer hours in the past of watching U/MvC3 matches - is that she has the LOWEST health out of the ENTIRE roster, but it's on purpose. Because if you manage to save FIVE BARS at the bottom and she's Still alive, once she's downed, she then becomes Dark Phoenix, an absolute NIGHTMARE to casuals AND Pro players alike. She'll still have low health, but she becomes CRAZY strong; at that point a casual player can simply mash buttons to win, and a Pro player can do similar, or just spam projectiles or hang in the air until time out or rush people into a corner and wipe their team. It's obnoxious how good she becomes, and why most Pro players wished, for years, for her to be banned completely.
Well actually Elliot, you're half right. To automatically trigger Dark Phoenix, you need to get Jean beaten up so badly. The thing is... It's her Lvl 3 Hyper Combo.

IT'S MAHVEL, BABYYYYYYYYY!!! Also, allow me to bestow some UMVC3 knowledge upon you. For one, Phoenix has the lowest amount of health in the game. She has 400,000 HP where as other characters with low health clock in at around 750,000 HP like Rocket Raccoon, Akuma, and Zero. Two, Dark Phoenix is activated when Phoenix dies with 5 bars of meter. Three, Phoenix, even in her base form, is still one of the best characters in the game. It's just that Dark Phoenix is busted AF. Four, Nemesis is one of the worst characters in the game despite the fact that he can hit hard. He's slow, only has one good super, and his Level 3 is a command grab super that can be avoided by jumping on reaction. If you see the cinematic play, just jump. You'll dodge it every time. Five, X-Factor is entirely dependent on how many characters you have left. Your own health is not a factor for how strong it is. BTW, the boosts that X-Factor provides are the following: A damage boost, the ability to regenerate Red Health, and an overall increase to your movement speed and speed to your attacks. All of these buffs increase the less characters you have and the amount of time you're in X-Factor for will also increase when you have less characters. Six, when you combo two characters at the same time, it's called a Happy Birthday. If you combo all three at the same time, it's a Merry Christmas. Seven, you can change each individual voice on the Capcom side from English to Japanese and vice versa in the options menu. Eight, lowering the handicap lowers the amount of HP you have. More stars means more health, so keep it at 5 stars for longer matches.

When did they get expensive? I've been wanting to get a copy of the Vita port, a good ass game on the go, but a part of me feels like the Steam release makes that redundant. MVC3-ita doesn't even have Jill and Shuma Gorath
I used to play this game a lot in the ps vita and ps4, but when I came back to it in ps5 it was weird that you can't pick the control type and I think it defaults to Easy for X Factor and Super combos, I'm not sure if it was always like that for versus or if it was updated, but it messed up my combos a lot of times

Shady biz practices aside the gameplay and character selection is awesome I loved the new addition in Thor, Strange, Deadpool, Dante, Chris, Trish, Frank, Dormmamu, Zero, and later Ghost Rider, Nemesis, Rocket. Too bad Phoenix sucks but still probably the best of the series next to MVC2

Vergil RUNS THIS GAME. He is the best character in the entire game. He's fast, strong, has the easiest combos in the game, and works on any team as the last character. Zero May Cry (Zero, Dante, Vergil) is easliy the best team in the game considering how many mirror matches are played in tournament
Vergil leader of the lollipop guild.
This one brings back memories. It was the first one i purchased. I got it on PS3 and played it for a good while, i suck at it, still do, i got the PS4 port years later for a PS Stars Challenge... errr, i mean, to rekindle those memories, yeah
Were the physical copies of the PS4 and Xbone ports a limited release or something? When did they get expensive?
I've been wanting to get a copy of the Vita port, a good ass game on the go, but a part of me feels like the Steam release makes that redundant. MVC3-ita doesn't even have Jill and Shuma Gorath
So when you get to MvCi, are ya'll playing it on PC via the MvCi and Beyond Mod from Maximillian Dood, or are you saving that mod for a separate vid?
My go to team was Team Devil May Cry. Was really good with Dante
3:59 YOU DIDN'T SET CAPCOM CHARACTER VOICES TO ENGLISH
Aww, John coulda gone for the best alt costume for Zero where's basically X.
That was cool and nightmarish to look at... What if X woke up with all of Zero's combat moves and decided to be as aggresive as Zero?
3:56 Dang, Morrigan woke up and chose to sound like Himeko(Yeah, that's Rie Tanaka.).
Man they do NOT like the punisher
I don't see why. It's not a bad game
Avoiding it like the Plague 😔

Jeez Matt, spoken not only like a true American, but spoken with all the patience of the average viewer of fighting games LMAO
Ghost Rider, Wolverine and Hulk for me.
Ah yeah, my favorite MvC game. I love the voice acting, the cel-shaded visuals, the comic book aesthetic, and the more varied roster, which isn't Street Fighter and X-Men heavy. 'Tis a shame Capcom got so greedy that their reputation wouldn't be fully restored until the RE 2 remake.
I remember that era of Capcom. But didn't their reputation restore with RE7?
@thevenom2731 They released MvC Infinite soon afterwards, which had even more monetization. RE7 was considered a lucky shot back then.
Man look at Viewtiful Joe un picked. 😢 but on a serious note surprised he made it to this game since it’s been so long.
I hope that after you play Marvel vs Capcom infinite you can revisit it again with with the Marvel vs Capcom infinite & Beyond visual mod by Maximilian Dood.
MVCi is a fun game under all the bad development decisions from a license holder....it's Disney btw.
IT’S MAHVEL BABY!!!!! LET’S GOOOO!!!
ITS MAAARVELLL BABY ✨🎉 🤯
(Again and again)
Yeah, She-Hulk wasn't very good. Still better than Blade 3, Fant4stic, and Origins Wolverine, tho.
X-Men Origins is overhated.
YO YOU DEALIN WITH THE X FACTOR
That swiss cheese move they gave wolverine absolutely killed me using him in this.
Yeah, that was dumb. They also slowed him down, which is why I prefer Laura
Swiss Cheese isn't also particularly good by itself.
It's only better if you pair it with other things, like on a sandwich with various meats & ingredients.
@@Da_ComputerMonster more of a pepper jack guy myself lol 🌶️🌶️🌶️
@@esmooth919 Wolverine was pretty OP in Vanilla MVC3, hence the nerfs that came with Swiss Cheese. Even then, he's still overpowered.
Not a matter of whether he was overpowered or not to me, it just made him not fun to play. It's the only game he has that move too lol
and they didn't play modded UMVC3 and that is Clone Engine.
Are you ready for Round 2!
If you do MVC infinite play MVC infinite beyond it’s a improvement mod made by fighting games content creator Maximillian Dood it features balanced gameplay the infinity stones are not broken and better graphics
They're not going to do a mod for a Smackdown Sunday before the official product. Infinite Beyond will likely get a separate video once it's done.
Man you never make the button inputs for special attacks, just button mashing to win.
MvC3 mods go crazy by the way
You guys should play a naruto ultimate ninja storm game.
Woolie & Lythero
Yeah
You can turn that off guys lol 😂
Hold up they're not playing the mvc3 modded version
Why would they? The regular playerbase isn't going to play the modded MVC3 because not everyone has a high-end PC that can run it.
This outta be rich
"Ah She-Hulk, shame they never made a law show about her. That would've been nice to see."
MVC3 is the slowest version.
Of course the Shehulk show sucked. It was made for the modern audience.

Blade 1 and 2 are good and the Fantastic Four and Daredevil movies are fine enough. Id take them over modern MCU Garbage anyday.
Gotg 3, No Way Home, and D&W are better. I reject this revisionism for the old Fox movies.
@thevenom2731 No Way Home and Deadpool and Wolverine is nostalgia cash grab. Using the Sony and Fox movies to push there modern crap so try again
@@kingslayer2999No Way Home was more than the just nostalgia. It's been proven countless times. D&W redeemed the old fox movies. You try again. Hating new things doesn't make you cool.
She Hulk was a horrible show, a bad comedy is unwatchable
The Blade Trilogy I found enjoyable
Ugh...i see why i wasnt a fan of mvc3. Unbalanced, looks incredibly ugly (like seriously, the models look straight out of a psp game), and just plain dull to look at.
Imagine having bad taste
@@borttheattorney6012I know right. No psp games look as good as this. Also, "unbalanced" lmao.
@@borttheattorney6012 imagine getting salty over an opinion
Unbalanced.....my guy It's Mahvel. There's never been a balanced.
Also look ugly? You gotta be joking.
@@prinoftherngWell, opinions are like assholes. Some of them are full of shit.
