I think the reason it crashes is
a) it is only designed to be used in bursts, not continuous, thus it shuts itself off as a safety feature
b) lithium cell inside is undersized for the load and its protection circuit kicks in, shutting off the unit
c) The processor is improperly shielded and its memory gets corrupted by EMR, which watchdog picks up and resets the processor

Alex jones lol, YES - scarring your finger pads will _absolutely_ disfigure your prints - if you have any left at all. Fingerprints are actually quite delicate. There are a few skin disorders that prevent people from being able to use mobile phone fingerprint scanners for more than a few weeks or even days, so a burn... yeah. If you’re a masochist.

I just use a USB soldering iron for foot warts. And soldering. Worked fine, wart gone- couldn't walk for 2 days. Had a solder tip come loose last year, fell into my shoe. Smell of bacon. Bacon and cheese, good times.

My doctor won't do skin tags, or anything 'cosmetic'. I had one of those annoying warty moles that you'd catch - so I bought one of these and they actually work pretty well - not that painful even on the high setting and once you get the knack, the kind tag got zapped pretty quickly, and the mole thing was easy to burn away. They go red and a bit sore for a short period - maybe a day, then they heal and by three or four days, the skin is completely healed. The mole took three attempts to remove it down to flat skin level with no bump. As for hygiene you can use the sterile needles, but I just used the screw in tip and held it under the kettle steam for 30 secs or so. No infections, and apart from the soldering iron burning skin smell, I like the thing.
That's literally an electric scalpel. I work in medical equipment maintenance, and from how that thing works (high voltage and frequency coming out of a metal tip to burn/cut skin), it's pretty much the same thing going on here.

@Bendegúz Csóka , electric scalpel is a type of knife that do not cause bleeding. The electricity is irrelevant; it is simply a blade that cuts without bleeding. It's a type of precision, surgical, and specialist knife.

I'm pretty certain the needles are there to be used for electrolysis hair removal. (when using more accurate and relyable equipnebt than this) with a little technique and a lot of care the needle can be inserted down beside a hair strand into the follicle, which is then cauterised using high frequency pulses. When done correctly (by an expert) the follicle will be disabled while the skin around it remains healthy.
Especially useful to permanently remove thicker hairs on certain parts of the body...

I bought one of these brilliant well made instruments a few months ago to remove (burn off) a number of small red moles on my torso and it did the job.
(Red moles, or cherry angiomas, are common skin growths that can develop on most areas of your body. They're also known as senile angiomas or Campbell de Morgan spots. They're usually found on people aged 30 and older. The collection of small blood vessels inside a cherry angioma give them a reddish appearance)

It doesn't get hot to melt solder, the solder would just conduct the high voltage, high frequency signal to your fingers, and whatever semiconductor you tried soldering would fry like it just got zapped with static electricity.

I had a mole on my arm that I got removed (by a doctor) because it was right on the inside of my elbow and stuff would rub it all the time which was painful. For some reason they can be incredibly sensitive, so it's not always just "I don't like the look of it".

I got my burning skin experience (aged 12-13) when playing around with the high voltage of our colour TV with a not very well insulated screwdriver. Went directly through my thumb nail and tip of my finger, leaving a small black hole. Strange thing it didn't hurt (too much) but the smell still stays with me to this day.

It's a real thing. We got involved with an epilator that failed EMC due to having a massive air core running at 100s of kHz. It's the only instance I know of Trading Standards getting involved.
Our replacement was solid state and ran at a few MHz if memory serves. You have to get the frequency up there so it travels around your body not through it (Skin Effect). Above 1MHz there are different safety rules. The return path is the parasitic capacitance of the battery. In clinical settings Earth couples between the operator and the client. I can't remember the power levels but it might have been a few Watts.
We used to practice on teabags.
EDIT: Just checked the schematic and it was 3.2768MHz running a class B output stage run from 50V. Output via 22nF. There were a couple of transformers used only for isolation and voltage gain.
My identical unit runs at 280 kHz with the needle not touching anything, according to my spec an. 2nd harmonic about 6 dB down at 560 kHz.
I use mine to remove cherry angiomas, and it works quite well. The needle produces just a tiny spot of cauterization, without producing scarring. UT has a couple of videos where the technician touches the needle tip to the angioma only for an instant, then repeats.
If electromagnetic interference from the high voltage AC is crashing the controller, you should be able to solve that by putting a layer of polyimide tape over the circuitry for electrical insulation and then a grounded layer of aluminum tape/foil on top to shield it.
Clive, I believe there's a name for this type of procedure. I can't think of it now but I've had it done on some skin tags as far back as the 70's. I THINK this is the same type but a lot less powerful.
In the Doctors office, you can see a varied size spark jump to your skin, you don't feel any shock but just a very hot point where the needle is placed, basically vaporizing the wart, skin tag, etc. A very hot centralized spot. Quite effective and fast and not much pain IMO.

I had a wart on my nose that was very difficult to get rid of. I tried burning, freezing, carving applying garlic, duck tape, acid etc... This worked. After 2 treatments it was gone. It was extremely effective.
Looks like an electro-cautery that's used during surgery, although they don't usually burn quite so obviously.
BTW those needles are just a pack of acupuncture needles, probably because they come (supposedly) sterile and are cheap.

This definitely works on warts, I used a red hot knife to get rid of one on my finger. I looked up the treatment, one way to do it is by laser, and I thought, aha, the laser burns the skin and the virus in it, so why not just do it myself. Never came back again either.

My ex-business partner used to use his Arlec soldering iron (with a fresh tip) to remove warts. Wasn't a big problem except the roast pork smell.

If you have like red spots, cherry spots some people call them... cherry angiomas... that type of device actually does work quite well. They're actually very similar to what a dermatologist will use to remove a cherry spot in their office. They're definitely NOT for moles... but like I said, they work really well for cherry spots.

You'd likely burn the skin off the fingers holding the solder, and fry whatever semiconductor you're trying to solder.
This device seems to put out high-voltage at high frequencies, which would be conducted by the solder and, in contact with skin, burn it. Semiconductors aren't fans of high voltages, and putting this device in contact with them might have the same effect of static electricity.

I know for sure a soldering iron melts skin real well.... Note to self: Don't keep yourself up extremely late trying to finish off soldering a project. It isn't worth it when you end up grabbing the soldering iron in the middle of it instead of the handle with your bare hand.
Worst part was that it took a couple seconds to register so by then I already had it held in my hand & had to figure out where/how to put it down without just dropping it and possibly causing a fire.
Live & learn they say. At least I'm lucky the skin has all healed back fine since then but damn it was sure messed up & sore for weeks - couple months.

Thanks to your explanation I am now able to get the maximum power from mine. I was holding mine like a pen but there wasn't sufficient coupling. I now hold it in my fist, the arc is much stronger, and I am really able to fry those skin tags.

That actually works pretty well. It just destroys the targeted location, the body heals itself after that, just like after a burn. You can also heat up a needle pin red hot and use it to cauterise
You could make a taser out of this easily. Just add a cap in series with the primary of the output transformer and an SCR switch across cap and primary, and a timer or power supply that will break over the SCR.
Umm that needle looks suspiciously like a homemade tattoo needle... aka a guitar string unwound a little and sharpened.

Acupuncture needles. Somehow some acupuncturists use electro stimulation along with the acupuncture no idea how it works but I've had it done
It's basically a TENS machine hooked up to the acupuncture needles with alligator clips, if I'm not mistaken

Can this be useful to fix up 3D printed models, like in the corners or overhangs? The plastics used melt around 200-250°C, depends, we don't use higher temperature materials because that would rapidly degrade a Teflon liner in the hot-end.

Not sure it would. It works by resistive heating from a high frequency voltage signal. I'm not sure that the plastic would conduct in a way that makes that useful.
Oh so there's no heat generated in the tip, it's just on the skin? Oh well. No, certainly plastic is a few orders of magnitude less conductive than skin, even at high voltages. What voltage do we expect out of this thing anyway?

Hey Big Clive. Yeah, being it crashes is likely why its so cheap. I wonder if putting in a ‘decoupling’ capacitor across the microprocessor chip power leads would help prevent crashing. A 0.01uf ceramic up to even a 1uf polarized titanium or electrolytic cap might be needed. Let us know if you do that and if it fixes the problem.

You are right about the fact that you should have closed circuit when you doing that on someone. Usually you give the person treated to hold this metal tube that is connected to the device
Years ago in the US Navy I had a wart removed and the Corpsman came at me with a wand from a machine after numbing my finger and out flew the arc. He then peeled off the burnt flesh, burned some more and peeled repeat etc, then finally used it to cartarize it. Worked. What you had was just a dangerous mini version. Sad thing is you can order just about any full size medical version from India these days. In fact I have an ultrasound machine 1mhz physical therapy version from India that works quite well so I don’t have to wait for VA once a month to get 1 treatment for 1 out of several problem areas.
