I'm so sorry I just found this comment! "Kauhea" means actually terrible and "tosi" is a short version of "todella" that means really. We could say "Mulla on kauhea jano" or "Mulla on tosi kova jano" but not "Mulla on tosi jano" - that would be like saying "I have really thirst" - it needs an adjective because "jano" means "thirst". But we can say "Oon tosi janoinen" because "janoinen" is an adjective "thirsty".
