Man, what a day! Really want to fly fish NZ someday! And seriously big fish for such a small piece of water! Well done! I'm another one of the crazies that attempts to fly fish and film my adventures, so have a huge appreciation of the added difficulty :) Thanks for sharing and new sub here! dan
I love your channel, and it makes me want to come down there and try my luck. Especially after seeing that one of those last monsters you landed almost broke your rod. 😇
Thanks for all the videos. It's really helpful to go fishing with you and others to see what you're doing for success. You mentioned checking the flow levels. I'm from Auckland too, but haven't found a resource to track the Ngongotaha flow. Could you share? Thanks and keep up the great fishing!
I am very glad you find the videos useful. You can find the flow data here: envdata.boprc.govt.nz/Data/Map but just be aware their interface is not very easy to use so watch their instruction video first. Then figure out the best measurements to use. There is a river level and a flow value. There is also a colour system on the map that shows above or below average but it is confusing as red means low and green means high. Tight lines
Love the video! I know i can definitely relate and have had a few similar days where the fish won't stick. I was actually fishing the first carpark on opening day and found a net buried quite deeply by one of the pools, if you let me know a couple of details about the one you lost and they match up would love to return it you
That's pretty cool Matt. I wonder what the chances are that it's my net. The key details would be that its a cheapie knockoff of the mcleans weigh net but the weighing part broke so I taped underneath it so that it would stick. It ia a black net as well and the loop at the end of the net handle is broken which happend right before I lost it. Let me know if it's the one.
Howzit boet, I'm thinking your from SA,correct me if I'm wrong. Have just started watching your vids, very cool. I'm heading off to Rotorua this weekend, I'm new to NZ,from Cape Town and wanting to catch my 1st NZ trout on fly, was hoping you can point me in the right direction. How do I get to this river from Rotorua town? Baie dankie ou maat👍🏻😁
Howzit Craig. I am indeed from SA but have been here a long time. Welcome to NZ. In time you will be catching plenty of trout. Email me at crazyaboutflyfishing@outlook.com and I will give you some tips
This video explains the upper river access but this is still closed. ua-cam.com/video/hPwsaIbiVIY/v-deo.html the lower river access is in the township of Ngongotaha and still fishes well. Especially the pool below the bridge in Ngongotaha if you can get a spot there.
Your handling too hard sometimes you have to let them run. I'm a local and j fish it a bit in the season. And you are striking way to hard you ripped that small one out of the water

Thanks Dan. It was a great day out indeed. It certainly adds an extra dimension trying to film yourself. I'll be checking out your channel for sure.

Awesome that's so good to hear. Hopefully I will get some new videos made in the next couple of months. Hope you make it back. Tight lines

@@CrazyAboutFlyFishing thought it would definitely be a long shot, the one I found had no scale part
@@masterdeathandcomedy no worries. Hope you find the owner or it's a good new or backup net for you.

Hi, Do you usually go fishing alone? Have the opportunity to be fly fishing together, I'm in Auckland too, I'm learning fly fishing
I do mostly fish alone as I normally only get week days off to go fishing. In sometimes enjoy it that way but not always.
Hi Fox Jiang, I'm the beginner as well, maybe we can sort something out.
@@flytrout_nz ok, 🎣~

Thanks, I do know I am a bit tough on them at times. Will take not of that.
