Some awesome advice here. The point about getting back to feeling like "someone who trains" is important. Too many people leave it to long and stop, rather than just backing off and building back up again.
Interestingly 4 days ago with age 67 I run a marathon. 2 days after marathon I fehlt o.k. and energized again. Nothing hurts and I continued my running, cycling and swimming (in cold river) training. That shows, my marathon training was optImal this time and I believe that is the reason
Recently completed a marathon and best tip is defo do those activities that you ignored during prep...and even better if with others...back playing 5aside and its more a mental than a physical benefit 🤛
I think this should be after "a major life event" and not just an athletic endeavor. Was sick off and on for almost 2 months to come back to training it was a similar experience with giving the body time to recover and figure itself out again. A major takeaway is the need to find a "fun" outlet so it feels less "rise and grind", especially when you're trying to build back momentum.
some really great tips here! I've 100% screwed myself getting back to soon after big races, verry hard to not train at all mentally....side note where is that long sleeve shirt from lol
@@ferguscrawley95 I make the mistake of signing up for the another big race BEFORE you accomplish the first one lol but sometime do to timing and sign ups you have no choice
I ran my first Marathon on Sunnday (Bodensee 3 Länder Marathon), amazing experience, i am hungry for more, but right now i am recovering from two big bloodfilled blisters on my big toes, do you have anny advise? Keep up the good work, Big Love from Italy
@ferguscrawley95 love your content. I feel the one thing I missed this cycle is the strength training side of things. I just kinda ran, I'm new to it, so I prioritized running sessions. Would love to know your thoughts on starting a Strength program in this off season, as a follow on from this video. Love the suggestion of exploring different exercises, my thought is to start on the bike.
My guy drops this 24 hours after a brutally cold, rainy, hilly marathon. Perfect timing my friend

Just did my first half marathon and keen to get into more endurance events and work my way up to a full. I really appreciate the advice!
Great to hear, all the best!
First time I've watched something from Fergus. Definitely not the last - great piece!
I done the Loch Ness marathon as well. Good day out and great scenery. Pity I just came across your videos after the event. Subscribed 👍🏻
Thanks, Fergus. I wish I saw this video on October 8th. But it's never too late!
Very guilty of the downs post my first 100k 3 weeks ago. Great reminder to build back up. Thanks for the insight!
Glad it was helpful!

Idea for hybrid challenge : 200m sprint + max squat rep on a small weight
