Hi there, I've commented on your videos before, i have a DHLA 40 carb that I've had troubles with for a while but I noticed something a couple weeks ago that i stupidly never psid attention to before; when I look at the msnifold side mounting face of the carb, for each barrel there are 2 round lead plugs which are blocking where the factory drilled for the idle circuitry, I noticed that the surface of the lead plugs is actually about 0.5mm lower than the face of the carburettor.
Because I am using a soft-mount kit, it turns out that the sealing o-rings actually sit exactly over those 2 plugged holes on each barrel, so unless i had done the mounting nuts up really tight, the rubber of the o-rings was never compressing enough to sort of fill up the little gaps, but doing the nuts up with a soft mount kit really tight defeats the purpose of using the soft mount kit, to dampen the vibrations.
I've considered just using a paper gasket so that it would be entirely covered, but instead I have used some metal filler, jbweld and very carefully filled in those shallow pockets and then sanded it flat. It looks like the jbweld shrinks a little as it cures and the surface of the jb is still very slightly lower than the carb face, but i think it's worth a try. Hopefully this will solve what has obviously been a vacuum leak all along.
I read on some old forum post somewhere now tgat orher people have solved issues by dealing with those lead plugs. My carb was making a high pitched whistle when slightly opening the throttle.

@@carburist I test drove the car today and it has eliminated the high pitched whistling noise that was coming from those vacuum leaks but I am still having trouble with some lean spikes at part throttle. I might try going up to 62 idle jets from my current 60
