  • Pastor Colin Smith preached this sermon meekness/gentleness from Matthew 5:5 and James 3:13-18 on the Beatitudes at The Orchard EFC in suburban Chicago in 2012.
If you like the series, you'll enjoy the book the series inspired: Momentum: Pursuing God’s Blessings through the Beatitudes from Moody Publishers.
    Sermon Series Description:
The Beatitudes are not telling you how to become a Christian-they tell you what a true Christian looks like. Everyone wants to be blessed. We want to be blessed in life, blessed in death, and blessed in eternity. In the Beatitudes, the Son of God tells us about the life that is blessed and about the people who are blessed. But Jesus does more than just describe a blessed life-He gives us a way to actually pursue it.
"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth." Matthew 5:5
    (James 3:13-18 ESV)
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15 Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.

I’ve prayed for humility and recently came to understand what meekness is and that I absolutely need it, and very shortly after was blessed to come across this video. I can’t express how thankful I am for this message but with all my heart, thank you.

when I look in the mirror I do not see anything to be proud of..only a destructive malice to be feared..thankfully I now see past my delusional pride and recognize the abomination beneath the skin, a real monster who desperately needs to submit to meekness, before it's too late..when I look at myself I see a dying hated underdog mongrel who needs love to live honorably ..I found that gentle but powerful calming love and honor in the words of the lamb..which is the only True love I've recieved so far😕..meekness is good..everything else is bull$hit competition continually.
meekness is honoring the extrordinary gift of life continually. the question I ask is: can a beast become meek?

The Greek word that was translated into meek is "praus" which means "strength under control." Hence, the meek are strong but refrain from physically imposing their will on others. In Psalm 37 King David makes it absolutely clear that the inheritors of the Earth are the righteous who David refers to as the meek and the righteous interchangeably. The that same Psalm David also points out how, "the law of their [referring to the righteous] God is written in their hearts; their steps do not slip." This means that the righteous, and the meek, follow the inner guidance that emerges from the Holy Spirit that resides in their hearts. Conversely, what David calls the wicked, which are the sinners, ignore their conscience which is the Holy Spirit's admonitions that emerge from within their hearts.
Going back to Jesus' beatitudes, the first one is, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs will be the kingdom of Heaven." The "poor in spirit" are the wicked who have turned away from the Holy Spirit's inner guidance making them poor in spirit. These people are sinners who fail to obey the law of their inner God. Consequently they go to heaven. This is also clarified in Psalm 37 when David writes, "the wicked will be removed, like blades of grass in a brush fire they will be gone." Meanwhile the meek, aka the righteous inherit the Earth.
This removal of the sinners and complementary inheritance of the Earth by the righteous takes place at the appointed time that marks the beginning of the final era of love that will commence on Earth once the sinners are removed to Heaven. Their absence will transform the Earth into the New Earth, a world of abundant peace and prosperity. One where there will no longer be death, nor tears, and God will abide with them in their hearts!
The misunderstanding that has grown to epic proportions is how people think going to heaven is the ultimate destination when it's actually a place that has been made ready to receive all the sinners. This, when the rapture occurs the New Earth will be free of the greed and pestilence that has grown to engulf the Old Earth by people who follow their ego's desires rather than the desires of the Holy Spirit who resides in everyone's hearts.

I got 10 strategies fer meekness too bro:
    1:honor Truth/abandon ignorance
    2:honor life/abandon death
    3:overcome $in/abandon hate
    4:In anger do not sin
5: do unto others as you will have done unto you.
    6: don't per$ecute/abandon hypocri$y
    7: unite and abandon divi$ion$
8:honor 10 commandments through prevention/stuctured everpresent good will reinforcement.
10: do what jesus said..love yer enemy..ye might find yer enemy a tad angry in this environment (bad tree)..meekness is the good will reinforcement that'll diffuse & minimize our righteous anger..with righteousness..duh..then there won't be as much anger & drama..because at the end of the day our enemy is a victim of apo$tacy who's been fucked over so many times that something rightfully must give.
    ok more than 10!
    11: there have been
corruption$ in$talled in the Bible over time so stick with what christ said and did and take the rest as a lesson in the contrast and effort$ of corruption..wtf is in the Bible worth killing and dying over? if there's a few errors should we abandon the whole thing? lucifer would love that..should we go to war over adam & eves or liliths missing belly buttons? grow up..there are
incon$i$tencie$ in parts that have been fucked with, true but the meek are still blessed and that allways holds true because they will overcome the pettine$$ of $quabbling rodent$ who cant read between the lines because they ain't fit to interpret sfa due to their environmentally impo$ed ignorance leaving them hardened..hateful unbeliever$ who would rather abandon hope than help fill in the blank$ &
    mi$take$ with love and honor..
inco$i$tency is a con$equence of doing time in hell, without love. if jesus said love yer enemy..just do it..if some jew said the opposite..ignore it..you're not stupid are ye? hate is hate..love is love..overcome yer natural tendency to be a hateful,
unin$pired idiot and you'll see and understand the Truth, the meek will inherit the earth, and not be retarded beast$
who know not what they do😐

I'm sorry for my angst but when I get hate I get angry..when I get loved I calm down..I must be the enemy who needs to be abandoned too the cracks of oblivion because I'm certianly not worthy of love..just Love yer enemy ok ffs..don't be ahole$ forever..be meek..love one another does not mean abandon one another because something evil caused anger..overcome the evil and then the anger will dissipate.
    duh😲
