It was clear to me that Jeff Buckley had been one of the few Great Ones, a one-in-a-billion talent, a true voice of his generation, and at thirty, he had hardly begun. Whatever is left behind in the passing of a rare talent, so much is always lost."

Not many people know that Jeff was a RUSH fan himself. Back in 1982, I had the opportunity to play with Jeff and we covered several RUSH tunes in his garage and I still have those recordings tucked away. He was in high school at the time.

@Bradley Fletcher Thanks for commenting. I actually shared an excerpt of Mahre Beckham playing The Spirit of Radio (see the video description), as shown in the BBC documentary, Everybody Here Wants You.
Would you be willing to speak with me in private regarding the aforementioned recordings? Please let me know if we can chat via email, social media, etc.

@@MojoPin1983 Jeff had no problem covering Rush. He had covered several RUSH tunes with Paul Derech and I at about the time he was in Mahre Buckham. Since he already had a band at the time, we only rehearsed this material for fun. Paul went to school with Jeff and brought me in to play with Jeff because I already knew several RUSH songs on bass. Paul recorded these sessions and I was not thrilled at the time because I was not interested in hearing our mistakes but I am thankful he did because I don't have any photos with Jeff. Paul and I delivered to Mary Guibert a copy of this material when we were invited to see the release of the Mystery White Boy DVD at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. Mary remembered the times we played at her house and remarked that I was the one who used to rattle the dishes off of her wall.

@@imAsh21 Ashton, That is a question that could take a while to explain. I can tell you the reason I liked Jeff at the time is that he was very talented and could play anything he heard first time out. He was also very intelligent and intellectual. He had a way with words and he had strong opinions. He was quick witted and had a very funny sense of humor. He, at that time had not found his voice and was a guitar player and took his guitar everywhere. I did not imagine his as a singer but I did think he was destined to be a studio musician. Not bad for a 15-16 year old.

    Abrazo Mojo!
