Toby carvery
The second place was better
Stonehouse is better - I've been to both. Toby meat is lower quality in my experience, but then that might just be my local one.
£11.95 at Toby? That sounds like really pretty good value considering it was unlimited veg, gravy and Yorkshire pudding and you had some tea....am curious to see how number two goes...
...hmmm I don't like thick stodgy gravy, thinner gravy is the way to go! For the extra 48p I'd go for the second one!!
I would have eaten both, however I would have liked the meat option to have included. lamb
Honestly a British Sunday roast is the finest plate of food on the planet.
😂😂😂
I agree,up here in Scotland we also have traditional mince n tatties. Total feel good food,Sunday roast is the pinnacle
Best thing about a Sunday is a Sunday roast
Pfft. 🫣😊
100%
I've skipped it today but the wife and I are off tomorrow so I'll be cooking a Monday-Sunday dinner 😂.
Bought myself a joint of sirloin beef with a lovely fat cap on it from the local butchers, can't wait.
Brilliant vlog as ever. I reckon you've the 23rd best channel on UA-cam. Loving your work......keep up the good work. Excellent. Substantialy salivating now 🙂
Thanks 👍
Oh my days !!! This has made me so hungry !!! Can’t choose between them, they both looked yummy !!!!!
They were both great meals, I enjoyed them both
建物も素敵✨
盛り付け方も丁寧😊

I'd probably go with the Toby. I've not had the carvery at a Stonehouse pub, but the all-you-can-eat breakfast is excellent during the week. At weekends, like similar venues, it's full of semi feral brats
Stonehouse cheap budget end, both M&B Stonehouse very cheap place stick to Toby
Never been to a Toby Carvery in my life. It looked delish! The sliced potatoes are usually called Scalloped Potatoes (if they are in a cream sauce). They can be baked in a little stock and would be just sliced potatoes.
Toby Carvery really isnt delish. Very average indeed and lacking in taste
@@Nolimitss6it looks very delicious though? So all style no substance?
Finally! A carvery video! Awesome 👏🏻
Sunday Roast is Gorgeous and Beautiful tasty food ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It's a good lesson that if I ever go to a Carvery to stick to Roast Beef and get lots of it! But both dinners would go down very well. 😋
They were both good meals
First time viewer of your channel and subbed on the strength of this, two honest reviews with some nice looking food. There isn't a Toby near me but there is a Stonehouse so I may have to give that a go, great video, see you in the next one ✌️
Thanks and welcome
So hear I am watching this charming chap eat one of the foods I miss the most since leaving the UK 23 years ago, nice video but please ignore the sobbing sounds in the background!!!
I feel the same when i see a Sunday dinner miss it so much. Live in germany but still crave my english food 😢
@@saschaborchers9337 And when you make it in your country of residence, just does not feel quite the same
@@saschaborchers9337at least it’s not a long journey for you Germany to the UK..for those of us in the USA and Canada it’s a long journey going back home 😢 10 hour flight for me
Very close call this one - i'd happily go for either. To be fair to Toby they do a large option too for about the same price.
You can't beat Toby carvery in my opinion , I sometimes get a takeaway carvery and I've managed to get 3 good meals out of it, great on a budget for £7.99 in the week, and also if you ask for a turkey carcass they give it to you with lots of meat for soups. 🍗👍
I tried to get a takeaway Toby, but my local Toby doesn't provide that service. Yet, according to the website. So I had a Beefeater meal instead. And won't try Toby ever again.
Hi EIE, both carveries looked visually very nice, but reading some the reviews sounds Stonehouse where I've never been, really due to not located on any travels or my locality are not the favoured choices. However have been to Toby's and never been disappointed, carveries or other options. I guess which branches prove better quality is due the level of chefs and kitchen staff within such establishments. So think I'll stick with Toby's but agree turkey is often dry in many these eateries, overcooked and reheated no doubt. always need lashings gravy which Toby's don't disappoint with. Another enjoyable video.
Thanks
Great vid, we have a carvery near me. Tobys, I won't go to carverys now after the pandemic, but both locations looks great
Why? What did the pandemic do to the carvery?
You seem to be picking places local to me recently, are you local to LS15? Maybe check out The Devon Pub in Crossgates. Love watching the videos, I’d love to see you talk on camera whilst you are eating the meals at the time.
I may try a few videos like that
Both Toby and Stonehouse restaurants are owned by Mitchells and Butlers, the later from a carvery point of view seen potentially as the cheaper brand. You went large in one for the same price as ordinary in the other. The meat was also better and the gravy spoke for itself, though I've never experienced such thin gravy in either chain. Beware though, prices vary in most places - even say in different Toby restaurants in same town, just like Wetherspoons. Overall though, both carveries good in their own way.
both great value
They both looked absolutely delicious, but the first one won it for me,it just stood out as the best, cheers for another great food review. 👍👍👍💯💥
They were both great
Both looked fantastic. These places should serve chicken instead of turkey which is just a big tough chicken
I think I would prefer chicken
Great video my friend! As a visual I thought Toby looked better. That’s made me want a carvery!! 😂…. Smithy
Go for it!
That second combo bite was hilarious 😂😂
Looks bloody marvelous!
I liked your comparison of the two places. My go to place is a Toby. They do have different sauces, horseradish, cranberry etc. I would like to try a Stonehouse though, it looked good.
I must have missed the sauces
I've eaten at several Stonehouse carveries, and I've never had watery gravy like that. It's usually as thick as double cream. My vote is for Stonehouse, as you can get a similarly portioned meal for 3/4 of the price of the Toby meal, and during the week you can even order a small carvery for half the price.
Stonehouse cheap budget place stick to Toby
Toby for me mate and thanks for another great video 🎉🎉
The gravy just gave it to Toby
Last time I went to a Toby they had Mac and cheese, did they not have this when you were there?
They did not, I got a sample of every thing they had but that wasn't there
That’s unfortunate, it was really nice!
I'd like you to do Brewers Fayre v Chef & Brewer for Sunday roasts. That would be a great head to head.
Both looked great to me and amazing value. Only a few pounds more than the Morrisons roast. Great research by you.
Toby the clear winner and YES, Toby do have all the sauces that the other place had as I've been to my local Toby very recently for a carvery.
Hello, EIE
Both meals looked delicious, and good value for money. For me, it has to be Toby Carvery. The choices of gravy, the meat looked good, and the selection of potatoes made. Thank you for a great vlog 😊😊😊
The gravy was a lot better at Toby for sure
First one definitely the toby carvery looked really delicious so much nicer
The gravy really made the difference
The Toby looked better for me and really amazing value, these guys have perfected the carvery, you can see the work and attention to detail delivering value, and if you stick to the menu and have no drinks or bolt ons you have an amazing meal.
Its great value for the food
As soon as you poured the watery gravy on on the second one I was ready to comment... "Toby wins". I thought I'd watch it all, turns out you felt the same way. Gravy makes a massive difference. This inspired a ham and colmans mustard sandwich!
I remember.long time ago with my work qe always went to a certain hotel as they had the cavery and was delicious..our Christmas lunch
I think it's impossible to beat Toby tbf, but the other competitors still do a good job.
Its the most popular for sure
The Stonehouse building 👌 Also Stonehouse Red Tractor approved meat. So Stonehouse all day, everyday.
Love Toby carvery. The gammon is usually delicious but the beef is definitely the best. Old fashioned flavour like when we were young. The Tobys I have visited had all the sauce choices.
Delicious food❤️👍
It was!
Love This Channel 😀
For me Toby had it won even before I seen the second place. However, I’m a glutton! All the extra meet won me over along with cream leaks which I adore. I do get your point about the gravy though. A good thick gravy is better. I know you went large for the extra meats but I’d love to know how much their standard carvery is?
I think it was around £8
Toby carvery is so so good and you can't beat a good Sunday dinner 😋 as well
And you can go back for more too, even though just for the veg
Did you have them back to back.?😀Yep they do side sauces at Toby. There both owned by the same company anyway.
My Toby has the sauces with the gravy. I always go whenever they have an offer as I am a skinflint
was the first one Queens arms ?
Toby's looks so much better. I guess it depends on the location. That one you're at looks spot on.
It is a good one
If u haven't already u should try the haddock and chips from harvester it is very tasty and only 14.99 😋
I haven't tried it, I will have to give it a go
£14.99!! I hope that's for 2 and they spoon feed it 🤣
Same owners here in M&B. Same suppliers and mash etc all done to the exact same spec, so any quality difference is lilely down to management.
Toby is the more premium carvery option though, so I suspect that's why you get better things like beef dripping roast potatoes and more sides. If they were around the same price then I bet the Stonehouse one was in a more affluent area.
Personally I think the Toby one looked much better though.
Apparently, there's a place in York called Forest, which does really good steaks. Maybe do a video there and see what you think.
Toby, excellent value for money, breakfasts too
They are great for value I agree
you get the choice of sources at all the Toby Carvery I have visited.
Toby Carvery is served with various gravies also.
I have not been to any other carveries but Toby is great value
Hi there, the Cauliflower is in a creamy, cheesy sauce - the dish is called Cauliflower Cheese.
I like it
You must have missed the sauces at the Toby as they certainly have them, usually next to the gravy
I didn't see them anywhere, i must have missed them
Tough, they both looked Delish👍
It was a close one
works of art yummy
Thats the best toby ive saw when iv been in its all dry
I got there just as they started serving the carvery so it would have been fresh
I’m deffo going to Toby’s next Sunday… they should give you some commission 🤑😂
I know lol
Remember to book at Toby's for a Sunday it's their busiest day and they are about a fiver more expensive
They both looked really good, but the Toby by us isnt up to that standard at all. Thanks for another great video!
They both looked nice, I know what Toby is like and it's very tasty and I can't choose!! So I will stick with the Toby but I think I would have the others puds!!
My family and I occasionally have a Stonehouse cavery and the gravy has never been as thin as what it was on this vid. Its usually the same consistency as the Toby one. Also, my dad gets the normal size cavery and asks for an extra Yorkie and he gets it. He says you can have two. I won't ask tho lol
You do get a sauce station at Toby’s,at least you do at my local one
Av jus watched this....... Drooling into me socks...... Damn, it's not even Sunday lol
The Toby takes it for me but I’m not one for going for a carvery - I make a Sunday roast every week and I’m a fuss pot.
Homemade is always best
Those Yorkshire pudding you had at the second place are frozen ones
Either are pretty damn good value in this day and age...
Toby or not Toby , think I k ow the answer !
Toby
Do they give U the Yorkie or can U take your own
You are living my dream life 😂
I've always been a fan of Toby but was disappointed last two times, first visit the veg was nearly cold and the French beans under cooked, second time the choice of veg was poor with no runner beans, sprouts or Broccoli. The meat has always been spot on along with the gravy and spuds.
You have to get cauliflower cheese on a carvery besides the beef and roasters that’s the best bit … the second one looked the best
Why did you not have any of the sauces at the Toby Carvery. You only needed to look or ask a member of staff ?
Both looked good. Prices were reasonable.
Leek in sauce looked good as did the YPs and sausage. Visually the second is better but missing the thicker gravy. Quite a few + and - points for each. Toby's was a bit cheaper if budget is a factor.
Both Chains belong to Mitchells & Butlers restaurants group.
I did not know that
What does Mitchell and Butlers own?
Its branded restaurants and bars include All Bar One, Miller & Carter, Nicholson's, Toby Carvery, Harvester, Browns Restaurants, Vintage Inns, Ember Inns, Son of Steak, Stonehouse Pizza & Grill, Crown Carveries, O'Neill's, Premium Country Pubs, and Sizzling Pubs. The company also owns the ALEX brand based in Germany.
They both looked delicious Toby do the sides mint sauce etc you missed them but Toby just a little eater with the thicker gravy
The thicker gravy did make a difference
I'm a Brit that lives abroad. I just don't get the cup of tea with food. Of course i used to do it. But it seems completely weird to me now. Have a glass of water.
Its cold here lol, you need a warm drink to warm up, if I were abroad I think I would probably have a cold drink
Possibly Chinese heritage?
Or a pint of beer 🍺
Yep, i've eaten at them both and would have to go with Toby's. 4 meats as apposed to 3 with Stonehouse. Thick gravy, not thin. Maybe Stonehouse should list it as 'jus', the posh name for watery gravy.
Hey buddy can check out who's got the best bogs
Toby carvery or weatherspoons
So these two brands aren't rival pubs they are both owned by Mitchell and Butler so one pub group owns both brands they also own many other pub brands including Miller and Carter ember inns Orleans BBQ house harvester and many many more
as with most roast dinners, they are better than the sum of the parts.
Combo bites!
You do get sauces at Toby.
I must have missed them, I didn't see them
Toby Carvery: better Yorkshire puddings, better selection and better value. However the gravy is actually made properly at the other place. Thick gravy usually means gravy powder or granules. Gravy is supposed to be thin, made from meat and veg juices.
Stonehouse: Better 'real' gravy but that is about it. Although i liked the look of the creamy leek you had there and the sausage was a bonus. Why were they using frozen yorkshire puddings here?
Can't beat a Toby roast dinner mmmm enhoy mate
Both carveries looked decent for about £12! Nice nourishing meal! My question is? Why not put the veggies & other accomplices on a separate plate. This would give you a full plate of the meats😅😅
VFM food and its pretty good also. Hence why the places are very popular..
We have a carvery at Ruislip Lido, not bad, but they just never make the pork crackling correctly, but then Toby, in the south, don't succeed at that either. To get decent crackling you must go up country to, at least, Birmingham. And, up there, they make proper roast potatoes, unlike the southerners.
An average pub Sunday roast in London is around £17.
I will have to come down to London some time to try them
The Toby carvery unfortunately doesnt serve you full slices of meat normally like you had. They normally give you shavings of meat which is much smaller. I would go with stonehouse if you can find one.
Toby carvery is good, tbh most of the pub carveries are very much the same but with some slight differences in price per person. I always go for the beef & Turkey. I also prefer the thicker gravy. Im sure Toby had the sauces but maybe they were out that day. Not keen on the roasties at Stonehouse, I dont like mine almost black, light with really crispy edges are my favorite roasties, it does depend on the potatoes used.
As a food reviewer..how come you don't know they was dauphinois potatoes..and cauliflower cheese...?
Didn’t know they were is the correct english.
@@septembervirgo3723I'm not English...🤣
I suppose you can review food and not know everything. You learn as you go!
Was about to unfollow and block you when I thought you weren’t going to put any gravy on 😂 Both meals look amazing!!
You have to have gravy!
@@everydayimeating3407 Gravy can make or break a meal 🥘
My lord that Turkey at the barnbow looked like it had been roasted 3 times. Dryer than Ghandi Birkenstocks.
I’ll go Toby .
For the reasons, you said ,
Nicer meats.
🍗🕶️🥩
✌🏻🧑🏻🦱✌🏻
How do carveries keep meat from drying out as it sits there? All that waste adds up.
It's difficult to keep meat warm and rested underneath the heat lamps and not dry it out!
One place I worked at used to baste with watered down gravy or stock then cover with foil. But it's not easy to get the balance right and to be fair they do the best they can.
@@tdr2512 I am thinking they should keep meats submerged in some stock or sauce in special container. The top cover can be the carving board. They open cover, pull out meat, close, cut meat, put back inside, and cover. The top cover/board can have holes so dripping liquid go back down.
The biggest problem with Carvery is if they leave the vegetables without stirring. They burn and release a very unpleasant chemical that tastes vile.
Mash ‼️‼️😱 roast spuds only . I like Toby but it’s always a bit luke warm , Gammon is my favourite there . The prices have shot up though 😮 , never been to the other place .
Toby for me
You can get a ‘King Size’ at Toby, but I feel they can still be a bit stingey with the meat portion haha.
It's called cauliflower cheese mate
It tasted great
